I noticed at the start of the season that Horses In Training showed no new intake of Kingpower juveniles at Tim Easterby’s yard. This may have earned him a place back on the list when they go to the yearling sales this Autumn but it was obviously an issue that the ITV racing team did not want to touch upon. OK, it would have been a little out of order to mention it to the trainer in the aftermath of the triumph but they should at least have made the viewers aware – though then again maybe not given the type of audience they cater for.

Nowt from Tim after Winter Power either. Maybe its his choice, and he was as nauseous as I was after the huge (fake) love in for Stravivarious and Dettori scrambling home.

Would have been nice if they had given a bit more credit to Spanish Mission for his part in a cracking Lonsdale Cup. Wasn’t until Jason Weaver’s review of the finish that he got any credit to distract from team’s brown nosing of Dettori (nothing against Stradivarius, he’s a fine horse who gave it the works).

P***ing in the wind with this one, but why do they give air time to the irritating Mark Heyes who offers nothing to the programme, racing or otherwise?

Quite agree. Its been well over the top for years. Dettori is a numerous convicted drug cheat, who also openly lied about it. Why does racing continue to kiss his arse without question?

The commentators or presenters whatever they are show their true journalistic nature by wanting headlines all the time. There’s a bias always towards certain beings.
That’s when it’s nice just to hit the mute button and watch the ruddy thing, I don’t want to be peppered non stop, even influencing who I should be cheering on.

Ah, the mute button – God’s own invention.

I confess that every now and then I turn the sound both on but the biggest certainty of the day is that I always regret it after a few seconds.

Peter Easterby was IMO one of the all-time great trainers given the ammunition he had and his son, like a vintage wine, seems to be maturing into one with age.

And David Allan can certainly give a horse a ride when the money is down – bit like watching Luke Morris, but without that surreal feeling after the race that you just visited a butcher’s located at a windmill.

“Why does racing continue to kiss his arse without question?”

Because he is a “personailty” and one of the few jockeys the casual racing watchers who form much of ITV’s audience have heard about and could recognise. And a commercial broadcaster presumably think he is good for their ratings and will keep the advertisers happy.

But I agree with you. For a man north of 50, his attention seeking “look at me” routine (which he can turn on and off at the drop of a hat) is really annoying and completely phoney.

I remember being on a train back from Aintree to Liverpool one day. I overheard three racing people, two of whom work for specialist racing channels, having a conversation about Dettori. None of them had a good word to say about him.

Not keen on the new graphics look for the racecards. Would much rather show them in blocks of 4 rather than having them wavering about at the top of the screen.

That was a highly debatable photo live on ITV4. Looked like the runner up won head, hundreds of thousands matched at 1.01 on the photo result. Can’t say i am convinced.

happy to say didn’t watch Goodwood or York, just the race on Utube or results. Dettori great jockey but annoying and the media love him because he talks to them, doesn’t matter what S*** he’s spouting they’ll have it. Racing Post is just as bad as ITV Racing you can read between the lines it’s all along the lines of BBC crap.

The paddock chap Ken Pitterson made me smile when he said Frankel was the best looking horse he’s ever seen. While he’s arguably the best racehorse ever and certainly the highest rated having seen him in the flesh at Newbury he is by no means the best looking.

ITV racing is great for the sport but they have too many pundits, too much waffle and not enough time devoted to the stars of the sport, the horses.

Be interesting how their viewing figures have fared over time. If they are the same or below what they were, how can they justify having at least 12 people and growing on there.

GSP do you really believe viewing figures, 12 people, and growing only a matter of time before they have a letterbox in the paddock, especially since where been infiltrated left-right and centre. this country this Britain getting a taste of what the USA is going through. The world awaits your return, President Trump. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Perm any two from three from Brough Scott, John Oaksey and Ken Butler, John Penney and Raleigh Gilbert doing the commentating, John Tyrell doing the betting and results.

A crew of six voices and faces delivered a cracking ITV7 week after week after week with the focus on betting.

It was as brilliant as it was simple.

I am convinced the same format would be more popular here in 2021 than what we have now.

    Change is not always progress.

Agree ID. To ITV it’s all about the presenting, seeking of the ‘perfection’. You can add Francome to that fantastic list of yours, always interested to hear his views, criticism, banter and stories, all done in a voice like he had a snotty cold.
‘Imperfections’ and raw presenting, we loved it or at least it did not rile us.

I think generally things started going downhill with Clare Balding involved, and now wrongly ITV seem to be following her blueprint. It’s sterile, manufactured with no chemistry.

No broadcaster would allow a team like that today.

    I agree with GSP.

The decline started with Clare Balding’s dumbing down of BBC coverage in vain search of turning racing into a sport with mass appeal.

It didn’t work, it didn’t win new racing fans, casual or otherwise, and it alienated existing racing fans.

And it spawned b*****d offspring like The Social Stable that we see on ITV today.

Peter O’Sullevan, Julian Wilson, Jimmy Lindley, Richard Pitman and Len Martin and Tim Gudgin (betting shows and results) weren’t perfect, but they were another tight little crew who used to deliver BBC racing coverage with a bit of style and gravitas.

Racing broadcasts on TV have definitely gone downhill since those days.
