Please don’t apply to be a representative on a BHA rebranding committee – we’re all ****** if you do.
With the wisdom of this Brian and Ben shi’ite, we are anyway…
He used to train a fair few for Sheikh Mo’s son (Dark Blue with white cap, previously all beige colours). Who trains ’em now, has he moved them all to Bryan Smart, where his others were?
Haven’t been able to read all of this thread, but I have nothing against Hunter Chases. It gives PTP stables a chance to effectively race under rules, gives young, amateur riders a chance to ride in races and also allows some racing stables a chance to run their lesser lights or their older boys. I have nothing against them.
No doubt Richards has been hit with the loss of horses from both Davidson and other owners due to the credit crunch. Shame to see a big-ish trainer like that losing all those horses but that’s the way it goes. Davidson was always cutting down, anyway, as Persimmon Homes isn’t exactly printing cash at the minute.
New Approach never went to Godolphin.
The Giant’s Causeway was bred by Stonerside Stable, the outfit that Sheikh Mo bought out last year that included horses such as Raven’s Pass etc. so would therefore have been bred before Sheikh Mo owned them.
A Compulsary retirement age for all race horses IE 10 for a flat horse, 13 for a natonal hunt horse.
Why? That’s absolutely wrong when you have horses like Will He Wish running competitively off a handicap rating of 75 (on the flat) at the age of 13.
Right, now I don’t know what’s going on. Eoghan had a runner today, FOLSOMPRISONBLUES, at Newbury for owner Phil Cunningham. On the Racing Post website he’s still down as being based at Averham Park, but their website is down. He also has a bunch of entries for the coming week. Is he training from France and shipping them all over, and the RP haven’t changed his location, or is he still there for a while?
The use of some gallops is what the dispute is over, apparently.
The first race, the way Apartman won and the time (2.3 secs better than standard) suggest so, anyway.
Indeed. Snoopy Loopy won last year’s renewal of the Summer Plate. Admittedly, he wasn’t rated 160 or whatever he is now, but must have been 140 ish, and I believe he’s being aimed at this year’s big chase at Ffos Las, which his owners own of course. I’d have thought he’d have needed a rest now, he’s had an awfully long season and been on the go since well before last year’s Summer Plate, but ‘waddeva ya say’, Mr Bowen.
Simon,
Treatment of a broken leg in a human might be more difficult if the patient weighed half a ton and had to remain upright throughout the healing process.
It’s also relatively simple to knock out a human – much harder to do with a horse, and then you need a complicated system of slings and pulleys to move the horse whilst it’s unconcious. Think about the TV nature programs when you’ve seen a big wild animal hit with a sedative dart and how difficult they still are to handle.
Yes, that’s a fair point and something I didn’t think of. I guess that’s what makes a vet’s job that much harder than a doctor – they have no way of communicating with the animals.
I heard there was believed to be a firearm on Mr Best’s property, a thorough search was made and nothing found. The dispute is with another trainer – Suzy Smith.
With all the money swirling around horse racing in this day and age from the Sheikhs, Magniers, Tabors etc etc, I find it amazing how far behind equine treatments are in comparison to human treatments. As said above, horses’ legs are far more complicated (I didn’t know this) and this is probably why, but a leg break in a human is so simple to sort out. It seems amazing how easily a human can be treated and then back to normal in next to no time, yet a horse has to be put down.
It’s amazing to me how long ago last year’s Paddy Power was, yet it seems so recent. Seems so recent that there was so much hype about how fabulous Silverburn would be this year, all for it to turn to dust. It’s now closer to this year’s Paddy Power than last. I think it’ll be interesting what ‘good’ horses stay in training for the summer jumping this year, and whether that’ll affect if the quality of horses running around October/November time is affected. With that new big Handicap Chase and Hurdles at Ffos Las, and the Summer Plate and Summer Hurdles from Market Rasen and other good races, the summer jumping scene seems to be improving year on year, as does the quality of horse.
With still over 80 entries why do you think there will be a small field? There’s always a few no hopers run to make up the numbers.
Didn’t realise Fergus Wilson had any entries.
Isn’t that thing of Hannon’s that won at Kempton the other week running? The name escapes me…
Thanks, Colin, I’ve been using them for a while. Ever since they were recommended to me a few months back, but I’m sure I read somewhere on another forum about one that does all entries, too. Typically, I can’t find the ******.
