Delighted with that today.
I managed to get 11’s for Surrounding this morning, and not for the first time, she did me proud. It was a crazy price, I thought she should have been pushing favouritism.
It was harder to be as bullish beforehand about Justanotherbottle, and certainly at halfway, you’d have been writing him off, but in a crazy run, he flew home. Incredible ride by Kevin Stott, especially in a dash like that. First return in a while from Bottle, and for it to be 18’s, and in the manner he did it, made it that bit sweeter.
No excuses for the others. I Layed Melburnian before the off for a small profit, while I should have did the same with King Ottokar, but I’m not complaining, any Saturday where you have winners at 11’s and 18’s is to be enjoyed.
October 17, 2020 at 23:41 #1506575Have to go back for more on Sunday after that today.
The Welsh Champion Hurdle has a typically tough field. Old friend Ballyandy is back out, and though common sense says that there’ll be more than one unexposed type in there, 11’s looks too big. The same applies to that 20’s for Remiluc. Yes, he’s not getting any younger, but I think he looks well treated on his excellent effort in The Betfair Hurdle, and rider takes 10 off. He’s drifting, and I’m hoping to beat that price.
Earlier on the card, Rosiearosiearosie, might be hard to make a winning case for, but there must be place prospects on last run.
At Sedgefield, The Durham National has the best line up I can remember for it. Rock On Fruity might be an old rogue, but I’ve got a real soft spot for him, and he shaped well for a long way over hurdles last time. Won here last season, hardly hammered for it, and I’m hoping he’s in the mood. If he’s not, I can hardly act shocked about it. Either way, he’s overpriced.
The 1442 at Cork is a nice wee race, and I really like both Highest Benefit, and Ballyadam Destiny. Neither getting too much market support, so I’ll hopefully beat current price.
The 1700 at Cork is a cracking race, and another who’s hardly getting market support is Dakota Moirette. He’d be my biggest fancy of the day at that 16’s, and I’ll take more if he drifts. It just looks wrong.
1330 Ffos Las – Rosiearosiearosie 20’s EW
1442 Cork – Ballyadam Destiny
1442 Cork – Highest Benefit 10’s’s
Welsh Champion Hurdle – Ballyandy 11’s
Welsh Champion Hurdle – Remiluc 25’s
Durham National – Rock On Fruity 20’s
1700 Cork – Dakota Moirette 25’sOctober 18, 2020 at 19:06 #1506655Great start to the day with the 20’s EW on Rosiearosiearosie.
Unfortunately that was a smaller bet, and all downhill from there. Not much else to say.
October 23, 2020 at 00:28 #1507006Notoriously difficult card, the season opener at Cheltenham, so being very careful.
Took 7’s for Midnight River in the opener, certainly impressive last time, and pleased to see a bit of support.
Galvin is obviously the one I’m most interested in on the card, but wouldn’t surprise me to see him get in the places only, and not touching him at that price. I’ll stick with the 14’s for NH Chase.
The 1500 is a toughie, but I’d hope that Weather Front can give me a run for my money at 12’s.
The 1535 is a cracker, and the five places draws me into Doitforthevillage. I’m fairly confident he can outrun those odds.
The last looks one to sit out, but I can’t desert my old pal Sternrubin, who looks to have a fighting chance, for all stable form is a concern.
If it’s like any other season, I’m expecting a washout, but got to have a go.
Cheltenham
1350 Midnight River 7’s
1500 Weather Front 12’s
1535 Doitforthevillage 22’s EW 5 Places
1715 Sternrubin 12’sOctober 23, 2020 at 22:39 #1507095Nothing much to report from that lot today, though I laid back my stake on a Midnight River before the off, and also on Sternrubin in running. Still a losing day obviously, but those lays made a difference.
Cracking days racing again Saturday, but I’ll stick with old Buckhurst in The Cox Plate.
Cox Plate
Buckhurst 28’s EW 5 Places
Buckhurst, Armory

October 24, 2020 at 11:10 #1507137Not all bad yesterday, and the run of Galvin was very pleasing.
Back to that old problem today of too many selections.
It was low stakes yesterday anyway, as it’s a traditionally difficult meeting, and I’ll be cautious again today with this many on the go. I’ll certainly be laying Melburnian before the off. That worked well last week, and nice to have a free race. Obviously the horse I want to win most today is Euchen Glen, but he won’t be the jackpot bet he’s been for his two wins this year, and I’ll stick with my Antepost bet.
If I have any luck early doors, I’ll consider that 1645 at Newbury.
1420 Doncaster – Orvar
1515 Cheltenham – Tobefair 15-2
1515 Cheltenham – Goodbye Dancer
1550 Cheltenham – Frodon
1605 Doncaster – Get Knotted
1610 Newbury – Euchen Glen 8’s
1614 Leapordstown – Numerian 8’s
1649 Leapordstown – Melburnian 8’sOctober 24, 2020 at 15:59 #1507191Frodon jumped them absolutely silly. That was lovely to watch.
October 24, 2020 at 16:04 #1507198He’s an absolute superstar, love him.
October 24, 2020 at 16:14 #1507202Perfect ride on Euchen Glen and he rewards your loyalty again!
October 24, 2020 at 16:21 #1507204Thanks Grass, what a horse he is, they don’t come around too often these ones.
October 24, 2020 at 23:11 #1507243Much more like it today.
Didn’t start too well with Orvar running just ok, before two lifeless runs from my pair in The Pertemps.
All good after that though. Frodon and Euchen Glen in the space of twenty minutes was one of the highlights of the season. The manner in which they both won was the icing on the cake. Happy happy days. Unusual for Euchen not to be the biggest bet of the day, that was Frodon, but with the pair of them at 13-2, and 8’s, I was absolutely delighted.
Throw in Get Knotted EW 16’s, nice profit on Numerian in running, and a free bet with Melburnian, and it was as good a Saturday as I could ask for.
Definitely back for more tomorrow.
October 25, 2020 at 00:46 #1507250Really looking forward to Midnight Shadow in The Old Roan. It’s probably not ideal that Danny Cook is out, but hopefully Sean Quinlan can get a tune out of him. He’s already got a Scottish Champion Hurdle, Relkeel, and a Dipper to his name, so it would be nice to get another recognised prize to his name. On Antepost, but I’d consider topping up.
His stablemate Vintage Clouds looks a big price in The Veterans, and I had to go with him, as he’s run well at this meeting before. Theatre Guide could surprise too, but I’m hoping he’s one for The Badger Ales.
Elsewhere on the card, Crixus’s Escape, and Point of Principle look very tempting at current prices, and there’s a bit of blue for the former, so I’ll bet him just now, with a view to going back in if he drifts.
At Wexford, I’m giving Scoir Mear another chance. He didn’t disgrace himself (eventually) in The Munster National, but conversely, he wasn’t exactly screaming out for a drop in trip. Tricky, but at 16’s, happy to find out.
At Galway, notebook horse At The Acorn is back, and he’s another with question mark over the trip. Probably short enough, but I’m sure there’ll be a plan with him, and although I’ll no doubt back him anyway, the plan right now is to back him if I have any luck earlier.
1322 Aintree – Vintage Clouds 12’s
Old Roan Chase – Midnight Shadow 12’s
1432 Aintree – Crixus’s Escape 12’s
1542 Aintree – Point of Principle 20’s
1555 Wexford – Scoir Mear 16’sOctober 25, 2020 at 19:44 #1507351Scoir Mear was an inspired selection, VtC. He absolutely pulverised the field (albeit there were two non runners). However, on that form, I can’t see that any of those would have got anywhere near him.
October 25, 2020 at 20:03 #1507355Please tell me you backed Del Arca Bobby. Must be the first time ever I didn’t back him. Or Mohaayed ew. Gutted doesn’t come close. Mind you he, thankfully, wasn’t much of a price….that would have REALLY hurt….
October 26, 2020 at 00:21 #1507377I didn’t Moe, what was I thinking?
Mohaayed very interesting run though, and not totally discounted for The Greatwood. Best run for ages that.
October 26, 2020 at 00:27 #1507378Thanks Sungold, what a performance from him, he blew them away. I knew he had it in him. Chuffed with that 16’s, and gave me a cracking return, which put me well ahead on the day, which was a relief, as the others all flopped badly.
Very happy with how how the weekend went, but hopefully that’s me until Saturday now.
October 26, 2020 at 09:19 #1507387Another weekend another big winner lol! Lovely, won easy too.
