Zarkava Gord likes Tartini i see him more leger horse myself i do what you think of him
Did I tell you that Darren did I?
..Tartini won a maiden at lowly Nottingham.Derby winners dont do that do they Darren? His half brother ‘Lucarno’ ran 4th in the Derby and went on to win the St Leger,he was a son of the monstrous and enigmatic ‘Dynaformer’ a son of ‘Roberto’ himself.’Tartini’ is a ‘Giants Causeway’ colt who looks much more like his sire,he certainly showed that will to win his Father had in bundles.Having seen him in the paddock he is a colt who will develop physically this winter and even though he’s not even entered in the Derby, neither was ‘Golden Horn’.I expect ‘Tartini’ to re-appear at York and then be supplemented for Epsom. He wont be a St leger horse because he’ll have won the King George by then and be 3/1 fav for the Arc…You do make me laugh Darren.
Good to see some serious Ante-Post money for this years Derby winner recently,Tartini has strengthened this winter into quite an imposing colt.Ladbrokes have taken some 3 figure wagers for him and have cut him to 16/1.I know homework is just another visual interpretation of a horses ability but when you move like this fellow its no wonder there’s been interest.TAPK is sitting on his 80’s vouchers on the machine but I’ve gone in again tonight with Bet365 and their 25/1 to £50 e/w.When I get that feeling about one we all know what happens.
February 18, 2017 at 12:59 #1287878Clear 2nd fav now on betfair exchange on both back and lay prices available, admittedly to pennies but even so.
That makes him favourite as Churchill is a Guineas/10f horse……

February 18, 2017 at 21:02 #1287980That’s a bit frustrating, as I had Tartini down as one of my 2 Leger horses. Cat out of the bag now. Bugger.
February 18, 2017 at 23:44 #1287991As no one has mentioned it I’m happy to be the laughing stock. I backed Eminent each way for a couple of quid. You’ll Be Mine wasn’t a world beater and her first foal As Good as Gold isn’t great but she was well thought of and I was visually impressed, so chucked a couple of pounds at him. Be more confident of a run from a bigger trainer though.
I’m with you all the way with Eminent and have backed him for the 2000 Guineas at 40/1. I saw him in the flesh at Newmarket last year and he looked quite green in the pre-parade but his lad was talking to him all the time and did a great job of calming his pre-race nerves. If he runs down the Rowley Mile like he did when winning his maiden he will do just what his daddy did in 2011 when he sprouted wings and blew the field away. Wasn’t so sure he was a Derby horse but time will tell.
Would really like to see a trainer like Martyn Meade win a top class race like the Guineas, Coolmore seem to have it all their own way when it comes to the Classics. Good luck with him…Jac

Didn’t know that Sunspangled, thanks.

They might regret that move in a few months time.
He’s quite a leggy colt with plenty of room to fill his frame when I saw him so really looking forward to seeing him again and how he has progressed through the break.
Love to see him turn out for the Guineas and the Derby but he may not have Jim Crowley back on board as Sheik Hamdam has retained him.

On his Nottingham race Tartini screams Leger but a lot can happen between 2 years and 3 years in that period between end of season and start. I remember thinking Toronado was tailor made as a Derby horse but he came back a different animal.

February 28, 2017 at 18:21 #1289347I can’t recall a more uninspiring crop of 2yo’s regarding established credentials for the Derby.
Rivet was my ante-post pick at 7/1 for the Racing Post Trophy but I just can’t see him staying the Derby trip and reason for picking him for the Racing Post Trophy was my feeling that he had superior speed.
Churchill looks highly unlikely to stay a mile and a half and the odds are a joke on him.
Cracksman was impressive on debut but I felt he outstayed the Godolphin runner that day as Wild Tempest travelled more sweetly to my eye, before running green and hanging a bit. I wouldn’t totally rule out a reversal, with the Frankel second season factor still an unknown.
Tartini was a mighty impressive winner on debut but I felt he has quite an extravagant action, maybe not ideal for Epsom.
One of the colts who impressed me as a dark sort for this year was George Strawbridge’s other colt Utmost, who made an excellent start to his career at Leicester over 7F. This son of Giant’s Causeway looks a handier sort and he picked up well to assert his authority from two horses who went on to win well next time out.
I doubt he will stay the Derby trip but if Gosden entered him for the 2000 Guineas it would be interesting. Knowing John Gosden though, he will probably play a more patient game with this highly promising colt rated 91 by the Racing Post, which is similar territory to Golden Horn when he went into the winter with one race in the bag.
I recommend a look at Utmost with regard to the future:-

There was greenness as he was asked to go and win his race but when he got the hang of it he picked up markedly and looked good as he hit a higher gear. He was in command to an extent that allowed the jockey to drop his hands close home. It looked like a mile would see him in a better light still and Utmost is definitely in my horses to follow this season.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 28, 2017 at 18:56 #1289352Thanks for the link Steve, certainly an admirable performance…the second that day Cape Byron has since franked the form also by winning the week after…not many bookies have him listed but can get 33/1 with Stan James.
We shall see what the state of play is come April time regarding any other likely types, but I like my 33/1 AP bet on Titus at this moment in time, just hope he has wintered well…
March 1, 2017 at 03:56 #1289417It’s definitely the strangest derby market I can remember with no standout at the moment. If aiden has got a horse apart from Churchill we will find out at chester. Looks wide open and hopefully one of the smaller stables hit the jackpot. I’d love to see mark Johnston win it or someone up north.
March 1, 2017 at 08:31 #1289421Starting to chip away at the 20’s on Sir John again.

There is a video of his maiden win on the link.

March 1, 2017 at 16:50 #1289466Aidan is on record as not ruling Churchill out of the Derby, unlike Gleneagles (also out of a Kingmambo mare) who was always considered a miler through and through. Churchill’s dam was injured as a 2yo, so never had a chance to run beyond 5f, her sister out of Galileo was a 10f horse (never tried further). And Aloft who was also a Galileo out of a Kingmambo mare (who won a 5f G3 as a 3yo) won the 2 mile Queens Vase. Churchill runs like a horse who would easily get 10f, he relaxes and saves himself, and the great Vincent O’Brien said that 10f horses with great speed can win the Derby.
March 2, 2017 at 01:42 #1289523Sir John Lavery bolted up on his second start but I am always wary of horses who win by wide margins on heavy ground. A mile on heavy ground is quite a test for a 2yo and the accent is very much on stamina.
Looking at Sir John Lavery, he made his debut in a 9F race and that’s really a distance where you would be looking at real stayers in the long term competing in. The colt has an Irish 1000 Guineas entry but you would feel that 7F horses and perhaps colts who progressed from 6F and 7F to the mile, would be the ones more likely to succeed in Guineas races.
Obvious comparisons can be drawn with The Gurkha, who looked a Derby sort and then went back to a mile but he was unusual in that respect and Aidan has had many more who won the type of race Sir John Lavery did and then turned out to be very slow. Beacon Rock and Cook Islands were two examples from last season, who were put up by pundits and Joseph O’Brien as possible Derby candidates, however, they looked too slow for The St Leger in the end.
A very interesting prospect but it’s hard to be confident which way Sir John Lavery will pan out in terms of tactical speed. It is a wide open race at the moment though and nobody could be confident about anything at this stage.
It turned out last season that the unraced at 2yo U S Army Ranger was Aidan’s best Derby Prospect. John Gosden’s Wings Of Desire also came from out of the blue as the winner of a Wolverhampton three grand maiden who went on to land the Dante and become a leading Derby fancy. At this stage the Derby looks ripe for another late developer to land a race in the Spring and become a proper candidate for Epsom.
I can’t say I’ve seen any rumours of a beast lurking in the unraced colts at this stage but perhaps something will show up when we get into April and start seeing some maidens in Ireland and at Newmarket.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 2, 2017 at 12:06 #1289547Nice to see you back Steve hope you been ok
March 2, 2017 at 15:22 #1289563Aidan seemed to make a particular effort last year to get a run into all his horses with entries, so I don’t think there is an unraced Derby prospect lurking, but there could be a maiden, perhaps Venezuela, Venice Beach or Auckland.
March 2, 2017 at 17:15 #1289575I had a bit on Cracksman after his maiden win in which he put up a good time – he’s got the right pedigree and connections for the classics, and I’m excited to see him this year. The second in that maiden, the Godolphin colt Wild Tempest, is also of interest.
Other maiden winners I thought looked classic prospects are Barney Roy and Utmost.
