I’ve not seen any comment on the forum but I can’t believe that everybody is happy with the 30% hike in the Setanta monthly subscription.
I guess most of us on here pay this primarily for the RUK but are the losses that Setanta have been posting as a result of their large fees for purchasing Prem footy and the IPL etc going to make our pleasures more expensive without any visible enhancement of the coverage of what we are really watching for?

June 20, 2008 at 20:38 #169526Yeah seen this on last bill. I’m going to cancel my subscription. Think it’s too greedy. As for the football side of things, managed to get all football matches on website http://www.pcfootie.com for only £7.00 a year and even get the Saturday afternoon matches on it so not worth the extra just for horse racing and racing replays.. they’re not that good.
June 20, 2008 at 20:53 #169530Could not agree more. I paid for a yearly subscription last yaer and paid the going rate of £180.
Imagine my disgust when I got my credit card bill and found they had taken £180 again.
I phoned them and asked why when it was less to pay monthly and they told me that it was what I had signed up to. I said I wanted to cancel my subs and get a refund to which they told me if I cancelled I lost all my money and would get no refund.
I am in the process of writing a letter to them as I could get no sense from their so called customer service agents.
As anybody else experenced this. If so I would like to know that I am not alone.
I shall be cancelling after the service I gotJune 20, 2008 at 21:12 #169532RUK was £20 when I first got it. Now I get Premiership football, most of the big fights from Vegas, lots of US golf as well as RUK too for £12.99. As you can tell, I’m fuming.
June 20, 2008 at 22:10 #169548How many of them did you ask for DJ?

Whilst it’s clear what you mean, it is still out of order the way RUK change the rules mid-way through contracts.
I too signed up for RUK ages ago and was told it was OK to have it on a 2nd box. A few months later they were charging an extra fiver a month (I know it’s not much) for it because I might be a pub (same amount of beer consumed but less customers).
June 20, 2008 at 22:20 #169550£12.99 is great value but would be even better if there were no adverts and bookmaker reps polluting the service.
June 21, 2008 at 17:47 #169659count yourselves all lucky i live on Northside of Dublin city and have NTL, i subscribed for setanta was supposed to get 8 channels i only get 3 the golf the one that shows the football and some crap usa channel i dont get racing UK or any of the Celtic Tv’s etc…their excuse?, i dont live in a certain area (DDN Area) no ans as to when or if i will ever get it, i asked for a reduction in price etc…no joy, but i really wanted it for the football so it’s put up with it or nothing!!!!

I shall be cancelling after the service I gotI don’t understand your issue NI ~ if you signed a contract, then you can’t complain unless something has changed for the worse; complaining that you are getting exactly what you paid for seems rather odd, tbh.
June 21, 2008 at 18:29 #169668okay, i just read my last few virginmedia letters and it seems they’ve upped the monthly charge to £42 from £40 for phone/broadband/tv including atr and setanta pack
i’ve just reg’d for ebilling which knocks a quid off of it, so, it’s now £41 for everything – a cup of tea per day or less than the cost of the rp each day
i know many people can’t get virginmedia cable services but compared to what i see and hear about satellite, its a bargain
now, if only the gits would change their bandwidth strangulation policy when you download over a certain amount from filesharing sites – unlimited means unlimited !
June 21, 2008 at 19:26 #169671Apparently if you tightwads want to save a few quid then phone Setanta up, say you are going to cancel because of the price increase and the credit crunch and they will then offer you six months for £7.50 a month.
June 21, 2008 at 22:57 #169680Just checked my statement and Setanta only took out £9.99 at the beginning of June.
Hopefully this will not change to £12.99 at the beginning of July…….
June 22, 2008 at 12:27 #169726On Sky over here, Setanta is €19.99 (£15.78 at today’s rates) per month plus an extra €2.99 per month for the box upstairs. I haven’t heard anything about it going up though.
June 22, 2008 at 19:41 #169779Hello,
Am I missing something?
My Setatnta & ATR and RUK come with my Virgin contract. It ain’t gone up, nor have i been notified it is going up.
I must start reading my junk mail, reading my e-mails that look uninteresting and check my bank statements…
Commence filling my house with dim bulbs and save the earth, but render me f****** blind, unable to read the calorie content of my next tin of gruel..
Put all my s*** of the day in a bag or box and call it a compost pit. Where in fact it is a bag or box of S*** that is of no use to man, creature or plant.
Read the Points value of my tins of beer, and chastize myself for exceeding 452 points again, and falling of the sofa (not real leather may I add, but a steer that I am confidently informed commited suicide).
And, lastly but not least save any whale I come across in the Northern England area, steering it away from vices, alcohol, drugs and assist it seek out and attain a God fearing life, and convince the blubbering creature the Conservative Partry is the only way..

Basically what I am saying, pay the extra three quid a month, or whatever, relax enjoy life, there really is a mad f***** world out there, don’t join it…
Damn, my Night Nurse and Benalyn has run out…24 hour pharmacist phone number required………..

regards,
doyley
June 23, 2008 at 22:27 #169892Rory,
You miss my point. If you had signed up to a subscrition of any kind for a year, at the end of that year you would at least expect some kind of letter to explain that your year was up and to see if you wished to continue with your subscription.
But to receive nothing and to be charged a rate over what they are advertising is absolutely appalling.
It is the principle of the matter that counts.
I live in Jersey and so am not up on UK customer law and what I would call a sharp practice by Setanta, but I am researching it at the moment and will if required make an official complaint to the necessary authority.

Totally agree with Librettist.
Having watched it free (By virtue of Frankie winning the Derby) for 12 months, I had the option of of paying £9.99 a month or £12.99.
Having done nothing about either, Setanta rang me on Sunday and offered me 6 months at £7.50 with no contract
Anyone who is paying more is being ripped off, no matter how attractive it may seem!June 24, 2008 at 01:11 #169899Rory,

No idea,
they key appears to be legality of the "rolling contract" ~ if you didn’t sign up for an extra year and there is no stipulation in your contract about it rolling over year on year then you have a strong complaint. However if the contract is meant to roll on each year unless cancelled then you are effectively signing up to it each year by not cancelling it at the appropriate time.

True enough. I have Virgin too…. On the flip side, their broadband service is becoming more unreliable ( was excellent in telewest days)
Are Setanta struggling? There was a lot of feeling in the media industry that they grossly overpaid for the premiership rights.
