Sad thing is, if it was a quiet day, it was probably their money which reduced the price from 66/1. Many years ago at Royal Ascot I managed to shift a horse’s price from 66/1 to 50/1 with just 50p each-way, admittedly in the Silver Ring, but prices sometimes change for very little money!

My wife and I went to the Easter Monday meeting a few years back and found it busy but bearable. Racing isn’t of a great standard, but it’s exciting enough and with the course only a mile round viewing is reasonable. It’s a pain getting out afterwards, but then isn’t everywhere on a Bank Holiday?

You have to work on the basis that it’s a good training performance. If not then should 33/1, or 66/1 winners be banned?

Even if I hadn’t got money on the horse I’d have taken a good deal of consolation from being able to spot a winner at a decent price. A useful and potentially profitable lesson for the future and using your presence at the meeting to find something ‘the crowd’ don’t know.

Ballabriggs was withdrawn due to the drying ground.

Quote: from Pompete on 1:47 am on Mar. 30, 2007[br]
However, a little while ago while watching Manchester United vs Everton on Sky, a United player went to take a throw-in in front of the Everton fans and was met with what can only be described as a wall of hate (for the record I support neither team). Strange as it seems, I can still visualise one particular face from the crowd and put simply, I can’t put into words what this person must have been feeling. The anger he was displaying is something that I don’t think I’ve ever encounted.

I remember seeing the same thing many years ago when I followed Reading in a local derby at Swindon. We were caged in at the away section, which in itself probably dictated some of the behaviour. A group of ‘Reading supporters’ next to me were shouting and screaming insults and threats at the Swindon fans, their faces contorted with hate. It was something I just couldn’t understand.

BALLABRIGGS goes for the 2.15 at Uttoxeter today. The going is the unknown here, as he’s only run on soft or heavy before. However the trainer did have an alternative at Hexham, and there don’t appear to be many with a chance in this race, so at a forecast price around 5/1 I think Ballabriggs is worth a play.

You don’t have to play one arm bandits(three or five reel) and you don’t have to bet on poor quality racing.

Sir Harry Lewis- cheers for your response. Personally, I think the likes of the Mossman Gorge incident is far from an isolated scenario, although I have no hard evidence.

It must be said the results of the poll are rather worrying! :o
In view of the fact that you started the poll and set the tone by your first post, a bit like setting a question andanswering yourself, then your last sentence surprises me a little.
….and the fact that the races are all run on one mile oval left-handed dirt tracks?

But then by their very nature such thoughts remain a nebulous concept.
