Thurles 17:40 – Baba Bucks 1 pt win @ 100/30 (WH)
+52.4
Allaho.
It’s rare I have a bet this early but one 50/1 shot stands out to me that didn’t run this week: Gentlemansgame for the 3m novice chase. He looked a stayer when second to Gaillard Du Mesnil at Leopardstown and Mouse Morris has said he will be a better horse over fences. That was a huge effort on just his second start under rules, and he’ll probably be 20/1 when he wins his beginner’s chase in the autumn.
Nice debrief Bobby. Agree regarding Allaho, phenomenal performance. I knew you would have been thrilled with Galvin, you’ve long been a supporter of that one and it was a classier NH Chase than we might usually get I think, but he proved well up to it. Hopefully he’s given his chance in Grade 1 company at Punchestown.
One of your lowlights, Belfast Banter, saved blushes of a similar nature for me. I really fancied Milkwood for the Betfair Hurdle and he was third on my shortlist today, I can live with him placing but it would have stung a little bit had it won having deserted him. If good ground at Aintree I would be interested in that one again, may be capable of even better if delivered later.
Escaria Ten – would you be thinking a quiet campaign before coming back for a handicap next year?
On the Irish National, the two I like are, not very original, The Big Dog and Latest Exhibition. I’m not sure if the latter will run there or the Powers Gold Cup but would be interesting for sure if running in the National. The Big Dog is being aimed at the race and looks to have a nice profile for it. At 16/1 I am tempted at this stage.
The battle between Townend and Blackmore was interesting. Blackmore has shut the door on Townend more than once previously this week but Townend was very quick to do the same today. Then a couple of furlongs later Rachel was there again to take his ground, which cost Al Boum Photo a bit of momentum and the few lengths he couldn’t seem to make up thereafter. The jumps from Minella Indo over the last two were a sight to behold. Allaho and Minella Indo, closely followed by Honeysuckle, were the performances of the week for me, and I hadn’t a penny on any of them.
Good stuff FLD you’ve had a great week by the look of things. On Glens Of Antrim, I was disappointed with the tactics yesterday, I think she will be seen to better effect when dropped in settled. Maybe they wanted to give her the best chance of a clear round of jumping and thought she had form over further so wanted to make use of her, but I don’t know if the forcing tactics will see her at her best going forward. The horse who beat her at Naas, Mr Incredible, is one to keep onside I think, he looks smart.
Well done Tommy, I see you put the winner up on your DLAP thread. He did that easily, another good looking horse and big enough for a fence too.
Thanks Greenasgrass, I didn’t put him here as hadn’t much time to give any reasoning, and plus thought I’d be keeping my losers to fewer eyes in DLAP! What’s seldom is wonderful and days like today sure are seldom. I was keen to take on the market leaders and with Ashdale Bob not going Vanillier got the vote. Looks a chaser in that he gives his hurdles plenty of air too.
Having felt like I was hitting the crossbar a bit over the past few days, I couldn’t have asked for any more today, four winners, three at over 20/1, a great way to end the week. I haven’t made money on the Friday of Cheltenham for six years so wasn’t expecting that!

Nice return from Tornado Flyer Tommy, ridden for a place alright, and he did it well.
Yeah I was delighted with him Bobby, hope you managed to get a profit out of him too? He’s been a horse I’ve always liked and thought could run as well as that so it’s nice to see him do it. He reminds me a lot of Felix Yonger in his running style and ability.
Mares Chase – Magic Of light 1 pt place @ 2.4 (BF Ex, 4 places)

A day of what might have been today. Farclas ran a cracker in the Plate, was nearly brough down on the home turn and still came through for second despite the lost momentum. Plan Of Attack going very well when coming down 3 out there in the Kim Muir.
Pertemps – The Bosses Oscar 1 pt e/w 11/2 (BFSB 6 places) – returns 2.2 pts
Ryanair – Tornado Flyer 1 pt place @ 8/1 (WH 3 places) – returns 9 pts-1.7

That was a Denman-like performance.
