Me too. Fast forward the usual obvious tips of the favourites and much as Francesca is a lovely lady can’t take to her. Leona seems much more likeable and knowledgeable. It’s not as bad as some make out but could be a whole lot better. Focus more on the horses would be a start.

As I am at home and not at the races today, though I am watching the racing on my iPhone as usual I have got ITV Racing on silently in the background.

I get the vague impression the broadcaster wants viewers to find them a jolly crew of fun characters, but I doubt many are buying into that idea.

It all looks incredibly elitist and out of touch with most ITV viewers to me.

Yes, the fun character doesn’t work if its not natural
Jimmy Greaves the was perfect “fun character” pundit on the football because it was his natural game

Lovely to see the Queen there today. She’s worked tirelessly for this country since the 50s. God bless her.

    Absolutely, Nathan.

Jimmy Greaves was the perfect football pundit for ITV, salt of the Earth, down to Earth, a bit “gorblimey” and millions upon millions of viewers could readily identify with him.

So ‘Who is Lady Swinley?’ ends up as ‘Who is Mark Heyes?’.

The whole Lady Swinley thing????? Nonsense.

I watched Sky Sports Racing most of the week and enjoyed it. Michael Holding a brilliant guest, knows his stuff and could listen to him all day.

I would say we (i.e. most of us TRF’ers) aren’t really who ITV racing are aiming at and my anecdotal experience of non-enthusiasts watching racing is that they find pre-race horse by horse analysis and the like ‘boring’.
Not an easy trick for them to pull off wen you think that they only have 15/20 minutes of actual action and have the other four and a half hours to fill.

    Agree robnorth.

Not that I was bothered who Lady Swinley was, but her anecdotes were amusing.

But how on earth can it be Mark Heyes when it was not his idea, not him speaking the words, not him doing the writing. Baffling, I could have been Lady Swinley on that basis.

Weaver and Harvey clay pigeon shooting today was gripping.

I really love it when they all talk about their golf rounds too. Really find that fascinating. I love it when Robert Key talks about it endlessly during the cricket.

this is what television is all about. The lives of these smart talented first class minds and their hilarious side clutching banter

Its almost as good as Harry Redknapp Summer with his Frankenstein wife and the classic memorable moving scene when he went to buy fish and chips with Kamara and John Barnes

Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

I wonder at which point in life a person thinks: “I’m famous, right? This means the general public are interested in every aspect of my life, right?”

The problem is, Clive, some of the public actually are.

And why doe Matt chapman sound like a bloke who’s been on 40 Bensons with a bottle of scotch the previous night? Shouting through his hoarse voice and sweat dribbling pores. Im sure im being unfair but does he pong a bit?

His predecessor absolutely stank on hot days at the course. Maybe its part of the job?

Agree Ian but how far will this go? How much will we want to know?

    For instance…Francesca Cumani announcing..

ITV Racing’s purview is to attract a wider audience base and as such you will always get the fluff pieces about the background of the players in the sport/show which will never really sit well with the more dedicated racing fan who will most likely find that kind of stuff superfluous and grating in equal measures.

At the end of the day it is a show that is parts sport/part light entertainment show catering more to growing an audience of newer people to the sport and showing them that there is also a social family friendly aspect to the sport and not just about the perceived murky betting aspect of it.

For me I find the mute button comes in handy for those parts of the show I can well do without but given the healthy viewing numbers they are churning out and the contract extensions they are obviously doing something right with ITV even if it is not the cup of tea for the truer racing fans.

Not sure they are highlighting the “social family friendly” aspects with their main emphasis being on how much you can drink during the day. No wonder racing has such a problem with drunks. And who pays top whack for a ticket to the races to then sit indoors in a restaurant? Obviously plenty but it seems insanity to me!

Very poor of ITV not to update on Rochester House, especially when Bell actually interviewed Mark Johnston.
