Nick Luck at Catterick for RTV. I hope he hasn’t got a nose bleed coming so far north. ;-)

Maybe he was flying in from somewhere more exotic and his flight was redirected and they told him seeing as he was in the area he could present their coverage…..a case of Lord Snooty goes north.

I expect he will be at Haydock tomorrow, so they have packed him off to Catterick en route.

And then he gets to present a walkover. He did his best to not look thoroughly p*ssed off.

I thought Nick was well educated? He seems to think Minehead is in Devon.

Nice interview with Venetia. When Oli Bell remarked on her keeping track of the prize money I was dying for her to ask him how much he thinks diesel is per litre and how much haylage and shavings are per bale.

I was a bit annoyed with Rich Ricci when interviewed after the Betfair Chase. First of all he pointed out that 98 of his 100 winners were trained by Willie Mullins and he would have liked the landmark 100th to have been trained by Mullins. And didn’t once mention that Venetia had brought Royal Pagaille back from a fractured shoulder to win the race which is some training feat imo.

Rich Ricci having a go at Oli Bell for wearing his big coat on a mild day whilst he wears sunglasses on the most miserable day of the year

Just a belter of a race. Rich is a hoot. Stinking rich but obviously loves horse racing. He was quite emotional and usually his interviews are funny.

Anyone know which channel the racing is on this afternoon? The listings show both ITV1 & ITV4 but surely they won’t show it on both? Is this due to the FA Cup match on beforehand which may go to ET?

Looks like Chamberlin is going to be flogging this tedious (for viewers) jockeys cup to death, every programme between now and next April.
He seems to think we can look forward to jockeys becoming more accessible and taking part in programmes like Harry Skelton did last Saturday. As far as I can remember jockeys have always taken part on the Opening Show/Morning Line and some of it was clearly scripted, just like the Champions Full Gallop documentaries that were scripted with hindsight.

As for the drones following the runners from behind so we can evaluate stride patterns, they would be far more use in front of the runners, instead of the wobbly side on shots from the tracking vehicle.

Cheers RTB. Think I’ll play it safe and record both channels :good:

Bloody hell I sound like GT, hedging my bets ;-)

“As for the drones following the runners from behind so we can evaluate stride patterns, they would be far more use in front of the runners, instead of the wobbly side on shots from the tracking vehicle”.

Drone footage is great for post-race analysis; absolutely useless for live coverage, especially when following runners from behind. As Chamberlain seems obsessed with it, it makes falls look less dramatic and it’s probably a lot cheaper than employing people who actually know what they’re doing, I fear it’s going to be increasingly common.

Yes, this too. I note that he grudgingly muttered something about the importance of the horse during a recent advert for this misguided and pointless “initiative”. I see very little evidence of this during ITV’s coverage which, even before this, was focused almost entirely on jockeys. Perhaps it’s me. I have very little interest in the jockey or trainers’ championships. For me it really is “all about the horse”.

For me the drone cameras should only be used in the replay of races as additional viewpoints/angles to the standard camera views we get, like seeing just how much distance a horse can lose at an obstacle when not meeting it on a nice stride or how far off from the fence some stand off from when jumping or showing the traffic problems a horse can have in trying to get a run.

Sometimes I do wish that the tracking cameras are not used as much, as when they get really close up you get no perspective as to where the next hurdle or fences they are about to jump is until they are literally a stride or two off jumping it or you aren’t able to see a lot of the field on a close up…..sometimes zooming out a little would be beneficial.

Although to be fair we have come a very long way from the days of yore when you would get maybe only one or two camera positions for a course and you had to make do with a rather long range view of races where you could struggle to pick out horses if it was an overcast/dreary day.

Nice problems to moan about for sure.

At least they told us how well Broadway Boy looked in the parade ring given they couldn’t be bothered to show him.
As for the big race The Fighting Fifth, they went for the break with 5mins to go before the race, that’s worse than the BBC Grandstand days

Only the one break 5 mins before the race Skip84?

Amateurs! Sky sports racing can cram in at least 6 ad breaks in that space of time before a race!
