I think a big part of the reason Ryan Moore landed the Coolmore job was his ability to keep a poker face, he will never be a media person and I think it unfair to expect that of him.
As far as racing being unpopular, you should have been at Newmarket when Frankel won the 2,000 Guineas by 6 lengths, you could hardly move.
It’s horses like Frankel and Sea the Stars that bring people to the races, the jockeys are just there to represent the owners, take instruction from the trainer and go out there and win the race.
I doubt if anyone new to racing could name more than one or two top jockeys who ride horses but could rattle off a whole list of famous racehorses who have won Classics over the years..Ryan Moore stay just the way you are,one of the best.

    Hi Des,
Thanks for your email will get back to you later…=
Here are my three hopefuls for Saturday:-

    2.40 Lingfield …. Date with Destiny (3rd)
    3.10 Lingfield …. Measuring Time (3rd)
    3.25 Ascot …….. HAWKEYETHENOO (NAP) **WINNER** 15/2 :D

backed him when I was at Newmarket on Sunday in the race won by
Pastoral Player and hoping he comes home today for my nap. :D

Reserve ….. 4.10 Haydock …. Bated Breath (Winner)

The compy is going great Des, shame we all went back to 0 points after leaving the other site, but understand why you did this and anyway there’s plenty of racing still to come up to Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday 15th October when you usually end the flat compy.

    Good luck all…Jac

Well done to all who backed Hawkeyethenoo today, what a great win, got my loses back from Newmarket on Sunday, thank you Hawkeye  :D

In my opinion Ryan Moore is anything but dull, he is one of the best jockeys around today and has always been known to be on the quiet side.
This demeanor fits in so well with the Coolmore operation where nothing is given away about the chances of a horse until it has left the stalls. Aidan O’Brien himself is a very quiet and personal man but there is none better at getting a horse fit and ready just in time to harvest those Group races.
So many jockeys are over bullish about their mounts, i.e. Richard Hughes on Memory in the Racing Post on Saturday and punters are hit where it hurts most, others just want to please the crowd like Frankie and he is a great ambassador for the sport, but Ryan Moore is a true horseman and professional through and through
and I wish him well on his way to another Jockey championship in 2011. As long as he brings those horses into the winners enclosure he can be as dull as he likes, the man is a genius.

Will look out for those and best of luck:

    My double tomorrow would be:-

    1.45 Chester … Captain Bertie
    2.55 Chester … Nathaniel

    and for a Lucky 15 I’m adding

    2.20 Chester ….. Distant Memories
    3.50 Goodwood …. Deity

All fingers crossed.. :) Jac

Think the ground was too firm for some of these today, Nathaniel in particular has a very high knee action and will do better on softer, also Distant Memories.
Deity, definitely not suited to Handicaps…. Oh well that’s racing….
    better luck tomorrow

Great 16-1 winner Kburza that doubled with Dubai Queen would have given a pretty fair return.

Newmarket on 2,OOO Guineas day, and any other day of the year.

Seeing some of the best thoroughbreds in the world parade in front of you close enough to touch.

The excitement of watching your horse coming with a late run down the outside to win by a nose.

When you do get in touch, could you say a big thank you from me for all the work she put into the fan club? It was such a special time of my life..I felt as if I was living out some sort of a dream, because I really felt part of what was happening. I just want her to know how grateful I am for that.

I certainly will and you felt exactly as I did.
The first time I saw Dessie I felt so honoured and humble to be in his presence, my daughter was very ill at the time and I gained great strength from him. I have so many pictures, paintings and Royal Doulton ornaments of him and also the Dessie newsletters that Midge used to send us updating us on what he was up to
Also was an avid follower of the great One Man that you mentioned, he was another favourite grey, so sad that we lost him before he could fulfill his potential. I think that there is a photo of Dessie with him, I know there is one of Dessie and Milton the showjumper and also one with Lester Piggot on board. My daughter was lucky enough to sit on Dessie’s back at one of the open days for a photo. That picture taken by his horsebox is a treasured possession I couldn’t believe it when Richard Burridge lifted her up onto him, it was a real tonic and Midge still asks after her even today.
Keep in touch always happy to talk about ‘himself’ and wasn’t it great how they used to get all those cups out on the table at Ab Kettleby and let us all touch them, and all the videos running up in the barn of his great wins and Midge’s dogs getting under everyones feet..lol
Great days…If you do have Midge’s address I’m sure she would love to hear from you herself and if you don’t I could always give it to you but not sure how we exchanged email addresses on here as new to the site. Jacqui x

I also belonged to the Desert Orchid Fanclub and used to go to Ab Kettleby and listen to Dessies Jazz Band in the garden. We all used to queue up to stroke Dessie and Midge used to run a raffle where I was over the moon to win a plait of hair from Dessies mane.
I still have a little contact with Midge (only by Christmas Cards) and sadly she is not in the best of health at the moment and also her partner John is fightening ill health too.
The last time we saw Dessie was after he had gone to David Elsworths new yard at Newmarket, he was at the National Stud holding his last open day 6 weeks before he died. Jim his faithful groom, Janice Coyle and Colin Brown were also there.
We never realised we would never see him again and I had tickled that lovely pink nose for the last time.
Dessie was the most wonderful horse and as you say the Burridges shared him with all of us, there will never be another like him, he is sadly missed, but his memory lives on.

How sad to read today of the passing of the great Sadlers Wells, his big white face a characteristic he passed on to his progeny, and his lovely temperament, he will be sadly missed, one of the great stallions of our time.
His Sire Northern Dancer was the son of Neartic whose dam was sired by non other than Hyperion himself and here’s hoping that Frankel sired by Sadlers Wells own son Galileo can pay the biggest tribute to him on Saturday by winning the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket and going on to achieve greatness just like his grandad.

Forgot to mention my Avatar is New Approach, photo taken at Daleham Hall Stud where he currently stands, just after he had won the Derby. Also standing at the time were Manduro, Dubai Destination, Dubawi, Halling and Singspiel (now sadly departed). The stud went out of their way to make sure we saw all the stallions and of them all Halling was the sweetest, we almost got left behind with him as he was enjoying having his nose tickled.lol
Looking forward to the new flat season and hoping to find lots of winners.

    Hi
I love horses, racing and delving into the pedigrees of the horses that win top races and smaller events. Living close to Newmarket I’m hoping to be cheering Frankel home on Saturday and visit the course as much as I can, especially love the July Meeting and the all Grey horse race held around August every year.
Hoping some of my friends from another site which wasn’t so user friendly will be along soon and looking forward to making new friends too.
    Jacqui :D  x

I think Minella Star pulled up with internal injuries and then died.
He was owned by a small syndicate and they definitely overraced him, he should never have run in the Scottish Grand National, he was a brave and gallant horse who never knew how to run a bad race and will be sadly missed RIP old warrior.xx also thoughts of Regal Heights who also died that day.

I’m really loooking forward to the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday and as Newmarket is my local course will be there to cheer Frankel home. If he runs anything like he did in the Dewhurst last October I think he will turn the Guineas into a procession.
Sadly I’m not a big enough punter to put thousands down on him, but if I was I would..go Frankel. x
