You’ve left it later than Greville Starkey on Dancing Brave for that, Nathan.

Dropped one degree to 30 – I believe the heat is stored in the walls – windows wide open but little let up !

Managed about 3.5 hours last night. All windows and doors now open. I can feel a slight breeze which is pleasant. Unlike yesterday morning it is fairly clear so the sun will soon be blazing away. I think we’re in for a tough one the next 24 hours.

Temperature outside here (sunny West Hertfordshire) is already 26C, going to be record breaking temperatures reached this afternoon for sure. Local weather forecasters are promising rain and thunderstorms later today, hope they are right!

It’s not often that I agree with the rightwing media but this hysteria over the hot weather is ridiculous.

They are, of course, wrong to minimise the risks of climate change, which is the single biggest problem facing mankind, but the short-term meltdown over two days of sunshine is completely over the top.

A fitful night’s sleep and crawled out of the pit around 5.00am to open all windows. A most pleasant 21C outside and 23C inside so I will endeavour to maintain the latter while the former climbs to who knows what…

    Complete change of tactics today.

Gone are the open curtains, windows and French windows – Chez Chezza is in winter night mode in sizzling summer daytime in a bid to avoid the kind of indoor heat of yesterday.

Yes, I’ve adopted the Drone Strategy.

It’s early doors, only 9.06am, and I’ve always got the option to change tack later on – it’s good to have a Plan B….

Yesterday, the Met Office was spot-on with forecast maxima of 37-38C in the South-East and East Anglia, whilst the BBC who get their forecasts from the pan-European outfit Meteo Group overplayed it a touch with 39-40C

Today the Met Office are forecasting a maximum of 40C in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands; the BBC 41C as far north as Yorkshire, and there was even a 42C graphic on their forecast last night

It remains to be seen who’s correct but I do wonder if the Beeb are guilty of a bit of theatrical exaggeration to drive home what they see as their remit to ‘warn’ the public

I think the BBC err on the side of caution, as they’d rather be too cautious than too complacent over a potentially deadly subject.

Some say they’re sensationalising it – if anyone wants real sensationalism take a look at the red top tabloid front pages where forecasts of up to 43 are on display.

“the red top tabloid front pages where forecasts of up to 43 are on display.”

Are they forecasting the maximum IQ of their readership?

Yes drone and that’s not what forecasts are for of course. Completely nuts that anyone should think otherwise

Their new forecasting is pretty poor frankly. As a cricket goer I feel it more than most. Metoffice is undoubtably better

Emley Moor min temp at just under 26C last night. This is just a few miles from where I live. Think it was a little cooler here though.

Now 33 degrees here in Hampshire but under a drastic, draconian, Dronesque policy, I’m relatively cool – even if the screen is the only thing lighting the darkened room!

Rain in the westcountry on and off over the last hour. Not enough to fill my just emptied water butt though so more please.

36 degrees here in Hampshire, but tbh the closed curtains/windows ploy (though not a lifestyle I’d relish as a permanent development) is definitely keeping the heat at bay chez Chezza.

It’s a bit of a watershed moment for the UK, this 40-degree barrier being breached.

Raining here on the edge of the Mendips.

    Well, a few spots.
