You’ll have to get hold of a radio with pictures Moe. Warringah is going to take up his Melbourne Cup engagement.

(There is also a possibility that Changingoftheguard will as well, but there is no confirmation of that.)

    He’s about 90 on betfair (win market, 13.5 (12.5/1) place market(1,2,3)). I don’t know about bookie prices.

First Tuesday in November, which is easy to remember as it is always election date in USA as well. Tuesday 3rd November.

I’ll dig out a couple of articles, so that you can see I haven’t jumped to a conclusion. I can dig out the recent article, but I’d like to post an earlier one as well, but I’ll have to do a bit of hunting around for it.

In other news from Sandown, Sydney-based trainer Chris Waller was on hand to see his new stable acquisition, the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained Warringah, gallop for the first time and said he was looking forward to having his first runner in the Emirates Melbourne Cup on 3 November.

“It’s very exciting. When we bought him, the idea was to set him for the BMW and the Sydney Cup next year but he did everything right during his quarantine in England and since he arrived here and he’s earned his chance in the Melbourne Cup,” Waller explained.

“He’s a lovely big horse, a good mover and I can’t wait for him to have a serious gallop,” Waller said.

Couldn’t find quite what I was looking for on Warringah, so here’s an article on Changingoftheguard instead.

    Hayes happy with international hopeful

    12 Oct 2009
    By Tony Bourke – racingvictoria.net.au

Hall of Fame trainer David Hayes was pleasantly surprised when he had his first look in nearly three months at his stable’s latest acquisition Changingoftheguard at Sandown on Sunday morning.

‘’I’m shocked at how well he looks, particularly after such a long trip, he must be a good doer to arrive like that,’’ Hayes said.

The former Aidan O’Brien-trained Changingoftheguard arrived in Melbourne on Saturday with Mourilyan, Bankable, Munsef and Warringah after a 40 hour plus journey from England via Copenhagen, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.

Hayes had last seen Changingoftheguard in July when he was on a “shopping” trip to England and Ireland in search of an Emirates Melbourne Cup hope for this year or next.

“After he was unluckily beaten in the Ebor (in August) I didn’t think I’d be able to buy him then he failed in the English St. Leger and I put in an offer,’’ Hayes said.

Now Hayes will decide in the next few days whether to press on for this year’s Melbourne Cup with Changingoftheguard or run him in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on 31 October and wait until next year’s 150th anniversary of the great race.

‘’I’m keeping my options open and we’ll just see how he does over the next few days but we’ll keep paying up for him,’’ he said.

Betfair Customer Services 16 Oct 06:20
Following its landmark deal with the VRC earlier today, Betfair has announced a further deal with television network, SKY Racing, to stream the best of Victoria’s Spring Racing Carnival live online to Betfair’s 1.4 million UK and Irish customers.

The deal will see Betfair stream the entire card at six spring meetings including; tomorrow’s Caulfield Cup, the Cox Plate, three days of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington and the Sandown Classic from Betfair Park.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with SKY and delighted that we’ve been able to complete the deal in time to stream coverage of tomorrow’s Caulfield Cup. Both parties have worked around the clock to ensure that we can take Australia’s best racing to an international racing audience,” said Betfair’s CEO, Andrew Twaits.

“The deal allows the racing industry to export its product to a global network of dedicated racing punters and takes a significant step towards putting Australian racing on the world stage.

“We know our international customers have a thirst for Australian racing and the streaming of Victoria’s spring racing is a springboard for our future plans to stream racing from all three codes to our overseas punters.”

This is available via our live video site – http://livevideo.betfair.com/ or by clicking on any live video buttons/banners. The streaming of these races is available to watch for free to logged-in Betfair customers with funds in their Betfair wallet.

You will need to transfer funds to your AUS wallet to be able to place bets on Australian markets.

Rained overnight. Track is currently in the good, good-to-soft range.

Walked the course yesterday – topsoil was damp and had some give but still firm beneath.

Steering clear of the Cup today.

Wide awake and awaiting the Caulfield Cup. I guess I’m the only one though.

    No, I’m awake as well.

I could have a totally green result if I betted another £35 on the race, but I’m going to live dangerously.

That would be Allez Wonder I guess? Good luck. I liked it last week and didn’t back it at around 40/1.

Does look a good race for the two Euros if their travels haven’t taken a toll.

Bart Cummings strikes again. The horse looked great in the pre parade and was given the perfect ride. Viewed another major for Bart. 57kg in the MC already and probably a 2kg penalty for that.

Yes, the weight penalty for Viewed would make Roman Emperor the favoured horse, wouldn’t it?

Cima De Triomphe seemed to finish out of the first 8.

Not sure whether there is a back up plan to get into the Melbourne Cup. Maybe they could try running him in the M(a?)cKinnon?

Kirklees just fell out of the gate, and lost more ground down the back straight.

I’m reduced to relying upon my Roman Emperor place bet to win back most of my win market stakes.

Under the amended rules, in force since September 26, jockeys can hit their mounts in a forehand manner on only five occasions non-consecutively before the 100m.

I suppose that is to be expected when an ex-convict is desperate for success.

The jockey and trainer met for the very first time ever in the paddock. I wonder whether he’ll keep the ride.

Stewards went mental dishing out punishments for overuse of the whip in Caulfield Cup. No surprises really.

    CDT stopped dead. Remarkable.

I forgot to mention on the Cheltenham Festival for Simpletons thread that one of the yearly traditions is the handing out of bans to the Irish jockeys after the opening Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Daffodil is receiving antibiotics for a cut and swollen knee.

"The leg’s quite swollen, there’s a bit of skin off and some bruising to the bone and the vet’s given her some treatment," Gray told NZPA.

"But we’ve got a fortnight to get over it. She’s run fourth in a Caulfield Cup so she’s got to be a chance to run in the money.

"Will the Melbourne Cup be any harder? We’re here and we’re going to have a go. If she can run in the first six or seven we’ll be very happy."

bruising to the bone doesn’t sound too good to me (in the context of running in 16 days time.)

Waller’s original plan after purchasing Warringah was to set him for the Sydney autumn.

But the gelding arrived in Australia from England in such good order, plans changed to include a tilt at this year’s Melbourne Cup.

Waller inspected Warringah last week and will make another trip to Melbourne from Sydney this week to see him through a more solid workout.

"He came through his first week in great order and showed he had got over the trip," Waller said.

"He will have a serious gallop later in the week.

"Until we see him under a bit of pressure it’s hard to tell if he has done as well as we think."

Warringah was formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute with whom Waller has been in constant contact over the past few weeks.

"Sir Michael has been a great help and if Warringah happens to win the Cup, a lot of the credit is down to him," Waller said.

"It’s very exciting to think we have a Melbourne Cup runner on our hands."
