Then what will you lot complain about?
I moan because I want the coverage to be so much better and how it used to be in the best days of Alastair Down, John Francome and Big Mac. Hearing Alastair enthuse about jumps racing especially at Cheltenham made me feel part of the sport. I was entertained but with the new team I am bored
July 6, 2014 at 12:13 #484883All people used to do was moan about Francome [never critiscises jockeys; gives lousy tips etc], Thommo
et al before
A case of ‘be careful what you wish for’ I feel.July 6, 2014 at 12:47 #484889Then what will you lot complain about?

Quite agree. The sport deserves better coverage. The names you quote Phil had character and the chemistry with the coverage worked with them. While the presenters now are very eloquent, they also quickly become boring.
July 6, 2014 at 20:48 #484910Balding was exercising one of her very many get outs to be presenting the high drama of the Ladies final at Wimbledon for BBC R5 Live. No doubt she fully supports the travesty of equal pay for women in tennis. I think we need someone to do a Bobby Riggs.

Not sure you have ever been happy with the coverage Phil…

As I never bother to watch the tiresome Morning Line anymore I’m wondering if Channel 4 have finally decided to retire John McCririck? I’m not a huge fan of the man but he certainly makes Channel 4’s broadcasts much more entertaining but I forget now the last time I saw him.I’m wondering is this part of Channel 4 Racing’s ridiculous decision of not mentioning the betting so much it case it makes everyone march off to Gamblers Anonymous? Without gambling there is no horse racing and everyone places a wager to win money, unfortunately C4 can’t see this.

I agreed with all the sentiments of the second letter in the Post today, its embarassing and annoying watching C4 anymore and now the flat season is here I don’t think I’ll bother much from now on.July 6, 2014 at 22:40 #484913Bloody hell deep sensation are you CID or something?

John McCririck is a massive loss to C4. I only see him on Sunday Forum now but I love it when he’s on. Yes he’s eccentric and yes he talks some crap at times but he is entertaining and he brings the sport to life.
Watching most TV racing people they don’t sell the sport, there’s no enthusiasm they don’t bring across any excitement. No wonder people are turning off.
July 7, 2014 at 21:36 #484966Nick Luck is as dull as ditch water. Matt Chapman brings something to racing, perhaps he can help CH4 reinvent itself.
July 8, 2014 at 08:03 #484979You don’t have enough to do deep sensation. I did say the BEST times of the old Channel 4 Racing
July 8, 2014 at 10:07 #484982According to a Tory MP C4 Racing needs Mark Winstanley as a presenter to appeal to the viewers instead of the geekish approach they have now.
Would be interesting if ‘The Couch’ was a presenter and certainly the man who does the bleeping may have his finger busy.
July 8, 2014 at 14:26 #485008Jeeze if Ginger ever got on Ch 4 , I would give up …..I mean WTF
its bad enough !!!!

Winstanley is the most hackneyed presenter out there. He looks awful, knows eff all and relies on his "bloke in the pub" persona to carve a career.
Ironically, the average wino makes more sense than does Jabba.
July 19, 2014 at 07:27 #485854Tanya’s Big race stats

"6 out of the last 10 winners have come from the first 3 in the betting".
Well, thanks a bunch for that Tanya, very helpful.
July 19, 2014 at 15:38 #485927A new low for ch4 today when they decided not to show the most interesting race of the day,the summer plate from market rasen
Yes it was running late due a lightning strike but they could have shown it by simply putting all the adverts on after the newbury3.50 and then going off air as soon as they finished at market rasen but they obviously couldn’t be botherd thus missing a nice moment for AP
Under high flyer this would have not have happened and perhaps shows a loss of interest in racing by channel four,as was the case with test cricket.July 19, 2014 at 18:34 #485947Heaven forbid anything threaten Come Dine With Me (Repeat)!
July 19, 2014 at 18:57 #485949the loss of Market Rasen’s feature race shows exactly why they’re losing viewers. For all the criticisms of individual presenters on this site and elsewhere, the main problem is that C4 really aren’t interested in showing racing beyond collecting the advertising revenue, don’t understand the sport and are happy to hand it over to a production team who would obviously prefer to be creating music videos if they were up to it – and often show a pretty lame one in preference to another race at the end of the programme.
July 19, 2014 at 19:12 #485953After the delay at Market Rasen I thought they would have run the big two races at the scheduled times and put back one of the first two races till after the big ones.
I suspect that may have happened if they hadn’t all been sponsored by Betfred.
July 19, 2014 at 19:18 #485954Mick Fitzgerald was crap today. Jim McGrath teed him up to give us a "remarkable" stat regarding the number of winners Mark Johnston had had recently and the implication was that Mick had researched it. Just as Mick tried to deliver the figure, he dried up, clearly unable to remember the number, leaving Jimbo to splutter that it was "Something like eighteen, I think"
Great stuff.
Mind you on ATR I lost count of the number of times the co-commentator at the Curragh stated that the delay caused by the re-shoeing of Volume was "Unfair on the connections of the other horses". I was like Groundhog Day and at one stage he even came out with the classic line:-
"This is getting unfair now, to be fair"
Marvellous, even if she wasn’t.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
