Obviously, the whole meeting was a waste of time and no horse in any race was worth more than a fiver. That’s Brighton on the the first meeting, and that’s why they were giving the product away for nothing.

I happened to be there on a jolly. I was about three-quarters of a furlong from the finish during this race. I don’t know who handicapped it but it had everyone laughing. A whole bunch of horses were toddling in after 13-year-old Megalala’s 9-length lead, with two jockeys even having a natter and laughing.

    Pretty poor advert.

A bit harsh. It’s true that the most impressive horses on show were probably the ones pulling the Harveys Brewery dray but it was a decent crowd, good facilities, the weather was perfect and everyone seemed to be having a nice time. A lot of first time race-goers will probably be back, which is presumably the idea. Not the finest quality racing but I’ve had worse days out at the races and had to pay a lot of money for them!
