Have had a few pence ew on the mighty Warringah today. Know the race isn’t for front runners, and the draw is important etc but couldn’t resist the 40/1, and I don’t think he’s got too much weight ! What a fantastic name for a MC winner if he does pull it off.Would have been interesting to see where Munsef would have finished in the Ebor given that he had the same weight as Warringah. Not good news to hear that Daffodil has only got 3 legs at the moment, but her price doesn’t seem to be coming in much because of it. So, I’ve got a geriatric [Munsef], horse that may not run [Warringah] and a cripple so far….

G3 H’cap 2406metres
Crime Scene is virtually assured of a place in the Melbourne Cup. About 14 of the others have an MC entry, and are hoping to win this by a couple of lengths to get a penalty to lift them into the Cup.

Will need to be at his best to topple Efficient, viewed, Speed Gifted Alcopop and the luckless Master O’reilly.
October 23, 2009 at 14:26 #254920Understand that Vision and Power could go well in the Cox Plate if the rain comes and El Segundo could surprise if back to the horse he was
. It’s a ‘Dead Track’ at the moment..

winning the Geelong Cup. It would be a good one, with a chestnut mare with white socks in the sunshine. Anyway, couldn’t get one, but you can watch a video of the last couple of furlongs here:-
http://src.racingvictoria.net.au/spring … fault.aspx
With her 0.5kg penalty she is 31st in the list, and likely to line up. Next deccies will be on
Monday
, and that should make things look a bit clearer. I like the way she mowed them down on the outside – that’s the way I envisage the winner of the MC doing it.
Munsef
and
Warringah
are exercising together. Don’t really understand why – surely you can work a horse well enough by itself?
Changingoftheguard
still has an abscess in a hind leg, but the swelling has subsided, even if it hasn’t burst.
All of tomorrow morning’s card is available on betfair, if you ain’t got atr.
4.30am 3yo G2 2040m
– This must be their version of the Dante.
I recognise the namesCarrara
and
Extra Zero
.
5.40am 2500m G2
A couple of these are guaranteed a MC spot and a few others are trying to win and get a penalty. Foremost of the latter is probably
Hissing Sid
.
Although she is guaranteed a MC spot,
Ready To Lift
is still battling for it as if she doesn’t run well she will be retired to the paddocks.
6.30am Cox Plate
Australasia’s premier WFA race. There is only one guaranteed frontrunner, the outsider
Sir Slick
, and a decision will be made by the vet at 9.30pm BST as to whether it will be allowed to participate. Will rather affect how the race is run.
October 23, 2009 at 16:21 #254940They seem to use numbers in addition to the penetrometer ones.
3 is good
4 and 5 are dead
Their policy is to water the track so that it is dead. But it will normally dry out to become good during the afternoon.
October 23, 2009 at 18:46 #254962According to my Ozzie chum it’s a tight track and usually results in a sprint finish; says Whobegotyou is a very small horse albeit with a big heart…
October 23, 2009 at 19:23 #254966I see Betfair is streaming all the races live, starting 2.10am UK time:

OZ bookie Mark Read comments:
HARD TO LOOK PAST WHOBE
As racing’s focus turns to Moonee Valley and the Cox Plate, IASbet.com bookmaker Mark Read says you shouldn’t overlook the obvious when it comes to assessing the race.
"Whobegotyou ($3) has run at the track four times for four wins, he won the Yalumba Stakes last start and is a deserving favourite."
Read suggests sticking to the local hopes with Heart Of Dreams ($5.50), Zipping ($17), and El Segundo ($15) all creating interest.
"El Segundo has won the race before, Zipping was second last year and Heart Of Dreams has been running great races in all the key lead ups."
Bart Cummings’ three year old So You Think ($11) has been one of the better backed runners and as we learnt last week, ignore Bart at your peril!
The Schweppes Stakes (1200m) should be a fantastic race according to Read.
"This is a Group One field in a Group Two race, Lucky Secret ($3.30) and Apache Cat ($3.60) must be respected with fantastic Moonee Valley records, but Light Fantastic ($13) and Danleigh ($9) represent the Value, Danleigh won the Manikato Stakes over the same distance at the Valley a month ago and should again be prominent"
October 24, 2009 at 05:40 #255019So Bart Cummings has done it again..with a front running three year old!
October 24, 2009 at 05:53 #255020Yes, but he can’t keep it up, can he?
Probably puts the kibosh on my Roman Emperor bets.
Actually had a winning race, which surprised me after my non-runners etc. (The Caulfield Cup turned out okay as well last week.)
Frontrunning
Starspangledbanner
won the Caulfield Guineas. Trusting lame. Denman had what has been described as a torrid trip. I’ve seen a video of the finish, and I think it is
So You Think
who is finishing quite well on the outside.

LOL. Yeah the old fella strikes again. An amazing trainer. No doubt that he can pull something out of the bag on Cup day too. This stable on song is lethal at this time of year.
commentator – "257 Gr1 victories Bart"
Bart – "I’m getting a feel for them"October 24, 2009 at 06:12 #255023

My stable connections really fancy Alverta who has been set for the next. Estee and Moment In Time are good chances in spite of the poor draws.

Lee Freedman just sounded very doubtful about Speed Gifted running in the MC.
October 24, 2009 at 09:01 #255032Bart Cummings looks as if he would be a good baddy in Home and Away. He’s got that ‘get off my land or i’ll flamin shoot ya’ kinda look. Anyway he won the Cox plate so good on him.
I’ve taken a risk on Changingoftheguard. Obviously his price went up because the bandages are still to be removed and what have you. If he gets a run he will need blinkers though.
October 24, 2009 at 11:22 #255056By the way, Gerald, thanks for putting up that radio link; it was great to listen to it live [however, it has left me pretty tired today!]
October 25, 2009 at 08:45 #255232I already knew that
Red Ruler
was out, and that
Ready To Lift
was on trial. She is now retired.
Whobegotyou
strained his back or whatever yesterday.
I don’t mind those so much, but it is a little galling to find out that
Light Vision
is out as well.
[edit: also forgot that Ista Kareem had the thumps yesterday, so he’ll only run at the vet’s discretion. (I think it was IK, might be another horse.)]
It looks like I’m reduced to having a saver if Efficient wins or Roman Emperor places, or an okay win if Roman Emperor wins or there is an unlikely European victory.
It is also annoying to find out that
Capecover
is still trying to get into the Melbourne Cup by trying to win the Bendigo, after the trainer said he would give up on it. Have decided to ignore the horse (again).
Maybe it is just because I don’t get to see much actual horse racing, but I was rather taken with
Leica Ding
‘s victory in the Geelong Cup, so I’ve added £8.47 @ 13.5 in the Place market to my earlier listed Win bet (page 9 of this thread, not of my bets).
