Brilliant tipping BigG, you got it right and I got it wrong.
No excuses with Skardu, seemed to run his race although did Doyle take it a bit easier and just got done for third?
Probably my imaination.
Too Darn Hot disappointing again, is it because he just hasn’t trained on or has it – like some here pointed out beforehand – just come too soon after York? But even though below his two year old form and Magna Grecia well below his best too – struggling from an early stage… imo Newmarket form (Dewhurst and 2000 G) would not have been good enough to beat Phoenix anyway. I said earlier POS was possibly flattered by proximity to TDH and MG. That seems not the case now, but I think it’s more about the Hills horse’s improvement. Big horses can progress at a greater rate than smaller ones and POS is certainly a BigGG.
Also – in hindsight – percentage-wise the Charlie Hills yard had a poor year in 2018, possible had the whole yard been in A1 condition Phoenix Of Spain may well have shown better form than he actually did as a two year old. Currently 2019 strike rate is better than any of the previous five, which also suggests Battaash will have a better 2019……..…………Bloody Hell, why didn’t I back the Big Grey, BigG? LOL
Value Is EverythingMay 25, 2019 at 16:46 #1441410Thanks for that Ginger
It’s been a good day for me as I also
had a good return on Beatboxer at 20s. There wasn’t a thread for the race,
but I did nap him in Jac’s and Bob’s competitions (just in case someone
thinks I’m gilding the lily). It makes up for the dire weekend I had last
week
May 25, 2019 at 17:24 #1441461Crikey Graham you’re on top form and fighting out the spoils with Lyla for Best Nap in my compy unless anyone has gone one better this Saturday. I’ll be totting up later.
you must be somewhere near the top if not our new leader.
Hoping Qabala comes good for me in Gingers comp tomorrow, what a shocker with both Magna, TDH and Calyx failing today..TDH definitely needs further he eas staying on on nicely to POS
not his race today..he IS a good horse but over further. So while you clean up at the bookies Graham I’m off to clear up lawn cuttings..

May 25, 2019 at 17:48 #1441517Cheers Jac, and good luck with Qabala tomorrow, you spotted her long before
it was obvious to the rest of us that she was a bit special. I think she will
turn around the form with Hermosa, she was a bit unlucky at Newmarket and will
have every chance at the Curragh which I think will suit her
May 25, 2019 at 18:35 #1441522WD bigG and super work with Beatboxer too.
May 25, 2019 at 18:39 #1441523Cheers Green
May 25, 2019 at 20:14 #1441565At least I was right that the hype about TDH was just no use
In the end he will turn out as a 2y who hasn’t trained on, so comments like “read a form book” from GT appear to have been quite absurd to me..
But also I must admit I was wrong with Calyx, he’s not the superstar I saw in him, and the excuses from Gosden about the ground etc seem so pathetic
But this is a red thread this season and also the last one, as Gosden’s talk is even cheaper than AOB’s
May 25, 2019 at 20:58 #1441572Ah, and not to forget:
As I anticipated earlier TDH’s juice will be quite unpopular now, but those who gave a 2y a place as a stallion without knowing anything about him haven’t deserved better, have they
?!May 25, 2019 at 23:29 #1441593We can all learn from reading the form book Hein.
Who was it that Too Darn Hot beat so easily in the Champagne Stakes – Phoenix Of Spain… And who beat Phoenix Of Spain (not as easily as TDH did) in the Vertem Futurity – Magna Grecia)… And what did Magna Grecia do on 3yo reappearance – won the 2000 Guineas… And who beat Magna Grecia on his start before Doncaster? Persian King, and what has Persian King gone on to do? Won the French 2000 Guineas… Not forgetting, what has Phoenix Of Spain done today? Won the Irish Guineas.
Too Darn Hot wasn’t an over-hyped two year old, the form (bar Too Darn Hot himself) is working out very well. You could also look up what Anthony Van Dyck did both previous to the Dewhurst and also this season.
Granted TDH isyet to show the same form at three, there is a not insignificant chance he has not trained-on. ie A chance he hasn’t made the 7 lbs of natural progression needed for his rating to remain the same at 3 as it was at 2. But the figures are not insurmountable, there’s a fair chance the trip and the way the race went at York meant he was below form… And a chance the race today came too soon after York.
However, with the winner today improving quite a bit… Although TDH was an excellent 2yo, he will need to show a career best in order to beat Phoenix Of Spain at Ascot.
Value Is EverythingMay 25, 2019 at 23:42 #1441596Yeah Ginger, but TDH’s probably few remaining fans will probably have to wait long for that
As I wrote earlier, you try to calculate nearly everything with all your form books and your various savors in nearly every race, but hopefully racing is much more than this, and i must admit I’m quite glad about it
May 25, 2019 at 23:50 #1441603TDH ran a very good race, it might just be a case of another horse developing into a superstar, no?
Saying he has not trained on sounds harsh, hein, my two cents.
May 26, 2019 at 00:14 #1441610If you think so Viktors, feel free!
In our western world thoughts are still free, but if your Boris will box you out, who knows for how long
?May 26, 2019 at 00:49 #1441620@hein
I honestly don’t know why Gosden ran TDH in this race he obviously needs further and can possibly be given one more chance to prove himself but over a longer distance.
He ran a good enough race today but he’s not a Champion. Also, according to what Ginger said… Phoenix Of Spain has progressed in leaps and bounds so….
where does that leave Magna Grecia- winner of a sub standard Guineas where if Persian King had turned up he would have romped home.Frankie and Johnny G left with egg on their faces today and all their plans scrambled
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 26, 2019 at 01:37 #1441623Previously, in every race Too Darn Hot has delivered a fine turn of foot. Even at York the way he was the only horse in the field to close (and to do so quickly – perhaps too quickly) on the leader, before paying the price for that effort… But that turn of foot was sadly lacking and just wasn’t the same horse today – not only in form but the way he went through the race. Make no mistake, the speed/sectionals that have been previously measured (they’re facts, not opinions) are those of a miler… Horses that need middle-distances just aren’t that quick. More I look at it the more I think he hadn’t recovered from York, or the travelling somehow affected him.
Value Is EverythingMay 26, 2019 at 01:48 #1441625Exactly Jac, Gosden must be a bit sick in his mind by now, at least I must say he can’t come to a clear conclusion
. He ruined Cracksman’s career, even nobody else likes to hear this, he fu.cked up TDH, and he sent Calyx in the completely wrong race, so I really don’t know what’s going on under his filthy hat
May 26, 2019 at 02:04 #1441628If only you were Calyx, Cracksman and Too Darn Hot’s trainer, Hein; you could’ve done so much better.
