Well, given that I didn’t back my old cliff horses Mohaayad and Del Arca yesterday I made a point of backing Custard the Dragon today. I’ve just remembered that I didn’t back Brian the Snail when he won the other day either. I’m down to £4 in my account now so am getting a bit desperate!
October 26, 2020 at 18:02 #1507455Ran well last week Moe, so best of luck.
October 26, 2020 at 18:03 #1507456Thanks Jack, really enjoyed that one.
October 26, 2020 at 19:53 #1507466…even Custard lets me down….
October 28, 2020 at 23:46 #1507614If there are any shares going in Euchen Glen,I will let you know.
Tremendous start by the looks of it,with the good stuff to come.
I will be watching those Ante-Post numbers closely.
VWP ,best of luck for the NH season.
October 29, 2020 at 00:33 #1507620Good to see you made it mate. A share in Euchen would be something else, what a horse he’s been. November Handicap is the plan next.
Yeah, comfortably my best ever start to a season, it’s been unreal, just got to keep it going now.
Big Races will be coming thick and fast now, and controlling the Antepost bets will help…………but there will be a few no doubt, to add to the following list.
October 31, 2020 at 00:56 #1507903Always love Charlie Hall Day, great days racing.
Ascot
Unusually for this card, I only have one race I’m getting involved in, and that’s The Sodexo Gold Cup. Always a difficult affair, but it looks a renewal up to the usual standard. Missed the 12’s for Valtor, and the 10’s for Black Corton, but conversely, I’ll be getting a better price for Regal Encore. In the end I’ll leave out Valtor, as I can’t have three in this, but I’ll certainly be with the other two.Ayr
In the opener, Roxboro Road really catches the eye. Not overly impressive in his early runs for this yard, but Haslam tends to get a tune out of them eventually, and with a full preseason in his care, I think he can make an impression here. The 1417 is an interesting race. I really like Milvale and Planet Nine. I think Milvale could be very good, and I’ll probably bet him too, but I think off a break, Planet Nine could surprise at a price. Conditions should suit.
Down Royal
I really don’t want to bet in The Ladbroke Champion Chase, as it looks one to just enjoy. I love Delta Work, but his run in this last year is a concern. No complaints if he wins. I’d kick myself if The Storyteller won at 7’s when he’s in the best form of his life. My hands are tied with him.No doubt the most competitive race of the day, and that’s The WKD Hurdle. It’s a serious line up. Ten Ten, Cayd Boy, Got Trunped, and Ex Patriot all look dangerous. I was torn between the JP duo, Hearts Are Trumps, and Campeador. Campeador is a crazy price, having been given a proper chance, though he’s not as common sense a selection as Hearts Are Trumps.
Wetherby
It’s the best Charlie Hall I can remember, great line up, and could make a case for most of them. I missed the 50’s for Aye Right, but took 28’s. He’s getting bet, so I’ll almost certainly lay off a free bet.I’m with Midnights Gift Antepost in The Mares Hurdle, and for all it’s hard to make a case for Samsung Gunner in the last, he’s at least been given a chance by handicapper, and is a huge price on, admittedly distant, old form.
1307 Ayr – Roxboro Road 15-2
WKD Hurdle – Campeador 50’s EW 5pls
Mares Hurdle – Midnights Gift 25’s EW 3pl
1417 Ayr – Planet Nine
Champion Chase – The Storyteller 7’s
Sodexo Gold Cup – Black Corton 13-2
Sodexo Gold Cup – Regal Encore
1555 Wetherby – Sam’s Gunner 50’s EW 5plOctober 31, 2020 at 01:25 #1507907Might join you with Campeador- the engine he used to have, there’s got to be one in there! A good weekend. Friday at Down Royal and posting my TTF in your comp is the proper start for me
October 31, 2020 at 10:24 #1507941Yeah, he’s got to be worth a go at that price. It’ll end in tears, but got to have a go.
October 31, 2020 at 15:50 #1508061Nice one bob!
October 31, 2020 at 16:08 #1508066Thanks mate, been a good day.
October 31, 2020 at 16:10 #1508068Excellent day, VtC. I really enjoyed The Storyteller and Regal Encore. Campeador, the old warhorse, placed, too!
October 31, 2020 at 16:17 #1508069Cheers mate, unreal day.
Midnights Gift paid her way too, and got decent profits from Aye Right & Planet Nine in running as well, and I got the 80’s as well on Campeador, as I went with Boylesports last night who were BOG.
Topped it all of with EW 4 Folds, hadn’t been doing many perms lately, but it paid off today. Was with Coral as well, and I never win with them, so delighted, as was a decent return in itself.
October 31, 2020 at 17:19 #1508087Brilliant! I love perms but usually chicken out….
October 31, 2020 at 19:14 #1508108Yeah, used to do loads mate, even up to last year, but really cut back this season.
Only done a handful so far, but really paid off today.
October 31, 2020 at 22:12 #1508147Big race of the day is The Cork National, and already covered in Big Races.
Only other one in Ireland tomorrow is in the 1300 at Naas. Modus Operandi is at 10’s, and I thought he looked good enough on paper for a speculative bet, for all that approach’s not really my MO.
I don’t bet at Huntingdon too often, and I try to keep my “Midnights“ to a minimum on this thread as well, but could make an exception tomorrow. Hoot At Midnight looked decent in his early days, but bar his first two runs, I’ve not bet him since. The route to Handicaps has had a positive effect though, and he looked more like it last time. 14’s looks ok to me.
Double that at 28’s, is a horse I’ve had some fun with, Midnight Mustang. There doesn’t appear to be too much depth to the race, and though he’s not one to put maximum faith, I’ve got enough faith to back him at 28’s.
Pointed and Sharp also catches the eye at Huntingdon, and though he’s a risky one, I’ll hopefully get a run for my money with him. On a winning mark, and I’m looking at the drop in trip as a positive.
At Carlisle, The Colin Parker Memorial gets its usual quality field, and though I’ve cooled since putting him up in Big Races, Sam Brown, around 13-2 is the pick, particularly on this ground, even with a tough task at the weights.
Later on the card, Donna’s Diamond is a seriously big looking price at 11’s, but I’m as well waiting to see if Kid Commando runs.
In the penultimate race, I’m torn between Roll Again, Sam’s Adventure, and Lough Derg Farmer, but I’ll hold off unless any earlier luck.
Few firms early BOG tonight, so took advantage.
1300 Naas – Modus Operandi 10’s
1422 Huntingdon – Pointed and Sharp 20’s
1440 Carlisle – Sam Brown 13-2
1455 Huntingdon – Hoot At Midnight 14’s
1510 Carlisle – Donna’s Diamond 12’s
1558 Huntingdon – Midnight Mustang 28’s EW
Cork National – General Principle 33’s EW 6 places
Cork National – The Gatechecker 16’s
Cork National – Bay Hill 16’sNovember 1, 2020 at 01:23 #1508166I can’t believe I didn’t back Regal Encore. I always back him and he even drifted out to 16’s.I also couldn’t find Campeadors race till it came on the radio. I’ve been listening to Radio Sport 927 most nights now that I can access it and they give lots of tips for the days races. Made a note of a horse called The Bar something or other and couldn’t find that either. It only won at 28/1 and it was a Gai Waterhouse horse so I should have spotted it. I did back Johnny Get Angry who won at 22’s though. Going to follow you with Prince of Arran for the Cup as that Jaimie girl is a bit of a giant slayer [although she couldn’t get Mr Quicky to go quick enough last night; he was no price though so I didn’t back it].I rather like having Australian radio on at this time of year and pretending I’m in Australia, especially nowadays given that they’ve got the virus under control.Won’t be able to post on the forum for a few weeks but will be looking in.
