Hindsight a wonderful thing but wods run at Chester clearly showed he looked decent and he shouldn’t have gone off at 40-1. As aiden said you don’t know until they run the 12f who is best at that trip. Wings of desire was a totally worthy winner and if he improves for the race,as he should do,then I cant see anyone in the Derby beating him. Both com and cracksman just didn’t have the toe to win but that may be due to being not as forward as the winner. Eminent ran cracking race but once again absolutely no reason he should reverse the form. Capri is the horse for me to follow if there is some cut in the going. He was going as good as any but wouldn’t go on on the ground.i think it will turn out to be an ok Derby and had the winner been one of galileo sons then he would have got better press.
Wings Of Desire? I wish. I backed that cuddy last year and he couldn’t win a bobbins Derby

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I take the same out of the Derby with regard to Capri Mickey, I thought he ran a decent race and just
lacked that extra gear at the finish. It’s a pity the rain stayed away, I don’t know whether he would
have won, but he would have been closer. With a bit of cut I’d have backed him again in the same race.
I’ll be keeping an eye on him
June 9, 2017 at 14:55 #1303830Gee Whizz, I thought I was being pessimistic about this years Derby but I am Walter Mitty compared to David Lawrence on the ATR website.
He has rated Wings Of Eagles as the lowest Derby winner since he started writing for ATR.
His rating, wait for it, is just 114 .
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 12, 2017 at 16:32 #1304132Managed to avoid the Classic results for 2 weeks and just watched my recordings of RUK.
Unfortunately, I was on Rhododendron (5/2!) and Cliffs of Moher – a very frustrating 2 hours of catching up to say the least.
Even worse was finding out later that my old man backed Wings Of Eagles at the 40s offered.
Having watched the Prix Du Jockey Club as well it doesn’t seem that the 10furlong+ 3 year olds are up to much and I’d be surprised if Jack Hobbs, Almanzor, Highland Reel, etc.. couldn’t give them weight and a beating from July onwards.
November 15, 2017 at 16:06 #1326846Some of you may have, understandably, missed an interesting debut from a derby entrant on Friday. Giant’s Treasure won in eye catching fashion in the 6.15 maiden at Wolverhampton (replay on the ATR site).
Now obviously the fact he’s debuted on the all weather on a Friday night is probably a slight concern, however, his breeding and the manner of his victory mean that he looks an interesting horse for later in the year to me.
I see after not running again since debut that Giant’s Treasure is named on the Lingfield card for Saturday
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 15, 2017 at 16:24 #1326849I see he is also entered wolves on Monday, could struggle to get in on Saturday nathan
November 15, 2017 at 19:16 #1326858Thanks nwalton
That race is over 7f again, would like to see him stepped up given his pedigreeGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 15, 2017 at 21:01 #1326882The Wolverhampton race looks a much likelier target for Giant’s Treasure. It’s a Class 4 race where he would be top weight. The Lingfield race is Class 2 and he is 27th of the 31 entries.
I am intrigued by John Gosden’s Utmost in Saturday’s race. He was entered in the 2000 Guineas and I backed him for the Newcastle trial for the Classic. Utmost was disappointing, particularly as the race never worked out that great in terms of wins afterwards.
What did encourage me was that John Gosden later said that the winter and spring were not kind to Utmost and that he was going to need a lot more time and in retrospect his 3rd place at Newcastle was probably a decent effort in the context of his readiness to show his best. The son of Giant’s Causeway had looked potentially smart on his only start at 2yo and rated 100 he’s already decent.
Due to run in a Listed race at Newmarket on 4th November, he was taken out on account of the ground being unsuitable. You would think that John Gosden persevering this late in the year would be a good sign and that the horse may be well in if back to his best.
Rab Havlin is jocked up, so I assume the intention is to run Utmost on Saturday. He’s high enough up the ratings to be sure to get in and I feel he is potential value as a dark horse at 14/1. If vibes are positive, surely some people will see the name Gosden on the card and think 14/1 might be worth a bet for a stable currently winning with almost one from every four runners.
An odd thread for a Lingfield tip but it will pay the same if Utmost wins.
2.10 Lingfield Sat 18th Nov Utmost 14/1
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 16, 2017 at 02:34 #1326924Good luck with Utmost Steve he is a good each way bet at 14/1, just a bit worried that he hasn’t run since April and that in that race the horses that beat him didn’t progress as hoped.
The horse that catches my eye is an ex Gosden horse Sacred Act who has been doing nothing wrong since moving to Michael Bell.
Last time out at Lingfield he put on an impressive display to pull away from the rest of the field with the winner Hugo Palmer’s Gulliver ridden by James Doyle who now has been booked to ride Sacred Act on Saturday.
Judging by the way he was running on against Gulliver he should have no problem getting the extra furlong.Interesting race and looking forward to it.. good luck Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 17, 2017 at 15:38 #1327114I’ve seen Sacred Act tipped up for this one Jac and all the best with him. I just fancied trying one at a price here.
It’s a disgrace that we are less than 24hrs from the race and only two firms have priced the race up.
It’s very interesting for me that William Hill go 4/1 on Utmost, who is 12/1 with the other firm quoting odds. That’s a huge disparity and I wonder which way other bookies will go with Utmost?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 17, 2017 at 15:54 #1327118Three other firms are quoting Utmost at 4/1 now

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 18, 2017 at 01:25 #1327254Hope you got the 12’s Steve, Paddy Power have Utmost at 6/1 tonight with Sacred Act 11/4.
I’ve had a tenner on Sacred Act, done a reverse forecast with Utmost and also put him in a Trixie with Boynton and Autumn Snow at Wolverhampton later on just for a bit of interest.
Good luck
Jac
