Couldn’t find any bets at all today, and was looking to play on too.
As I’ve given it a swerve today, and with Cheltenham abandoning their Friday card, I’ll have a go tomorrow.
Really decent card At Punchestown.
In the opener, I’m considering Run Wild Fred. I think he’s got plenty to offer still, but I was a bit surprised with the general 7’s. Thought he might be one for the spring festivals, and I’ll watch the market. I’d actually like to see him shorten, if that makes sense.
I’ve been waiting on Stones and Roses for a while now. Ideally, I wanted to see him over a longer trip, but with the stable flying, I can’t ignore the 25’s. Spades Are Trumps looks interesting at a price too.
In the big hurdle, I get to see two old friends, Any Second Now, and Bachasson. Bachasson opened at a really generous price, but even then, too short for me. He should win though. He’s a smashing horse. Any Second Now is no back number either though. Common sense would suggest that he’s out for another spin, with a view to Aintree, but he’s already had a couple, and can afford to run well here. I’ve no doubt that (on a going day), he’s the second best horse in the field, yet he’s outsider at 20’s. I can’t let that go, should Bachasson have a mishap. There’s also the angle that Bachasson might be going for Coral Cup again, and he’s currently sitting on same mark as last season. I’d suspect that that race is the plan, as WPM has always seemed reluctant to run him in G1’s too often. Unlikely angle I know, but worth considering with Any Second Now.
In the next, the ever unpredictable Campeador is running, and he’s a price at the moment. A price I’d be happy to cover. Dalton Highway back out though, and reunited with Jack Kennedy. 4’s looks fair.
Punchestown
1230 Run Wild Fred 7’s
1305 Stones and Roses 25’sDecember 31, 2020 at 14:39 #1515910Better than I could have possibly expected from Stones and Roses there, winning as he liked. I’ve been waiting on that for a while, and certainly worth the wait.
Small profit in running from Fred as well, and smashing to see Bachasson having a stroll to victory as well.
The rest were Non Runners.
I’m taking the money and running with Dalton, and decided to cash him out, as there’s a hefty Rule 4.
December 31, 2020 at 20:20 #1515940No serious bets tomorrow, but these are the ones I’m betting. Main hopes are Off The Beat, and now that Buckled doesn’t go, Elf De Re.
It’s one I’m not betting that I’m most interested in, and that’s Brahma Bull, up against Al Boum Photo. Hoping to see a good trial for The Thyestes. I suppose Acapella will be worth a second look too for Gowran.
New Years Day
1245 Musselburgh – Herbiers
1252 Tramore – Mc Alpine 9’s
Betway Hurdle – Elf De Re 12’s
Auld Reekie Chase – Cool Mix 10’s
1535 Musselburgh – Off The Beat 12’sJanuary 1, 2021 at 13:02 #1515981Great win with S+R yesterday. I thought I’d wait till morning to check racing going ahead, then missed the price completely so didn’t back him.
January 1, 2021 at 13:29 #1515986Thanks Grass, really enjoyed that one. He did it well, and should be more to come.
January 1, 2021 at 20:07 #1516036Great start today with Herbiers finishing second at 50’s, and that paid for the day, which is just as well, as the rest of them were really poor, and particularly disappointed with Elf De Re, and Off The Beat.
January 2, 2021 at 00:10 #1516074Saturday is all about my old pal Seeyouatmidnight, and I’m hoping that with a run under his belt, he can go close. I thought the 20’s to six places was too good to be true, and I had a fair swing at that.
The problem with that EW bet, is that I don’t want two EW bets in the race, so Regal Flow, who I think is rock solid EW, will be win only. I’m going to cover Theatre Guide as well, so he’ll be win only two. That pair will obviously be smaller bets, but at the prices, I’ll be happy with them if it goes their way.
The only other one catching my eye at Sandown is San Benedeto. I suspect that he’s probably being geared towards a big pot in the spring, and both the trip, and the fact that he’s going right handed is a concern. However, he travelled like a dream last time, and he’s so well treated, so I just can’t leave him here at double figures.
There’s a really interesting one from the Nicky Richards yard running at Ayr as well, Reivers Lad. His win at Newcastle three years ago was very impressive, and it’s a shame that injuries have stopped him fulfilling his potential. Too short for me to bet tomorrow, but I’m really looking to see if he’s still got it.
At Cork, I think Mister Butler can outrun his odds. A really tricky customer this, but he’s got a squeak here if he’s in the mood, and last run was encouraging.
I’ll have smaller bets later on Powersbomb and Treaceysenniscorthy.
1350 Sandown – San Benedeto
1448 Cork – Mister Butler
Veterans – Seeyouatmidnight 20’s EW 6pls
Veterans – Regal Flow
Veterans – Theatre Guide
1523 Cork – Powersbomb
1523 Cork – Treaceysenniscorthy 15-2January 2, 2021 at 15:13 #1516156On fire Bobby.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 2, 2021 at 17:26 #1516189Thanks Jack, happy boy tonight.
January 2, 2021 at 17:54 #1516195Brilliant selection. Ryan Mania gave it a superb ride. I felt confident from the off. Hope the rest of the year unfolds like that for you.
January 2, 2021 at 20:07 #1516207Cheers Sungold, yeah, he was always travelling well, it really was like clockwork the whole way round. Well done yourself.
January 3, 2021 at 00:44 #1516220Great day Saturday then, and that win by Seeyouatmidnight was a bit special. One of my favourite ever horses, and as I said, I had a fair old swing at the 20’s, and just delighted with him. Could ramble on all night about him, and how happy I was, but I’ll leave it at that.
Throw in Treaceysenniscorthy winning at 15-2, and Mister Butler 22’s EW, and it was a very good day.
January 3, 2021 at 01:02 #1516221Bit more low key Sunday, but got to keep going after Saturday.
In The Sussex National, I’ll side with Rathlin Rose. Got a chance off his current mark, and with rider taking five off, must have a chance of beating last years third place. He’d be main fancy of the day.
Earlier on the card, San Pedro De Senam May be rusty after an extended layoff, but looks worth chancing off this mark.
There’s probably nothing in it, but Thunderosa really caught my eye last year at Fairyhouse in a decent race, and I made a point to bet him if I thought the price appealed. That looks the case today.
I’m not convinced that Forza Milan really wants this step down in trip, but stepping down he is, and at 4’s, in a strong enough race, there’s plenty to be wary of, but I’m getting drawn to him.
1320 Plumpton – San Pedro De Senam
1415 Fairyhouse – Thunderosa
Sussex National – Rathlin Rose
1520 Fairyhouse – Forza Milan 4’sJanuary 3, 2021 at 18:29 #1516282Great effort from Forza Milan today, and was really chuffed getting the 4’s, while I was just as happy getting the 33’s EW with Thunderosa, and hopefully I’ll get him at a price again.
None of them particularly big bets, but happy with that today, and hoping for a quiet midweek. Been a great week, but looking for a break now.
January 3, 2021 at 19:54 #1516290Nicely done again today Bobby!
Backed Thunderosa myself ran alright considering the drift!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 3, 2021 at 21:36 #1516299Cheers Jack, when I put him up last night I was expecting a win bet at 12’s, 14’s, but it was some drift.
Glad I stuck with him, should have a race in him before the season’s out.
January 9, 2021 at 09:49 #1516941Good to see three of the courses survive this morning.
No idea why my Tommytucker post is merging with my Lanzarote post below…….bizarre
Chepstow
The Welsh National, bar a wee golden spell for a few years there, hasn’t been a great race for me, and I wouldn’t go mad on it usually. Same again this year, but I’m putting a few quid the way of Ramses De Teille. I think he’s a very good horse, and for all he was trounced at Aintree, there were very encouraging signs. The market is less than encouraging, but I’m sticking by him. I think he’s best horse in the race by some way, and he isn’t top weight. I always like that scenario. The market is my main concern, but I’ll also cling on to his course form as a positive.Stablemate Vieux Lion Rouge is the backup.
Earlier on the card, I like Yggdrasil. I took 14’s on him earlier in the week, with him having caught the eye at Sandown. I thought he was value, with the real chance that the Elliot runners wouldn’t travel, which is what transpired. It didn’t go to plan though, and 20’s was widely available last night. I didn’t bother topping up though, as it’s never a good idea for me to have a big bet on juveniles. 16’s still available, but I’ll stick with a wee bet at 14’s.
Kempton
Really looking forward to seeing Master TommytuckerSolo and One True King for The Betfair Hurdle, and I’d give them a chance here, as well as Big Bad Bear and The Cashel Man. Makes sense to sit this out, but I’ll have a bet on Solo.
Earlier on the card, I like Erick Le Rouge. Missed the 9’s, 10’s earlier in the week, and after waiting him out for opening show, still managed to miss the 6’s. Took the 11-2, and think he’ll run well.
Wincanton
Slate House looks risky, and he’s a horse who’s never really interested me, but he looks a bit overpriced here, and I’ll have an interest on him.In the last, I think Gardefort will either trail in, or win in a romp. I hope it’s the latter. I’ll stick with him, though he is short enough.
1310 Kempton – Erick Le Rouge 11-2
1325 Chepstow – Yggdrasil 14’s
1435 Wincanton – Slate House 7’s
Silviniaco Conti – Master Tommytucker 8’s
Welsh National – Ramses De Teille
Welsh National – Vieux Lion Rouge
Lanzarote – Solo
1545 Wincanton – Gardefort 5’s - AuthorPosts
