Ace Impact being removed from the betting for this by the look of it.
Did the trainer heed my wise words from my ‘June 4, 2023 at 23:14’ post I wonder. ;o)June 6, 2023 at 13:56 #1650690I bet you just hated posting that, Mike.
Once again The Devil vomits in my ante-post kettle.
And Ben had 50/1!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 6, 2023 at 14:30 #1650694I think there was an entry stage for the race today so ace impact mustnt have been in there
Might still run though
They supplemented vadeni didn’t they? Or am I miss remembering
June 6, 2023 at 14:39 #1650696Both Ace Impact and Vadeni featured in the race in the RP Big Race Entries on Sunday, but they’re not among those still in it now.
I’m guessing you’re right and they’ve been taken out today, making a supplementary entry to get back in unlikely.
I bet it absolutely broke Mike’s heart to pass on the bad news, but he felt it was his public duty – what a guy!
It’s Ben I feel most gutted for – 50/1 and it was down to 5s!

Sorry Ben, hope I’m wrong but very much doubt you’d get paid 50/1 anyway under the “clear and palpable error” rule.
Value Is EverythingJune 6, 2023 at 19:38 #1650733Err, if you read the thread you will see Ben is unlikely to get paid for the rather more prosaic reason that the horse isn’t running and I’ve yet to see a non-runner win a horse race.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 6, 2023 at 20:30 #1650740“Timeform marketing meeting: “So many ratings services nowadays, some ****s are even doing their own. We need to get some publicity to get the name Timeform back in the limelight, something really outrageous and controversial.” New intern: “How about we rate My Prospero 3lb higher than both The Derby and Prix Du Jockey Club winners?” Entire room collapses laughing. Head of marketing: “Stop it, I can’t feckin breathe! Too funny. It was only fourth in the Lockinge. Let’s do it!”
tbh Ian,
Can’t really see what else Timeform could do but to rate My Prospero within a pound (two at most) of Bay Bridge. After My Prospero’s 3rd in the Champion Stakes, beaten only a half length and a nose by Bay Bridge and Adayar. If not rating My Prospero that highly then surely you’ve pretty much got to bring Bay Bridge’s rating down as well as Luxembourg’s. As Luxembourg beat Bay Bridge by only a half length in the Tatts Gold Cup. Unless you think Bay Bridge’s Champion Stakes victory was much worse than the Tatts Gold Cup runner-up run?The Champion Stakes was My Prospero’s final run of last season, last two races of 2022 came at 10f. Only run since was 4th over the Lockinge mile. I’d have thought to put My Prospero’s rating down for that would be harsh; as he probably either needed his reappearance and / or (much more likely imo) needs 10f nowadays. Looked badly outpaced at Newbury.
“Outrageous and controversial”, nah.
Obvious and candid, yes.
Value Is EverythingJune 6, 2023 at 21:01 #1650742Being removed from the betting does not always mean a horse is yet a “non-runner”, can be just unlikely to run.
Personally if I were Ben I would not be cursing my luck too much as the likelihood of being paid out @ 50/1 – even if it had won – was low in the first place.
Value Is EverythingJune 6, 2023 at 21:13 #1650743Why wait for the horse to win before telling Ben they won’t be paying out?
why not offer him a price beforehand and let him decide if he wants it or not

June 7, 2023 at 22:39 #1650837The disappointment I feel from Ace Impact being withdrawn is far outweighed by my sheer delight to see Ginger posting here again! Welcome back!!
It was only a £10 bet so it’s no great loss, to be honest it’s lucky I have a £10 deposit limit on that 888 account because if I’d been able to I would certainly have had more on, so if anything I see it as money saved!
Also, it’s not like my tremendous foresight was robbed, it was just a proactive quick-check of oddschecker to see if there were any prices to steal as soon as the French Derby finished, which on this occasion there were. 888 may have won this battle, but the war is still very much in its formative years.
June 8, 2023 at 13:54 #1650863Obviously we’ve all heard of the palpable error rule – and it’s breathtakingly patronising to think anyone here hasn’t – but where ante-post markets are concerned it’s less easy to be hard and fast about what defines one.
You get more variation in immediate reaction from differing firm’s traders for a start.
Having just bolted up, 50/1 certainly looks like a “palp,” but that’s at least partly in relation to everyone else going 8s.
Ace Impact had never been confirmed an intended runner at Sandown and the fact he’s since been taken out means 50/1 obviously doesn’t look “quite” so over generous now.
I’d love it if the horse got supplemented (if possible) back in and went and won it, not only to collect myself, but to see how 888 justified crying “palp!” to Ben over a horse that was never a certain runner and had, in fact, been taken out before getting back in.
As Nathan says, the legitimate time for a bookmaker to discuss palpable error with a punter is before the race – and while the horse is still in it – not after it’s won or been taken out and they’ve trousered the punter’s cash.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 8, 2023 at 21:21 #1650889Have this horrible feeling we will have horses dodging each other till the either the Irish champion or the juddmonte. Let’s have Luxembourg, bay bridge,my prosperous, vadeni, ace impact, adayar and a rodin for York. Doubt both coolmore horses will go but that would be a stallion defining race. I’d fancy Luxembourg to win at the curragh but ace impact at York. I can’t see a rodin and ace impact meeting till the arc and if it comes up very soft a rodin will head to the breeders Cup then either hong kong or maybe even the Japan cup. Can’t be arsed with horses avoiding each other. Robs the public of great spectacles.
June 8, 2023 at 21:39 #1650890Sadly, I’m all about the betting, so I CAN be completely arsed with horses avoiding each other.
In fact, when I’ve had an ante-post bet, the more horses swerving the one I’ve backed the better!
But in this instance the one I’ve backed is swerving the race – serves me right for my shocking attitude but FML! nonetheless.

June 30, 2023 at 18:36 #1653916I’d be less confident about Emily Upjohn taking this if Paddington turns up.
June 30, 2023 at 19:22 #1653920I think Paddington is really decent, still improving, and I reckon Emily Upjohn would struggle to give him the weight-for-age.
