    Excellent race

    Paddington very tough

Wonder if they’d consider trying the breeders cup turf with him as his last race before inevitable retirement

1m4f round a bend would suit him well I reckon

You’d think races like the juddmonte and Irish champion will be om the radar

That was good contest and although Paddington won it certainly had to fight for it against Emily Upjohn.

Glad I played safe and took the small profit backing both

Emily is better at 12f so I wouldn’t write it in stone that Paddington is the next coming

    What next for Paddington?

Here are the stats from 2000 for races targeted by runners from the Sandown Ecplise in the 12 months after the race.

The York Juddmonte is the obvious choice but not the only one by any means.

“The York Juddmonte is the obvious choice….”

AOB seemed to be favouring the Sussex Stakes in his post-race interview.

I know he has improved but he must have been one of the biggest certainties to have ever set foot on a racecourse when he won a handicap at Naas off 97. ;-)

He always deceives, had that bagged easily, step him up drop him back, dont think it matters, he wont be passed

And ian in regards to a poor race i really just meant turnout and it was only a two horse race

Fair enough, ham – I wasn’t on at the 6/1 but I chanced a bit of 2/1 before the final decs and had a proper bet at 11/10 once he was declared.

No one deserves a medal for backing a short-priced winning favourite, but I’m happy enough tonight.

He’s no Frankel – more a Giants Causeway – but that Paddington has quality and a terrific attitude.

He’ll not be going to York as august rodin is pencilled in for that. Going to be tricky keeping them and Luxembourg apart. I can see Paddington in the arc if the ground is decent. A Rodin breeders Cup then Japan Cup. Would love to see both stay in training but ain’t gonna happen.

Spencer made the race by going a good gallop but for me I still think he should drop back in trip – he only just beat a proper 12F horse today and she was the closest at the finish so I am not sure how he would fair against specialist 10F horses.

In any case, they have now checked the 10F box and whilst that invariably means races like the Juddmonte/Irish Champion/Champion Stakes come into play I do really think they should be giving him a much deserved rest now (Ryan’s comment of “I don’t think we saw the best of him” may indicate he might be feeling the effects of having 5 races this season) then you could bring him back for the Moulin/QE2/Breeders Cup Mile.

As he is not unbeaten they can always bring him back next year (where he will be a year stronger) and target all the 10F races and maybe look at going 12F in say an Arc (I really don’t see him being a 12F horse personally and I doubt a 12F G1 win is high on ‘The Boys’ agenda breeding wise for him).

A great race to watch and thank god the 2 genuine G1 horses showed up and gave us a great finish and showed that the other two were out of their depth today at this level.

If they want to win the International Stakes, they run the unbeatable bear.

But if they want to have a punt on getting a 1m2f Group 1 into Auguste Rodin they’ll probably finish second to Mostahdaf.

The blue duffle coat will not be beaten – he’s Giants Causeway all over again.

Only with marmalade and a red hat.
