Mike 007, while that article may have yesterdays date on it, the piece quotes O’Brien from last month and I suspect it was written well before the recent rumour.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Why do they post up the out of date news though Steve, it’s a very poor show

I am not sure Nathan, I see little point in quoting what the trainer said last month. He did say last week that Saxon Warrior was coming along “Lovely” but obviously even that could be out of date.

I read somewhere last week that Cracksman may start out in the Sheema Classic but that race was run three weeks ago and he wasn’t in it.

No bet on Expert required for the Guineas after that. It wasn’t a bad effort and that was his first run on what is still good to soft ground.
It’s a shame he couldn’t come back and show us something exciting but there you go, it happens.

Expert Eye drifted and I’m sure Stoute would not of killed him in training to get him 110% ready with the Gunieas a few weeks away more a case of a stepping stone, he looked well beat before staying on so it wasn’t end of the world stuff, I think that the 7f would be James Garfield’s optimum trip and he’s not a bad horse. I wouldn’t be backing Expert Eye for the guineas but wouldn’t rule him out of maybe the St James Palace stakes providing he takes another step forward in the Guineas

I think that’s debatable, Austin. Once again he pulled like an absolute train, any chance he had was lost in the first furlong and a half. I thought it was actually a very good effort to get up for second pulling as he did.

If they can get him settled – which should be a lot easier in the Guineas, with a bigger field and likely a stronger pace – I think he will come a lot for that run today.

Looks doubtful he has the talent to win at this stage, but with bubbles being burst left right and center, I think 16/1 is a fair price for him to hit the frame.

40/1 on Gustav however is looking better by the day.

Expert Eye looked very frantic today with his head not steady at all throughout the race. I was banking on him for the Guineas and was expecting him to win by at least couple of lengths. Now not sure whom to back on 5th May:

Roaring Lion – Flopped in Craven and lost by 9 lengths to the winner.
Expert Eye – Ran like a dud in Dewhurst and not much improvement in new season.
Masar – Had a great win in Craven but not sure if he is a classic horse.
Saxon Warrior – Has only beaten Roaring Lion. What is his credibility?
Elarqam – No idea how he wintered…will go straight to the Guineas.
Gustav Klimt – Good win in Leapordsdown after a long absence. Will start as favorite.
US Navy Flag – Dewhurst winner and have done nothing wrong as a juvenile. He will be my pick for the Guineas.

US Navy Flag was a million times worse than Expert Eye on his seasonal debut. O’Brien said he’d come on a ton but he needs a lot more than that to turn around the form with Gustav Klimt who is much less exposed and entitled to come on for his first run of the season as well.

Expert Eye was OK today, pulled way too hard and was outpaced before keeping on. The big problem for me is the heap the first four finished in. James Garfield wouldn’t be Classic material for me.

The other factor is that today’s winner and third are not really milers and are probably more 6F to 7F horses, which may have allowed Expert Eye to close up later in the race. I think Expert Eye can come on from this but the question is whether it will be enough. I’d tend to think not myself but I would take him before US Navy Flag.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Underwhelmed so far by this years crop. This looks like Klimt’s for the taking if Saxon Warrior bypasses. Im on Klimt at 7s but was hoping that something would show up to help force his price out a bit so i could go in again on the day at something like 7/2 but he’s looking like being a well backed 7/4 shot come Guineas weekend at the moment.

What price would Mendelsshon be for this ?

1 x G2 winner & 5 x G3 winners have come out of that Breeders Cup race. That includes Masar and James Garfield.

Massive price for USNF if you can forgive his run on heavy ground

EE would have to be 80% at least, Guineas is only two weeks away, and he just wasn’t there.
Stoute’s do normally come on for the run but some have been running deplorably, they may be a bit behind a lot of other stables which would explain the drift to an extent.

O’Brien said: “I think it was a straightforward enough decision for Ryan – he’s always been fascinated by the Kentucky Derby.”

Confirmed hes heading to the kentucky derby instead of the here

The Racing Post gave Roaring Lion a rating of 97 for his run in the Craven and that is 21 lbs below his best mark with them.

A stone and a half off your best is a poor effort and even Gosden’s Foundation, who never won another race, ran 11 lbs better than Roaring Lion, on 108, in his Craven defeat.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I had Expert Eye onside for the Guineas but whilst not terminal it was certainly not a hugely encouraging effort.
Improvement could be seen by better fitness, settling better and (probably more importantly) faster ground.
However, many of his rivals can probably say the same.

16s is about right now I think, haven’t written him off and the performance did remind me a little of Kings Best getting beat in his trial before a stunning win in the Guineas (beating Giants Causeway). Longshot that happens but not impossible.

Also, small point this, but what was the noseband all about? He has never worn that before and I would have SMS as having less than 5% of his runners in a sheepskin noseband…just didn’t look right.

In terms of Ratings Expert Eye has run a much better trial than some of the other contenders.

Someone said in the thread that he had flopped again but Racing Post figures suggest otherwise.

Expert Eye was awarded 109 for his Greenham run and while that assumes that James Garfield and Hey Gaman have run to something like their best, something we won’t know for sure until they have another run, it means that Expert Eye has run just 7 lbs below his best RPR of 116 and that is surely nothing to be worried about given it was his comeback, he pulled too hard, and the stable are largely off the boil.

When you consider Roaring Lion looked as slow as a boat in the Craven, it makes no sense that he is the same odds as Expert Eye now. Equally, US Navy Flag has 15 lengths to make up with Gustav Klimt and is surely exposed, plus he has to prove stamina.

Expert Eye looked in the Greenham that he’d get the mile, particularly if settling better and on better ground.

I would take 7/4 Expert Eye in a three way book with Roaring Lion and US Navy Flag.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Gosden has now said he doesn’t like the idea of the Guineas for Roaring Lion and reckons the colt might go Dante and then French Derby. You can take it as read that he won’t line up at Newmarket and I suspect he’s a bust myself.

Sporting Bet go Roaring Lion 10/1 for the 2000 Guineas. For God’s sake get your act together firms.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
