Wallace, just caught yours, well put, except

    Mastercraftsman

    is to
the Curragh, what i am to Ante-Post betting!

TAPK, you just back the horse blindly because he was the first group1 winning 2yo of last year. In the run up to the guineas you were tipping up Mastercrafstman, and said that he was a gd-fm horse, I have always said that he would be better with cut underfoot.

I advised him as a place lay in the newmarket guineas, which you protested, and what do you know he failed to place. Then this time he gets cut and so I put him up along with Westphalia (who looks to have be targetting the Prix Jockey Club instead), and what do you know he wins.

But of course the reason he won is the curragh, not the ground.. I’m sure he’ll be all over him again for the st james palace on gd-fm.

Following a 6/4 favourite blindly makes you the stuff of legends, TAPK?

One suffers from mild-to-severe delusions, me thinks.

An excellent performance from Mastercraftsman, though you would have to think that he owes everything to the ground. He’s done it well, but I don’t believe for one scond that he’ll show the same level of form on a quicker surface.

As much as I love the horse and want him to be another Henrythenavigator I very much doubt he will be.

He ran a great race today and it may have been down to the ground Bully youre quite right. I wouldnt be writing him off for the St James Palace Stakes just yet though.

He’s got the class and ability to grind out that win if the right kind of field turns up. I cant see Delegator turning up at Ascot but Arazan may be his strongest rival that day.

Echo what some have already said.

A good, authoritative performance, but due entirely to ground conditions. Mastercraftsman relished the going whereas others obviously did not.

I would not be so confident of the winner re-producing that form on good to firm ground at Ascot, where speedier types may just have his measure.

Please check the record HWTH…. Mastercraftsman won the Phoenix Stakes on "Good to Firm" going at the Curragh last year. So lets not attribute his success to the bad going. In fact his success on good to firm going was very impressive last year. I would attribute his improvement since the Guineas to Aidan who knows how to nurse the best out of a horse. We will see a lot more of him this year over a mile.

Hmmm I actually think that he’ll be campaigned over 10f if he won’t be getting soft ground. I’d run him in the St. James’ and then the Eclipse.

Last years phoenix stakes is one of those races that has that it has been prudent to just put a big X through. IMO today he has had his conditions and he was up against a field who Rayeni aside didnt have their ideal ground, so the horse I would probably take out of the race as a positive would be soul city. It was clear to see in france last year that he wasnt actioned for the better ground, and even more noticeable at newmarket. Today he was always going well on the ground.

Come ascot he will be priced up on the percieved ability he has shown today, a price which he will not for a second live up to if the ground is gd-fm and on genuinely good ground I think Delegator would cut him to ribbons.

Depends what else Aidan has for those distances.Incidentally he does not have any good 4yo’s this year. So he will be shorthanded at Ascot?

Check the record? Why is this aimed at me? I’ve followed this horse through thick and thin thus far and was meerly agreeing with Bully that his point

    may

be right as some failed to fire today.

I’m taking nothing away from him though that was a great performance. The only negative I gave was that he might not be as good as Henry. But he’d have to be something amazing to like up to Henry anyway so thats not a negative is it

The only part the ground played in today’s race was the emphasis it put on stamina. The winner has already won on fast ground, though again he needed a god tow from his stablemate.
Can’t really see him running in a St James run on summer ground, the Eclipse would be a much more viable option, imo.
Delegator looks a 7f horse through and through, and more likely to win a July Cup than any high class mile race.

I wouldnt really be in favour of stepping up Mastercraftsman for the eclipse as he is IMO just a horse whop wants cut. He wasnt exactly staying on in the newmarket guineas, more being swallowed up by those who moved far better on the ground.

I strongly disagree that Delegator is a 7f/sprinter type. The horse won a craven and was second in the 2000 guineas (a race that usually throws up decent 1m2f types from its winners). He has failed to fire on heavy ground, which was prettyy expectable really. That doesnt make him a sprinter, and I’m getting flashbacks of ravens pass last year (post craven).

I’d say they should give Mastercraftsman a crack at the Prix Jockey Club along with Westpahalia (who admittedly does look a better candidate) and see what he can do there. Other than that its probably best to wait for goodwood or campaign him in french group1s over a mile in an attempt to capitalise on any cut (saying that the french have a few up their sleeve who are similar, and it is only against the likes of them that we’ll get an idea of how good he is).

I’ll remind you of that, when Delegator runs in the July Cup and Mastercraftsman wins a fast ground Eclipse.

Feel free to reet, however, its one thing for Delegator to run in a july cup, and another altogether to win it. I cant exactly take criticism for the stupidity of the owners if they do decide to run in the july cup.

I am perfectly happy with Rayeni….had a good solid e.w bet at 4/1 and it came 2nd.

Havent seen the race but heard he met with some traffic problems but even in saying that Master was clearly the best horse on the day.

Rayeni on his 3rd start to finish against more expierenced horses on a delayed prep is good solid run for me.

Master clearly will head to the St James Palace now and probaly go for most of the mile races. Some say the Eclipse but i not sure that he would stay that for…i always thought of him as a pure galloping miler.

Delegator was a shocking however and for me it was a crazy decision to run him in that….the horse looks finished now for the season.

Being Mastercraftsmans Number 1 fan, i have the authority to say that anyone that actually thought there could be any other result have yet again proved what TAPK keeps saying "There"s an awful lot on here that think they know their horses yet time and time again they fall short of TAPK"s knowledge" I dont need to mention names as they are those who
for some strange reason underestimated the Brilliance of the Master! For all those with the Foresight to see that the Eclipse is an ideal target! ignore the above statement!
