Best of luck with that. I stopped Placepots when I found myself punching a concrete wall.
I hope this thread turns out to be one of those that is still running in two years time.
I thoroughly enjoyed Chester, as I always do. I had one bloody good winner and a couple of good e/ws. But I wouldn’t have minded if I’d drawn blank. There’s something about it I really like.
Hayley, Tanya, and who’s that woman who does william hill’s PR stuff on the telly? You’d take a tip off her.
We’ll have no pocket talk here, ginger!
I lost in every race with the added insult of changing my mind at the last minute about a tenner each way on a 50/1 winner. Do you see me moaning? No. It’s why I love racing.
I started this thread
before
the race started Prof; so it can hardly be called "pocket talk".

You added to it with great vehemence AFTER the race was over. Nuff said. Pocket, pocket, pocket all the way!

I’ll be back again for more misery tomorrow.
To be fair Paul, after the race the good Doctor did say it was his "only social runner of the week". So Good job Mike didn’t ask; had he done so the answer would’ve probably been seen as
putting punters/viewers away
.
Paul?
It was lucky for star in the morning that the o brien boy panicked, but still.
Punters should be refunded! A disgrace of a race!
Keep dreaming.
Do you see me moaning? No. It’s why I love racing.
I don’t have the words…!!
Mike
Yes you do, you used them in another reply: irony.

*Chuckles*

What about the Belles of St Trinians?
How can you have forgotten Arab Boy and the Cheltenham Gold Cup?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Belles … rinian%27sBit of turf action in Get Carter as well:
At 6:29 onwards:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTVo0V_oyR8But BEST OF ALL, Brighton Rock. Ida Arnold (played by the great hermione baddeley) in the enviable position of having -as I remember – a 10/1 winner in Black Boy, with some nice footage of the races at Brighton and an exciting finish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB1HWgl2 … re=relatedIn handicaps they usually confirm what you’ve already seen in the form: ‘I’m a bit worried about the ground’; ‘Bit heavy’. etc In high class flat racing their comments aren’t worth much.
Chester on Wednesday!
—
‘He always tells us when it’s going to win!’..and then I’ll wish it was (
insert another month
). I mean God, racing, who needs it FFS?
Especially on the Flat. And especially the START of the Flat. And the END. And the MIDDLE BITS, goddammit. Is there anything so utterly futile?
Yes, JUMP RACING. What an ENTHUSIASM-SAPPING farce! Completely mind-crushingly dispiriting in every way. Why do I bother?
I MEAN WHY THE HELL DO I BOTHER????!!!!
Still, Chester soon.
Mike
It’s an excellent question to ask oneself when betting on animals running across a field.
Occasionally some trenchant observations need to be made, and if that upsets the purists, tough tit.
Yeah, but you don’t make any! What ‘trenchant observations’ have you made about Guineas day in this thread?
You seem to think of yourself as
the man they couldn’t gag
, the man who
says it as it is
etc etc, which is just a tiresome internet forum cliche from the terminally aggressive repeated a trillion times worldwide.
(Or trolls of course!)
Mike
Trenchant: 1. incisive or keen, as language or a person; caustic; cutting: trenchant wit. 2. vigorous; effective; energetic
The Guineas
was
a bore. When I compare it to some of the races we’ve seen in the past year – off the top of my head the Hennessy, or even some midweek stuff that will never be remembered again except on page 1122 of the form book annual – the 2000 Guineas looked like a silly little race with too big a prize for the spectacle on offer: like an egg-and-spoon race for half a million quid.
I don’t expect you to agree. But it’s my opinion, and a few anoraks spluttering ‘you can’t saythat
is not really a prima facie argument.
… good day for inside info.
Heavens! The bravery of some of those big bets at newmarket!
Hardly a debate though, is it Prof?
If there is no reasoningat the beginning
of the thread it just comes across as a moan.
What you must understand,Ginger, is that I don’t care if things do come across as a moan.
Racing is an odd sport in that the views of the majority of people who support it and follow it just don’t get an airing. The odd email and letter in the Post etc. Occasionally some trenchant observations need to be made, and if that upsets the purists, tough tit.
But the game needs rigorous public criticism and debate
Good job you’re here then PT.
That’s what I think, Cormack! Nice to be in agreement.
I must be an anorak !

Prof, you’ll be ok today if you have ATR, 14 NH races from Gowran Park and Sligo and not a flat race on that channel. (unless NH bumpers bore you also).
Myself, I’ll enjoy the racing from Newmarket.
Like you I often have to check the day after I post anything, Red Wine can be a problem, especially after backing the 2000 Guineas winner and getting a return from the exacta on my birthday, I just had to go and buy another bottle.
You backed a winning favourite at a titchy price. I humbly salute your punting prowess. Aye, we consort with gods on here, we truly do.
