I will put it in the right thread this time – it has already been a long day!!!
I have just walked the final furlong of the track – having underestimated how far the walk from the airport to the course was I could not walk much further.
Although the going is officially good there are a couple of what can best be called "squidgy" patches which showed a bit more cut.
Not surprisingly the ground towards the far rail is quite well cut up after yesterdays racing.
April 18, 2009 at 15:35 #222486Thanks Paul, enjoy your afternoon.
April 18, 2009 at 16:22 #222493A lovely blue sky here and a lovely spring afternoon, there is a modest breeze behind the runners in the home straight. It will be interesting to see if the ground does dry out as the afternoon progresses.
April 18, 2009 at 16:24 #222495I see they’ve taken Merigo out of the National, so ground must be drying out quite a bit.
April 18, 2009 at 16:57 #222497The first race, the way Apartman won and the time (2.3 secs better than standard) suggest so, anyway.
April 18, 2009 at 17:33 #222505I had the first 1.3" fast (3′ 39.7" vs std 3′ 41")
The time of the second though was 4′ 54.9" vs std 4′ 49" so that one was 5.9" slow
April 18, 2009 at 18:16 #222512The Champion Hurdle was 3′ 36.5" (4.5" fast)
April 19, 2009 at 15:15 #222591As a postscript I was chatting to one of the jocks yesterday evening and we were talking about the going and I asked him if the ground was slower on the chase course as the times seemed a lot faster on the hurdles course.
He said the ground was exactly the same on both courses and the reason for the relatively faster times in the hurdle races was they were "better races", "more competitive" and simply run at a much faster pace.
April 19, 2009 at 23:02 #222650Was a good day yesterday, Will be doing a write up but need to get back into the daily grind of work and dehumanise myself.
