I don’t get as much time to keep up to date with racing news as I’d like and although I’m essentially a NH fan I do follow one or two trainers on the level and Eoghan is one of them. However he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth at the moment. Does anyone know why?

I understand that he’s trying to ‘re-invent’ himself, with a forename that people can pronounce.

Think his name is pronounced "Owen". As far as I know O’Niells main owner was John Fretwell, can’t remember tyhe exact ins and outs, but remember reading something regarding O’Niell and Fretwell, and know that Medicinal (which I think was one of fretwell’s) moved to Peter Chapple Hyam’s yard last season. Cant remember if Fretwell was only moving one or two horses or the whole shebang, but would be pretty sure that it would have been a big hit to O’Niells yard if he did.

Perhaps someone else may know more on the matter.

Just been informed Eoghan has decided to relocate to France to continue training. He has purchased a yard & the vast majority of his owners are sticking with him so I hope all goes well for him out there.

I had the misfortune to deal with him regarding the purchase of a horse. Just about the most rude and obnoxious man that I’ve ever met.

He will need too get a bunch of french breds or horses who have been asimlated into the french breeding program, thus you get the french premiums..

Normandy based bloodstock agent Tim Claydon has an eye for horses with frogein breeding but are french asimlatates.

His main owner, John Fretwell, had a fall out with him last year, I believe. That’s the reason behind Fretwell moving all of his horses from the yard and spreading them out between Ed McMahon (a trainer he’s used for years anyway), Peter Chapple-Hyam, Clive Cox and Kevin Ryan. Despite this big loss in horses, O’Neill remained competitive and still appeared to have plenty of horses. Fretwell owned O’Neill’s yard in Nottinghamshire, so it was surprising he remained there in the first place. It will be interesting to see if Fretwell replaced O’Neill, and puts a new trainer at his yard, and if he moves his horses back there, or keeps them more spread out.

In fairness John Fretwell seems to fall out with everyone. His previous trainer was Derek Shaw and how anyone could fall out with Derek is a mystery to me.

Yes, but he’s a big gambler, and when these gambles don’t quite come off, the pressure will be on the trainer.

Any inclination who the new trainer might be, Carvillshill, if anyone?

Right, now I don’t know what’s going on. Eoghan had a runner today, FOLSOMPRISONBLUES, at Newbury for owner Phil Cunningham. On the Racing Post website he’s still down as being based at Averham Park, but their website is down. He also has a bunch of entries for the coming week. Is he training from France and shipping them all over, and the RP haven’t changed his location, or is he still there for a while?
