i thought the banning of fox hunting is supposed to put the nail in the coffin of jumps, at least thats what the hunters keep saying!

i’m with you SL on black jack ketchum who i still haven’t got a half decent speed figure for, so there are question marks still there. Hes unbackable antepost at the minute, and i hardly loose out if later proved wrong.

Detroit city only just got there over 2m 2f in the caesarewitch and though highly impressive the previous season i’m not the only one who thinks he ideally may need further this year. we should find out in the greatwood hurdle where he’ll carry a handy sized weight, but i fear he may prove tapped for toe like Mighty man the previous year.

As for Brave inca, i feel there is little between the top few hurdlers and the difference last year was Mccoy who may well be riding Straw bear come the champion. With this question mark which for me is vital i feel the value lies else where for the time being.

Personally i’m thinking of taking on brave inca this year in the champion hurdle.

I was majorly impressed with Macs Joy at punchestown and straw bear at Aintree. Throw in harchibald, feathard lady, asian maze and iktitaf and there not being alot of difference between the top few, the fact Mccoy will be riding for mcmanus just might make a big difference this year for BI.
With regard to Christian williams, my understanding was that he’d suffered from a brachial plexus which involves damage to the nerves down to the hand. If he’s anything like the norm he can expect anything upto full paralysis of the arm which is often amputated later on in life due to phantom pains and complete muscle wastage. though i’m sure a nerve transplant was attempted in his case, i’m not sure how successful regarding full movement recovery they are.

huge amount of negativity on here in reference to GW’s potential Classic bid, but there’s at least 1 yank across the pond who seems excited at the prospect.

"Talk overseas is that Coolmore owned GW may try the Classic instead of the Mile where he is currently the fave. Interesting story, bred and sold for $2.1 million by the owners of Barbaro,he is a half to the good stakes winner Grandera who won on dirt in Dubai. Mare and 2 other siblings won at 10F or more. Kinane says "I’ve ridden good ones, but none better". Would be coming off a career top number in his last and many will toss because of no dirt experience. Sire Danehill this year has had 51 dirt runners from a total of 196,15 dirt winners from a total of 89 and 1 stakes winner from a total of 19. Adds more excitement(and potential sire value) going to the Classic than the Mile in my opinion."

AOB now quoted on racing post as leaning towards Classic with GW.
Very interesting.

He is more Hawk Wing than ROG – which some people might take as a compliment, but I don’t mean it as one

Hit the nail on the head there sal which brings the topic round to that of its title.
AOB hardly kept his awe and regard for Hawkwing hidden which has since made him reticent about hyping his horses since. However my sense is that he holds GW in similar regard and for the same reasons he sent Hawkwing for the Classic he could send Georgie in that he will have nothing to lose. Unlike Hawkwing though, he has no need to keep him running at 4, in order to boost his stud value.

i’m still of the opinion that a win in the breeders cup mile adds very little to GW’s prestige and stud value as he has already beaten the best all aged milers in the world aswell as being a handsome guineas winner. It would probably be his last race and win, lose or draw commercially the difference would be slim.

However a run in the classic at worst leaves his stud value unalterred but at best greatly improved. Commercially it is the way forward IMO.

listening to AOB after the QE11 victory i think its basically a done deal that we won’t see GW again next year.
With that in mind and although i’m no expert on churchill downs, i can’t see a downside in running in the classic that you wouldn’t get in the the breeders cup mile race which i assume is also on the cards.

A win in the breeders cup mile is likely to affect his stud fee little, as would a flop in either of the two races as i’m sure there would be a myriad of excuses / explanations that wouldn’t detract from his already impressive career.
A decent run in the classic however would be a major plus for his stud career and as we know AOB isn’t afraid to throw his best 3yos into this race.

    Drone.
My father in law would make a mockery of my yorkshire cricket loving statement as he close to makes a religion of it and i’m sure would make a much more worthy soulmate!
though being a true gent and unforgiving sort he now has no like for the afore mentioned Mr Boycott.

In my squaddie days with bouts of homesickness after a tour i would head back to my home city on the train. The "welcome to York" sign always made me smile, with the York part being a giant Yorkie bar with the "ie" bitten off.
Not so sure where they are made these days though.

I find myself feeling quite envious at your diverse group of friends GGD, your dinner parties must be like the united nations.
Hargreaves breaks leg, theres now 1 squad place going begging for a decent mid fielder. Know any?

What are the odds for a recall?

Shooting Light (RIP) in the Aon chase.
Backed it in Best mates 1st gold cup and after a lay off through injury just couldn’t let it go off at 40’s on betfair in a race where the plodder keen leader was odds on. Best of all mccoy was riding the other pipe horse, leaving Richard Johnson the ride the outsider! He was smiling too.

he is one of my faves also, but alot of his problems have come from his near fatal fall and the form problems pipey had last year.

i prefer to call him frustrating rather than dissapointing. But would be glad join your our vic club?

Can’t agree with Our Vic as one i’m afraid. Slightly dissappointing on occasion and on others not so.

Last years main jumps candidate for me was Ollie Magern. Gives 5lbs to the previous years gold cup and king george runners up. Beats them easily and then not within a distance of winning another race since.
