What a wholly nonsensical conceit this is!
AP will shortly beat Martin Pipe’s training record of 4192 winners. Presumably, the champ’s next totally unrelated random target is Mike Gatting’s 4409 Test runs??
Mike
NB Of course, the actual ride on the equalising horse – On The Record – was typically supreme.
July 16, 2014 at 19:54 #485644I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that. I mean, good on him – it’s one hell of an achievement by anyone’s standards but what’s the connection with Martin P’s (equally impressive) total?
July 16, 2014 at 20:07 #485648Mr Pipe apparently set him the challenge by saying he would never better it knowing that he would beat it.

Would be nice to think that AP will hang up his boots very soon while he’s in one piece. Expect we’ll be seeing him bag his 20th. title first, so a good few months yet for him to risk life and limb.
Stay safe and then you can have a well earned retirement to enjoy seeing your children growing up.

July 16, 2014 at 21:57 #485666I’ve wished the champ well a few times and good luck with SPOTY on a snowy day at Exeter not too long ago, but never asked him for his autograph – don’t think I’ll start now.
PS, can you get it for me please
July 16, 2014 at 22:07 #485671Yeah no worries, a bit like at school when you ask your mate to ask a girl out for you and when he returns and says she said yes, you crap yourself and run a mile.

I’ll get you photo with him aswell and send it to you.
I wont post it on here incase Ricky takes the micky…….

It is a bit daft. Comparison with other jockeys less so
Lester Piggott’s 4493 should be within his grasp but Gordon Richards’ all-time high of 4870 may be too much I reckon. Wonder if AP’s thought about these targets?

To be fair to AP he does seem embarrassed by it all but what can he do? Absolute overkill on ATR & the RP on something that is purely a personal thing between Pipe & AP.
I can’t seem him continuing to just beat Piggott’s record, it would have to be Richards record or nothing. I fear this could be his last season but hope I’m wrong and he attempts it.
Be surprised if we hear AP’s thoughts on the targets until the deed is done or not.July 17, 2014 at 08:59 #485708Don’t really mind all this celebratory overkill: McCoy’s a one-off, wonderful, we’re unlikely to see his like again, and he’s now essentially on borrowed time. So let’s savour all the remaining moments
July 17, 2014 at 12:09 #485721At least the overkill on ATR meant we got to see even more of Mick Fitz, with him at both Uttoxeter & Worcester.
Thankfully AP didn’t give him a lift in his chopper.

Looks like he’s confirmed to ride at Stratford on Sunday. Only been there once myself and that was some years ago chasing a huge jackpot rollover from Cheltenham festival and decided on the long trek up the M5. Think I was out after the first race

^^^^^ Forget that. Just seen that as well as a mount in the Stratford decs he’s also down to ride Boru’s Brook in the bumper at NA.
July 18, 2014 at 17:48 #485795Confirmed for Stratford.

I know – I told you that!
Sunday is being marketed as Family Day… Great

But at least it looks like the little buggers will be out of the way in the centre of the track
July 18, 2014 at 20:50 #485813I have a niggling memory of AP suffering a fall on his first ride in Britain. Does anyone know if that was the case or is Alzheimers setting in early?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 18, 2014 at 21:24 #485816Confirmed for Stratford.

We’ll plonk deaf Jon on the bouncy castle and go for a cider then…..
