Artemis is spot on in saying there is a good story in this. But, will any journalist have the balls to write it?
We are very fortunate at TRF to have a good number of journalists and racing professional as members (and a growing number who "read only"). Time for one of them to step forward and take up the challenge.
"compliant racing media" Very well put. Our racing media are on the payroll of the mass bookmakers in their search to snare mug punters.
BFSP should be the official SP!
Unbelievable to hear of Ladbrokes barring a favorite backer. The first commandment of bookmaking is still in use… thou shall not win.
Why does mark not sit at home and use Betfair? Surely the extra margin and less hassle would be a huge bonus.
I think it was pathetic way to fill a void between the adverts.
I feel ill just viewing this thread.
The ONLY good thing about ATR is the red button service. Being able to opt out of the advert brainwashing and cliché ridden pundits and presenters is great. I would pay to be able to do this on RUK.
I understand the decision to boycott ATR on the grounds of bookmaker marketing but I think RUK are progressing quickly down the same route.
The creeping growth in RUK adverts has stepped up a few gears and we are at an unacceptable level. This is compounded by the need for RUK to give airtime to the reps from the bookmakers paying for the adverts. These mouthpieces spout nothing but PR rubbish and add nothing to the coverage.
The difference between free-to-air and the subscription service very small and I cannot see how RUK can justify the subs.
I’m surprised by the base figure of -10% for RPR over time. Last time I looked into this I think it was about -22% for RPR and about -25% for Timeform. The "best" commercially available ratings are showing -3% for the last year. Anything close to break even at SP is good given the rigged system we now have.
katabatic really does put this debate into context;
"I’d rather be slapped on the nose than galloped down a steep hill on rock hard ground !"
The point will probably be lost on most visitors to this thread.
the welsh wizard, spot on.
Too many TV racing people have very strong opinions on things they have only experienced by watching pictures.
marble, if you have any respect for TRF do the right thing and delete the comment.
Giving an unruly horse a slap to get it to behave and be safe to all around is a key part of equine handling.
The really disturbing incident at Brighton today was a lot more serious and will have consequences for the sport long term.
Mmmmmm.
I can’t remember the last time I had a bet with a bookmaker. Must be at least four years. Get Betfair Mobile on a decent phone or PDA and you are miles better off when you go racing. The cost is insignificant compared to the convenience and the better odds.
£12.99 is great value but would be even better if there were no adverts and bookmaker reps polluting the service.
Seagull, a lot of us were totally opposed to your friends method of doubling up on favorites and are probably still just waiting for the train crash to happen. However there many very well be other factors coming into play that we have not fully recognized. Since Betfair has become the biggest opinion poll for UK racing the markets are becoming a lot more efficient. As a result of this more fancied horses are probably winning than in previous years.
I don’t know the answer to your question but there must be a better method than doubling up.
What are the level stake returns from the 3 options listed?
The name of the sport is horse racing.
