I’ve struggled to muster anything more than a vague passing interest since it stopped being shown on proper telly. I certainly wouldn’t waste any money betting on it

What a horrible story. Hope they’ve got somebody for it
A dark week for racing R.I.P.
My last trip to the Cheltenham Festival was the day he won the Triumph. Not many of that day’s winners left now, all lost in very sad circumstances. R.I.P. Countrywide Flame (and Bellvano, Synchronised, Brindisi Breeze)
Thanks for sharing these. Lovely pics
July 19, 2014 at 18:57 in reply to: Big blow for Channel 4 Racing as Derby only pulls in 1.5m #485949the loss of Market Rasen’s feature race shows exactly why they’re losing viewers. For all the criticisms of individual presenters on this site and elsewhere, the main problem is that C4 really aren’t interested in showing racing beyond collecting the advertising revenue, don’t understand the sport and are happy to hand it over to a production team who would obviously prefer to be creating music videos if they were up to it – and often show a pretty lame one in preference to another race at the end of the programme.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that. I mean, good on him – it’s one hell of an achievement by anyone’s standards but what’s the connection with Martin P’s (equally impressive) total?
Backed him when he won at Goodwood purely because of the presence he had in the paddock. All postings on here are sad but the loss of this fellow is especially upsetting. RIP Sir Graham
3 daughters according to Donald McCain’s tweet. I saw this on the Racing Post site a few days ago but forgot to post it. I can’t find it now – the search function on that site is useless!
and no thanks to me who forgot to select for the Yorkshire Cup. I didn’t realise our league was also competing. Cringing apologies to all
Eclipse’s skeleton is at the Royal Veterinary College in London (though it was loaned to the Horseracing Museum for a time when it first opened). There is some doubt about its authenticity and suggestions that it may include bones from other horses, fuelled by the existence of at least 5 contemporary hooves of Eclipse!
A bit harsh. It’s true that the most impressive horses on show were probably the ones pulling the Harveys Brewery dray but it was a decent crowd, good facilities, the weather was perfect and everyone seemed to be having a nice time. A lot of first time race-goers will probably be back, which is presumably the idea. Not the finest quality racing but I’ve had worse days out at the races and had to pay a lot of money for them!
Excellent. I can understand why they wanted to run it before the Cheltenham highlights but shame it was on so late. Best social history documentary Channel 4 has shown for some time – the racing interest is a bonus!
