Santini made a bad mistake. He was travelling ok before then. We wont know if he was the same horse as last year because we never found out.
Champ was just terrible from the get go.

March 19, 2021 at 16:47 #1531134Mike sorry santini,s issue wasn’t jumping like champ , he just hasn’t shown any form , I’ve made the point before about how much of a horse wrecker this race is and it’s clearly left its mark on him and lostintranslation to , he’s, not a GC horse and hopefully we,ll now see a national campaign champ may well be found to have an issue but that kicking his back legs out when jumping has been seen before , he just isn’t a good jumper and I wouldn’t be amazed if they go back to hurdles , his prep as mentioned was also a joke , Indo won well and Rachel will be gutted she got off him , personally although it was all going on to fast for him once again native puts money in my pocket ( I’ve never had a losing bet with him ) his run screams grand national but we know it will never happen , looking forward to next year Monkfish and Envoi both must have good chances , there 2 of the best novices seen in a few years …maybe some work on the jumping

March 19, 2021 at 17:50 #1531172Good race, run at a decent pace all they way; perhaps A Plus Tard lost a few lengths at the top of the hill, but apart from that no excuses for the beaten horses. Hope the first 2 come back next year; adding in Monkfish and Envoi will make it quite a contest, tho inevitably a few will fall by the wayside.
Hopefully they’ll meet before that also.March 19, 2021 at 17:50 #1531173Did my money on ABP but clawed back a little by backing Minella Indo in running. It was clear from an early stage he was in a great rhythm and jumping well. Cheltenham clearly brings out the best in him and the better ground probably helped.
ABP ran well but maybe that is as good as he is.
Agree completely with comments about Champ and Henderson. A joke of a preparation. Henderson really has made a fool of himself this season. His decision to take Altior out of the Tingle Creek and his petulant reaction afterwards looks even more foolish now.
March 19, 2021 at 18:04 #1531181The battle between Townend and Blackmore was interesting. Blackmore has shut the door on Townend more than once previously this week but Townend was very quick to do the same today. Then a couple of furlongs later Rachel was there again to take his ground, which cost Al Boum Photo a bit of momentum and the few lengths he couldn’t seem to make up thereafter. The jumps from Minella Indo over the last two were a sight to behold. Allaho and Minella Indo, closely followed by Honeysuckle, were the performances of the week for me, and I hadn’t a penny on any of them.
March 19, 2021 at 18:56 #1531201I’m just pleased for Jack who I’ve been fond of ever since I found myself standing next to his mum when Labaik won. With so many injuries for one so young one has to wonder how long his career will last but at least his name is up there as a Gold Cup winning jockey. And I’m pleased for Henry who has always struck me as a real decent man. The sight of him and Jack walking back together after Envoi’s fall yesterday and then the two of them winning the GC today pretty much sums up racing and life in general.
March 19, 2021 at 20:29 #1531244I was over the moon for Minella Indo who was, in my opinion, robbed of the RSA last year when idling in front with no time to reply to Champ’s late surge. I kept the faith and was rewarded with 20/1 and 14/1 antepost tickets, turning my week from a fair loss to profit

For what its worth, I think he will win it next year too. Not totally convinced by Monkfish’s jumping on both visits to Cheltenham. Got away with it this year due to average competition. Will Envoi Allen stay the GC trip? Minella Indo isn’t an attractive antepost price but i expect him to drift by Christmas/Feb as he’s a spring horse/Cheltenham specialist.
March 19, 2021 at 20:57 #1531254Istrabraq LIT issue wasn’t trip he just isn’t seeing races out , been the same all year , the Tizzards got cue card back from a similar issue hopefully they can work the oracle here to
