“including the French window, and got just the briefest light breeze”

Said on the RP website that opening the French Window is officially heavy breeze, light breeze in places

“I can’t help feeling a lot more people will die of the cold in the winter thanks to our insane government, which gives billions in tax breaks and bailouts to its rich mates but leaves the poorest and most vulnerable in society unable to heat their homes.”

    FIFY.

I am not denying that is part of the problem. But if we are seriously going to provide all our energy by wind and solar power – which I assume is what your party would prefer – that is crazy pipedream.

The inevitable consequence of Net Zero (which all the parties support) is far lower standards of living. While China continues to ignore it and build coal based power stations to meet its energy needs. They must be laughing themselves silly.

BBC did say could die. Hopefully people have listened to the warnings and the advice and hopefully not only lives will have been saved but also people will not become ill and have to use the already under strain NHS. Again people are saying this is scaremongering and it may be but if it stops the health service been inundated then job done for me.

I was out this morning for a couple of hours when bearable but only lasted two 15 minute bursts this afternoon. Reminded of my two weeks in Florida 30 years ago, the sun goes behind a cloud and you think it’s like heaven.

By my thermometer hit 34C or 93F in the shade, cooled down to 90 and currently 92. Getting to sleep should be fun tonight.

Please explain why renewables are, in your opinion, a “crazy pipedream”. The technology is there; it’s the political will which isn’t, due to the fossil fuel industry’s continued “lobbying”.

And, whilst I accept that China and others are not helping things, does that mean that we do nothing?

    Brilliant.

Btw, as usual the scaremongering Mail weren’t messing about – it was “WOULD die” all the way with them.

Not sure if I come under the ‘mad dog’ category but some may disagree but I actually like the sun and have been up the local to talk to the ducks.
Charlie has his plants …. I have my ducks!
Temp has been 36′ for a while now and can’t say any ill effects have been noted.
We have sun during the summer and the BBC goes hysterical,
lol … it’s referendum night all over again!
    good luck to all

Things did warm up in the south west although ‘heatwave’ is probably pushing it.

Certainly has warmed the sea nicely though. I’m just back from a refreshing dip in the English Channel. I don’t do cold water and found it very pleasant. It’s not exactly warm but it’s not cold.

Good to see Michael Fish get a mention, met him once, nice bloke.

Back in 76 the was advice to keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of beer (I kid you not) and eat lots of crisps to replace lost salt. Check out My5 on the subject.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

Yes I saw this prog a couple of weeks back on C5. 1976 highest temp was “only” 32C in Yorkshire so a few degrees short of today’s 37C in Bramham (a Yorkshire record) but it was the longevity of heat and dryness that stood out in that year. Tomorrow some spots may hit 41C.

Dropped to a welcome 20C outside but 25C inside, so all curtains and windows opened. Might attempt a sweaty kip around midnight
