Hey no worries Andygod I was being facetious in the face of your apparent endorsement of a criminal activity!
I take the law very seriously you see
May 7, 2011 at 00:44 #354202I think a big part of the reason Ryan Moore landed the Coolmore job was his ability to keep a poker face, he will never be a media person and I think it unfair to expect that of him.
As far as racing being unpopular, you should have been at Newmarket when Frankel won the 2,000 Guineas by 6 lengths, you could hardly move.
It’s horses like Frankel and Sea the Stars that bring people to the races, the jockeys are just there to represent the owners, take instruction from the trainer and go out there and win the race.
I doubt if anyone new to racing could name more than one or two top jockeys who ride horses but could rattle off a whole list of famous racehorses who have won Classics over the years..Ryan Moore stay just the way you are,one of the best.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 7, 2011 at 01:22 #354205He was pretty effuse after Nics win today so I reckon he must have enjoyed the ride.
May 7, 2011 at 07:39 #354227I really don’t know what you guys expect interviews are a complete waste of time basically to help bulk out the TV coverage you’re never going to hear anything useful either before or after from trainers or jockeys
May 7, 2011 at 09:09 #354238An irrelevance
May 8, 2011 at 13:14 #354436Ryan is a great jockey and as a punter this is what counts, Always trying to win and getting the best out of a horse. He does not like the interview direct after the race and why all people blaming him for this i can’t understand. He is focused on his job and this is the main thing.
May 9, 2011 at 11:31 #354604Only his ill-wishers could call Moore "inarticulate".
Bunkum !
I certainly don’t wish any ill will towards Ryan Moore – not in the least. He is a fine jockey but most certainly not a media friendly one.
One can wish a person all the good will in the world, even if that person is inarticulate or not. Articulacy does not come into it; that is a stupid argument to make. Walter Swinburn Jnr, once stable jockey to Michael Stoute, was also a shy, young, successful jockey, but his shyness proved no barrier when confronted by the media ; always a displaying a friendly and polite manner when interviewed.
As for Lester Piggott; his surliness was probably due to his self-consciousness in relation to his speech impediment – therefore, it could be argued that his reluctance to wax lyrical on camera was mitigated by that fact.
I just happen to think that Ryan Moore comes across on tv as a surly and evasive young man, and unless I see evidence to the contrary, I see no reason to change that opinion.
Oh, and just for the record, he also comes across as inarticulate.
Shoot me !

BANG.
The day when people are judged by "how they come across on TV" is the day when we get such Prime Ministers as … oh dear. Oh dear, it already happened.
Himself:
seriously, don’t you think this is perhaps rather a superficial way of judging people? Some of the finest, wittiest people I’ve known don’t "come across" well on TV. Nobody in the business itself has a bad word to say about Mr Moore, which in my opinion is a much better guide to the truth of the matter than mere prejudice.
May 9, 2011 at 12:24 #354621I’ve always admired Moore since he advised Ms Balding that the armband worn by the leading jockey at Royal Ascot was "a load of bollocks, really", following a typically probing question about his current wearing of it.

Well remembered! Pithily put, true, and a good example of why I admire Moore too. He has the modesty and honesty to know that it’s the horses, not the jockeys, who are the real heart of the Sport, and he won’t dance the customary mendacious

dance about the matter with journalists.

You are conveniently twisting what I actually said in order to fit your agenda, Pinza.
I am not making a judgement on Ryan Moore as a Person. I am not a friend of Ryan Moore, I am not close to Ryan Moore, and I have nothing against Ryan Moore – OTHER than the perception I glean from his on screen interviews. That is all – and as superficial as it may seem, his on screen persona leaves me, for the moment at least, cold.
To his nearest and dearest of course, he may be a charimatic mixture of Eric Morecambe, Peter Kay and Voltaire all rolled into one.
I don’t know.

May 9, 2011 at 13:48 #354639He’s the best jockey on the planet, which means, everything else is irrelevant
May 9, 2011 at 14:12 #354644he is good, but i wouldnt say the best.
id rate a few jockeys above him skill wise. fallon, murtagh.
the main reason he looks so good is the amount of group races he racks up for sms, plus lots of other decent rides for hannon and aob.
May 9, 2011 at 17:04 #354662Is Ryan Moore a really bloody boring interviewee? Yes.
Is Ryan Moore a really bloody fantastic jockey? Yes.

May 9, 2011 at 17:39 #354672I rather like him just as he is. However, he has to look ahead to a career beyond racing or perhaps even a chance to win SPOTY so I think he would be well-advised to emote a bit more and prepare a few comments to keep the TV people happy after the race.
Perhaps his Betfair column will show him in a better light.
Frustratingly, although psychologically it is reassuring to have him ride on any horse one backs, rather like McCoy there is a tendency for him to be bad value relative to other jockeys as shown by the cumulative SP losses.
May 9, 2011 at 17:51 #354674I fail to see the problem with him not coming across as fanatically interesting to talk to. He’s paid to ride, not be a media personality. It doesn’t matter if he’s articulate or not.

Kasparov
, I read this with a wry smile. Don’t you think there’s a sublime irony in the fact that, on a Forum which so often questions jockeys’ honesty, you are actually urging Ryan Moore to try to be a bit more
dis
honest?!
Luckily, his long and glittering career as a jockey (ending c. 2035) is likely to be followed by a less spectacular, but remunerative stint as a trainer (ending c. 2085 with his sad demise). No
meja mug
he.
