I see Tartini is taking in the Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday against Sir John Lavery
Sir John Lavery is 14’s for the Derby itself, I wonder what price Tartini will be when he hacks up and Dettori tells the world he’s a better horse than Cracksman…

I won’t be backing Sir John Lavery at 6/5 for the Lingfield race.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

‘Bay of Poets’ needs to run this talkin horse ‘Cliffs of Moher’ close tomorrow Nath for us to have half a chance of even getting to Epsom with Tartini pal.I’m happy though that Mr Gosden is running him again in a recognised Derby trial and have taken the 14’s to win..We’ll see if he’s the horse I say he is.
May 11, 2017 at 20:18 #1300409Churchill currently 7/4 to run in the Derby 2/5 not to run.

If Orderofthegarter wins at the weekend then I dare say the decision will be a foregone conclusion.

At least the Lingfield race is 12f Gord opposed to that Epsom race over 10f.
Gosden said Tartini is a ‘Leger’ horse yet gave him a pipe opener at Epsom of all places at a distance short of a picnic. Gosden doesn’t always tell it as it is and must see Tartini as a possible Derby runner however remote that chance maybe, maybe the chance of him running will be far greater after Saturday……

No chance of that Gord. The opposition to Cliffs Of Moher is non-existent. This is a lousy renewal of the Dee Stakes. These trainers must be saving their most pathetic horses to send to take on the Ballydoyle firm. It’s men against boys here. Boys lacking pubic hair at that. What feeble opposition.
Timeform could not even bring themselves to give any horse 4 stars behind the 5 stars Cliffs Of Moher in their preview for the race. Six Two Star contenders and Two Three Star contenders form the opposition.
This is like giving Masterchef contestants a million quid to provide the meal of a lifetime and then watching them dole out a Pot Noodle on Derby Day. Probably a “Haggas” flavoured Pot Noodle.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

That is an interesting analogy there Steve
,I thought ‘Cliffs of moher’ would have been Coolmores Dante horse myself,York would have suited his ‘Wind it up’ style of running.I dont believe we will see a conclusive ‘He will stay the Derby trip’ performance from the horse today so we will have to wait for ‘Exemplar’ and ‘Sir John Lavery’ and even ‘Orderofthegarter’ to show their hands.I hope for selfish reasons ‘Bay of Poets’ runs a big race today and have backed him at 8’s to do so,that will certainly boost Tartinis chances to rock the favourite tomorrow.Exciting times ahead anyway.May 12, 2017 at 12:19 #1300451Orderofthegarter seems uneasy for the French 2000 Guineas Gord. He’s out to 6/1 on Betfair, after sitting 7/2 Joint Fav when it was first announced that he was going rather than Caravaggio.
I have not heard anything of note regarding Exemplar. He was impressive on his second start before getting outstayed by Capri on softer going next time out. The trouble is that Exemplar’s maiden has worked out awfully. Not a single win in 17 subsequent starts and even the Group 2 Beresford he was third in has seen no winners in 8 starts.
I feel Sir John Lavery is short enough tomorrow. The stable are mopping up these trials, as has become the norm in the face of very little opposition. Hugo Palmer seems to have stalled, Cumani is only ticking over, Hannon is more a shorter distance trainer and Mark Johnston lacks quality and consistency. Add that to the trainers mentioned earlier and we really don’t have a strong UK challenge. With the French horses usually shy about coming and seemingly preferring their own, shortened, Derby, it doesn’t leave much to fend off the might of the Ballydoyle operation.
Sir John Lavery sluiced home in his maiden win. He’s a good looking sort and he can clearly gallop. Watching his race again he is rowed along to make his move and approaching the 2F pole he starts to take command. From there he stays on strongly to stretch away from some tired youngsters, most of whom looked all at sea on the heavy going.
I just wonder about his value in the race tomorrow and the Derby itself.
Tartini seems a fair alternative at 4/1. The runner up and 5th from Cracksman’s race have won since. Permian hosed up in listed company, while Never Surrender won a handicap. The latter is not great form but it shows that the horse is capable at his own level and it does no harm to see horses winning.
Interesting racing this weekend

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 12, 2017 at 14:34 #1300470After watching this the 8’s on Cracksman look huge IMO.
May 12, 2017 at 14:39 #1300471Liked Mirage Dancer, Murphy gave him a shocker of a ride tactically but he fairly flew up the straight once he got daylight and was in front of the others 100 yards past the post
May 12, 2017 at 14:40 #1300472I was on Bay Of Poets (e/w fortunately) and feel Buick could have rode a better race – although I’m not saying he definitely would have won.
Cliffs Of Moher will be a better horse when he goes over further and it was a seasonal debut but I can’t believe some firms have cut him to as short as 4/1 for The Derby.
May 12, 2017 at 14:53 #1300475I would be very surprised if COM won the Derby after that to be fair.

On that showing of course, but it’s almost certain he will improve in bundles for the run, just like he did last year. You know as well as anyone Botchy that we shouldn’t take Ballydoyle horses first runs of the season at face value. I thought he showed his class despite being very green throughout and stayed on well, the extra 2f should be no problem. I’m really looking forward to seeing him in the Derby now and I am glad to have him onside at 12/1.
Unless the Dante throws up something good, then I think he is the worthy horse to fill the favourite spot. Here’s hoping Sir John puts an impressive display tomorrow, and Orderofthegarter likewise on Sunday.
May 12, 2017 at 15:00 #1300477With the improvement aidens often find after their first run id say hes a more likely winner than cracksman
Dont think the 8s on cracksman look huge atall
Id rather be on com
May 12, 2017 at 15:45 #1300482Distance is an issue for the large majority of these horses but I would happily be on Mirage Dancer’s side against COM if they renew rivalry but I have a sneaky feeling Mirage Dance will be given more time by Stoute and side step Epsom and maybe we will see him at Royal Ascot.
May 12, 2017 at 16:28 #1300489I had Mirage Dancer at 40s and laid off my stake at 19.5 in the immediate aftermath of the race, and quite relieved after listening to the Teddy Grimthorpe interview. Still leaves me with a half decent pay day should he win at Epsom.
I’m interested in Crystal Ocean at 33s. He’s entered in the Dante and the horse he beat Okool for his maiden win is the even money favourite for the 5:45 at Nottingham later today, if he franks the form it might persuade me to have a few quid on before the Dante.
I’m hoping Sir John Lavery runs well tomorrow and books his place in the Derby. As he is my other bet along with Cracksman so far.
May 12, 2017 at 16:32 #1300490I like Glencadam Glory as an e/w shot at a huge price (28/1) in the Lingfield trial tomorrow. In his last race he completely missed the break and lost a full 12 lengths on the field, however, he recovered really well to finish strongly.
