I’m on Emily at 2/1 in a five fold with Somerset 4/6 already won, Bluey the French wonder beast already won 3/1 with still to run Con Hill 1/1 turns up wins and Gaelic Warrior 5/1 jumps left, jumps right, pulls like a teenager watching his first dirty video, wins. Its a nice wait till Cheltenham so would be rude not to have a little cover on Paddington

I’d be covering that with an 11 marmalade sandwiches to 10 the Bear if you can get it, Nathan.

    Ian loves Paddington!

I wont be betting in this race tom. There are plenty of competitive handicaps tom to get stuck into, for a good punt. :good:

Paddington should get together with a Duke of Marmalade mare, doesn’t matter if they are or are not related. A nice hay meal together, bottle of water, my barn or yours
Have a foal and call it Marmalade of Marmalade

    “Marmalade of Marmalade”

THIS^, right here, is why Nathan Hughes is a GENIUS and I’ll fight anyone who says he isn’t.

    Unless it’s BigG.

    Or Triptych.

Or most of the forum tbh.

Maybe I’ve missed something here, but this being touted as a ‘2 runner race’ yet the top three Official Ratings are 123, 122 and 120 here. I’ll take a chance with Dubai Honour at 11/1 over the two at the head of the market.

Very fair comment, Rob – I made a similar case for Mostahdaf at Royal Ascot based on that principle.

But maybe I’ve just got Marmalade Fever because I seem to have forgotten what value is for this race – follow the Bear!

What happened to the good old Ballydoyle pacemaker? This could become quite tactical and in this case even lower rated horses seem to perform a few pounds better.

I suspect Ryan Moore will jump off at the pace he wants to go and if that means he leads, that’ll suit him fine because he can slow it down then kick on 3f out in the only dual Group 1 winner at a mile in the field.

And if someone wants to give him a lead that won’t much worry him either.

West Wind Blows being sent off in front to make it attritional is the only foreseeable complication IMO – and that’s not out of the question as he made all in the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park almost a year ago.

I think Rob’s entirely correct and shrewd to point out that Dubai Honour isn’t entirely out of this on the numbers, but I personally think there’s more to come from Paddington.

I think it is definitely worth having a punt on Dubai Honour, small fields and all that.

The more I know the less I understand.

Difficult for Dubai Honour as a slow tactical race gets beat for pace by Paddy
if he goes hard to try and expose Paddy’s stamina he’ll have Emily swinging along on the bit
that said everything has a price and horses have off days

It is a disappointing turn out as already said but it is interesting nonetheless.

Tom Segal pricewise says Emily Upjohn put up the best Group 1 performance of the season so far and reckons she wins tomorrow.

    You know more him, Mike.

Segal is probably in some Hartley Wintney (last I heard he lives just up the road from me) pub right now, saying: “Mike on TRF fancies….”

I hope Paddy can win today.
I’ve followed his career since his Irish debut since when he has been unbeaten.
His English debut wasn’t so good. But what a lovely horse. I deserted him at ascot putting him in a trifecta and got my just desserts no marmalade for me.
This question comes up time and again, just how thick are owners and trainers? Wouldn’t you simply put a horse into this great race and have a great day out and the prestige of saying your horse ran in the coral Eclipse?
The difficulties of entry, the uncertainty, the cost, the unlikelihood of getting in, the impossible ratings subsequently bestowed on participants.
Whatever the reasons we are left with four runners and a meeting flagged up as Coral Eclipse race day.
Perhaps this race could be run first so as not to clash with formula one practice.
I’d encourage Paddington to get up early and watch the recording of Notnowcato’s win here.
In fact I’d encourage Paddington bear to nick Ryan Moore’s silks, lock him in the valet’s cupboard and ride his namesake himself.
I do think Paddington has done something similar before.
