tbh I can see both points of view.
I agree with LD, I hate the PC / wokeness too. Comedy is under attack and am very much in the Rowen Atkinson / Ricky Gervais camp on that one.
…And to comment on a woman’s beauty should not be seen as being a Perv. But it does depend on how it is done. If tastefully done then all’s well and good… And seemed to me it was (to borrow from Kenny Everett) all done in the best possible taste here.
However, when there are so many comments about how women in Racing look on the same page/s of this ITV Racing thread… Even tasteful comments can add up to something that – to women looking in – maybe at least a little discomforting. May look as though they are ONLY being judged in a sexual way, nothing of any real note about the ladies horse racing knowledge. So I can understand Tonge’s original comments even if not quite agreeing with them.Maybe we should also remember the old Monty Python sketch: “A nod’s as good as a wink to a blind bat”.

good luck to allOctober 11, 2024 at 08:10 #1709488Amongst all the old duffers in here moaning about the collapse of society (that is, actually showing people respect instead of drooling over them), the main question about Cumani, Nicholls etc is this:
Are they actually any good at the job or are they only there because old men (and it’s always old men) get giddy when they see them in a nice outfit?
Would they be on the telly if they had two heads and a hunchback? Of course they wouldn’t. TV presenters have to do two basics, which are ‘look the part’ and ‘be able to speak without turning into a petrified mess’. And of course anyone who was knowingly going to appear on TV is going to put a bit of effort in.
And one forum request: Can we not lose our minds over this stuff when there isn’t anything to lose their minds over? Despite how much some of you want it to happen so that you can go all anti-woke again, nobody is going to arrest you if you tell us that you fancy someone off of the telly.
October 11, 2024 at 09:57 #1709491Indeed qf. I find the whole wokeness debate infuriating. Obviously society is different when we were lads and rightfully so but being scared to say anything in case it offends is not a good place for society. Surely if someone says something out of place a wee bit of guidance is better than ostricising them. We have all had old ones say things that make you cringe after all.
October 11, 2024 at 16:49 #1709519Moving on to something completely different, I just noticed that the last race of the day at Newmarket is the G3 Pride Stakes featuring the Oaks runner up, very odd to see it placed there as you might have thought it could have made it onto ITV shedule.
October 25, 2024 at 17:01 #171072224 out of the 28 races, at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival, will be televised live on ITV
October 25, 2024 at 18:03 #17107246 races a day, in other words. Which based on the current running order means RTV will have exclusive rights to the National Hunt Chase, the Champion Bumper, the Kim Muir and the Martin Pipe.
I wonder how many subscribers they will lose?
October 25, 2024 at 19:56 #1710727Unless one is an absolute ‘nut’ about horse racing and just cant leave it alone i cant see how many can still be bothered with subscription to Racing TV.
Just my opinion, of course.October 25, 2024 at 19:58 #1710728Further re Cheltenham festival next March:
Timings have also been tweaked, meaning the feature contests on each day – the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, Stayers’ Hurdle and the Gold Cup – will be run as the fifth race rather than the fourth at 4pm. The meeting will also start ten minutes earlier, with the first race off at 1.20pm.October 25, 2024 at 22:35 #1710747I personally think the £15 a month I pay is decent value. I do always ring up to complain about the price and they give me a discount for 18 months to bring it down to around that so that certainly helps.
I work a shift pattern of 4 on 4 off so get plenty of time at home. Having a racing channel without adverts every couple of minutes like SSR is frankly a life saver for those midweek days at home.
After I’ve been to the gym or for a run/swim and during the cold and wet months in particular it’s a very cost effective way of keeping myself entertained for a couple of hours.
November 10, 2024 at 20:41 #1712438It seems that at Wincanton yesterday ITV either decided or been told not to show a replay of significant falls in the closing stages of races so as to not upset the do gooders even when they know the horses are ok.

Thought that was a very poor decision by those in charge at ITV. The big race of the day and two important fallers during the race, Remastered and The Changing Man. No analysis or review of why they fell or how well they were going. Can’t imagine American broadcasters ducking such issues, they get in there with the vets etc, even on the flat to keep the public informed.
If ITV don’t want to show fallers, even when they know they are ok maybe they shouldn’t be covering the sport at all.

Does that mean they expect Luke Harvey to be in the way the other side of the first?Value Is EverythingNovember 17, 2024 at 20:06 #1713132Strap yourselves in for a winter and spring of continual ITV crew updates about this ‘David Power’ jockey’s money thing.
