Seemed like a good idea at the time.

If anyone laughs if Mike’s thieving each-way ante-post bet finishes fourth of four they are on the TRF naughty step for a YEAR.

Often the case, Luxembourg was too big a price to be true

    The small field favours Paddington
Emily has speed over 12f but this test will want a bit more of a stamina race to see off Paddington’s mile speed
Emily is more often than not held up and not sure she’ll be happy making the running so will want the other two to kick on.
If no one makes the running its game over and collect for Paddington, he seems a relaxed enough type although possible he could pull

Ian that would be a case of being unable to stop laughing and the more you tried to stop the worse it would get
I reckon if it happens all 53,926 TRF members will be on the naughty step in an uncontrollable manner
aside from Mike who will be typing wd winners and gamble who will be in the basement

O’Brien also provided an update on Luxembourg after connections decided against allowing him to join stablemate Paddington in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday.

He added: “He was only going to be a possible for the Eclipse if Paddington didn’t run, he is in the King George and he’ll be trained for that, I think.

“We’re looking at that for Auguste Rodin as well obviously and I would imagine if Auguste is going there Luxembourg might have to stand back again.

“We’ll wait and see, but at the moment he (Luxembourg) is on the King George programme.”

This tells me that Aidan rates Luxembourg highly but not high enough to get in the way of the 3 y/o’s adding to their CV’s in the interest of the breeding sheds

Filthy, he should have been in the derby so i could have had a 600s+ winner

But in all likelyhood, assuming he handles the distance that he appears to be craving, i dont think youll see an easier winner of a shocking race

While I cannot agree it is a shocking race – Coronation Cup winner Emily Upjohn is a quality rival – I do think Paddington will be hard to beat.

I was kinda perplexed when Paddington didn’t run in the Derby. This horse has a ‘versatile as a Swiss army knife’ vibe about him.
My prediction is that Paddington will bolt up by 5+ lengths.

Four runners for one of our premier Group 1 races, pretty dismal in my opinion.

The more I know the less I understand.

I’m really not fussed about the small field.

We’ve got an Irish 2,000 Guineas and St. James’s Palace winner with an OR of 123, a Coronation Cup-winning filly with an OR of 120, a globe-trotting gelding with an OR of 122 and a Hardwicke runner up.

Nothing that’s been taken out this morning could have beaten the winner of this, anyway.

Paddington wins by at least two marmalade sandwiches without even ruffling his duffle coat, in a contest which will be simulcast live to a care home in Lima, Peru.

Disappointing that a 10F race with £425k to the winner on good ground on a fair galloping course like Sandown (its flagship flat race no less) and you only attract 4 runners, 2 of which are genuine G1 horses, with the other two probably G2 class at best (yes I know Dubai Honour is a dual G1 winner in Australia but we know good G2 horses over here can win at G1 level over there at 10F).

Lets hope Emily and Paddington serve up a race to remember to cover the lack of numbers.

I’m sure someone will utter on ITV, a small but select field instead of a disappointing turnout.

The more I know the less I understand.

Some trainer stats you won’t see elsewhere, for each trainer at Sandown the next two days I’ve calculated the aggregated perc runners beaten sqd (PRB2)for their horses over diff time periods. Plus I’ve included my course specific trainer ratings.

I’m looking forward to the race, EMily Upjohn has won at Sandown at the distance in April last year but in a low class race, it won at York at the dist in a G3 , but it’s G1 wins have been more 12f.

Paddington hasn’t won at more than 1m and O’Brien, despite his performance elsewhere, doesn’t have good record at Sandown, about 14 runs to 1 win in the last 5 years.
But is Paddington all that and a bag of chips in terms of potential improvement ??

I’ve gone with what is and against the potential star prev, sometimes I’ve won and sometimes I’ve lost.

You could just dutch them for about 12% profit at current exch prices.

Managed to drag my Dad to 1987 Eclipse , went to most winter meetings at Sandown at the time but took a bit to get him to the flat as a lifelong jumps man. Still remember him whinging on and on that he didn’t want to buy the course just watch the races after paying the entrance , sure it was 20 quid , a lot at the time . Mtoto beat a top notch field , a good days racing .
Mtoto , sure he had hoof issues they had real trouble with .I see Roberts almost got the big winner in South Africa last weekend .
