Having the curtains closed during the day amounts to sensory deprivation. It’s unpleasant but needs must and it works

Exactly – if this was the daily shape of things to come I’d say there’s no future, but if it’s something I simply have to do a handful of times a year the “rest of me natural” I can cope alright.

It’s SIGNIFICANTLY cooler – Drone: he knew!

Saw people recommending shutting doors, windows and curtains, so shut the patio doors and curtains in the afternoon and the temperature got hotter. Opened it up again and it was noticeably less hot.

My bungalow faces (pretty much) East, so the Lounge only gets full sun in the early morning.
Does whether shutting up is best depend on the aspect of a building?

    Is 40.2 a coincidence?

Just happens to be where hot engines are at Heathrow.
Northolt os also often the hottest spot, where thetre is also an airport.

I went snooker last night beat blind Dave 3-0 with a break of 19 in the second frame.
Anyway got home with the downstairs windows being closed all day. Opened them to a bit of cool air which was pleasant.
Went up stairs for bed and the windows had been left open for the past 4 years and it was like an oven up there

Temp has very nearly hit 100F on my thermometer. May not be accurate but in the same place as yesterday where it hit 93 so about 4C hotter. It has become really windy here so when you walk out it’s like opening the fan oven door.

Regarding GT’s dilemma. This is a little like my bedroom. Sun is shining through just about first thing so is heating. I closed the windows fairly early today as the temp was rising but now it feels hotter than yesterday. Other problem is I now have a lovely breeze coming through the house but temp is still rising.

I would say if the temp is hotter outside than in then you close all doors, windows and curtains.

Point is just outside the door is shade. So the temperature right by the doors is not as hot.

My outdoor thermometer, which is tucked away in a shady corner, is currently showing 36 Celsius.

There’s a bit of a breeze in the garden so, disappointingly, it isn’t hot enough for me.

    Ging

Heathrow nearly always reports same as Kew Gardens. It’s just the area. Where I live

Been at oval today for cricket. I’m pretty resilient to hot weather and darkish skin too but left at 3. Enough. This is strongest I’ve known in uk by a margin but there were still some sitting in the full sun all day

I’m convinced it’s gone up a notch since those Heathrow readings

Now the village of Conningsby joins Heathrow on 40.2.
    Very apt.
Conning sby also has an RAF Airport right by the village.

Doesn’t matter. Temp in the house here is about 32 but outside about 36 (in the shade) so really I should have the doors/windows shut. It feels cooler because of the breeze coming through the house but the temp is rising because hotter air is entering.

No ging. It’s because these are locations where they take accurate readings

As said. Kew is normally the hottest in uk

It’s reached 38C in York, which is notable as it’s 100F in old money

Just popped out to witness, for the first time but I rather doubt the last time, what 100F feels like. Stifling but the decent breeze mitigates slightly though a Homer aptly puts it: does resemble the opening of a fan oven door

39C quite widely through central England

These are genuinely dangerous temperatures as they’re above body core temperature of 37.4C

My theory is now to get the house to above outside temp and leave doors/windows open. Then hopefully when I go to bed it will have cooled down and therefore feel cooler. Yesterday seemed to be at it hottest in the house at bedtime.

Draw a line from and directly down the runway and continue it eastwards, Clive.

    You come to… Kew Gardens.

I have no doubt the temperatures are “accurate”, just that they are bumped up by hot engines.

I did put my flannel, pillow case and a sheet in the freezer and took them to bed.

    Lovely.
