Yeah, thanks Blunkett
Grumeti has had a minor setback. From the Sporting Life:
GRUMETI SUFFERS MINOR SETBACK
JCB Triumph Hurdle favourite Grumeti has suffered a minor setback, but connections fully expect him to make the line-up next week. The Alan King-trained juvenile has won three of his four outings, but the former Michael Bell inmate was lame on Tuesday morning.
"He’s lame today but Alan fully expects it clear up with the next two days," said Iain Turner, racing manager to owner Max McNeil.
"It’s something very minor. If it had happened next Tuesday we’d be a bit worried, but we expect him to be back working by the end of the week.
"He’s been fine for so long it’s frustrating this has happened now, but that’s racing.
"What with it being so close to the Festival, we thought it best to let everybody know."
I’m sure anyone with any ante-post bets going for this must be looking at Peddlers Cross right now like he’s the new kid at school; no one really wants him here and he should go back to where he came from!
This made me smile, but from what I hear there’s a good chance the new kid may actually turn up at school on Thursday!
I have backed Maljimar EW at 12/1 for the X Country
First have to fess up to having backed him probably at the last 4 festivals, so there is a bit of sentimentality, but trying ignore that still think there’s case to be made for him…
• I still think he could have won if delivered later last year, so hopefully Reveley can hang on longer than Darryl Jacobs did
• Won’t mind the ground (almost certain to be quick on the X Country)
• A few lbs lower
• Underrated trainerQuevega is no value now at 4/7 & whist she’s a banker, am not even sure I’d back her at that price on the day, though think bigger will be available then…
Ideally I’d back in the ‘without’ market, but as there isn’t one have had a few quid ew on
Kentford Grey Lady
at 16/1.
She’s got a touch of class, Ms Lavelle’s says she’s aimed at the race which could really cut up and leave just a handful of runners, so the place part looks very doable and there’s the chance of landing the win portion!
Betfair to refund bets as well:
Betfair Customer Services 23 Feb 12 12:24
The BHA confirmed today that both Vic Venturi and Backstage are ineligible to run in this year’s Foxhunters Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. As the rule precluding their participation in this event was in place prior to the Ante-Post market being loaded we have taken the decision to void all Ante-Post bets matched on these two horses.
All unmatched bets were cancelled before reopening the market on the Foxhunters Chase.
I disagree. If I owned or trained a horse and saw it was favourite for a big race and realised it wasn’t eligible I’d flag it up as soon as possible
You may get a refund from bookies, but think it very unlikely on Betfair which makes the delay in connections saying anything very poor form, particularly as Elliot is one of their “Ambassadors”
And forgetting about betting, I think connections should make the public aware as soon as possible, of anything worthy in relation to a relatively high profile horse such as a favourite for a Cheltenham race. Communication has got better over the last 5/10 years, but there’s still room for more improvement
That’s a shame, but hard to have any sympathy when they’ve not send something sooner…
Elliott said on Thursday morning: "We’ve known for a little while that he was ineligible. I’ve not considered other races at the Festival yet. I’ve got to talk to the owners."

Yeah, well done to the horses, Colin and the team. If it’d been Henderson or Nicholls it would have been front page news…
Just watched the re-run of the Salsify win on Hennessey day and he’s probably the one for me
Mr C J Sweeney looks inexperienced, but did it nicely at Leopardstown and will likely carry my cash on the day
2p win Simonsig for me as well, but only 10/1 now

Tom went for 2:
Silviniaco Conti 1pt win 16-1 generally
First Lieutenant 1pt win 12-1 BetfredHaving backed Last Instalment ew at much bigger prices, cannot have him now as my "pricewise" selection
First Lieutenant loves Cheltenham, will likely get faster ground so has to be the choice
2pt win First Lieutenant 14/1 Boyles (where has all the 16/1+ gone?? – Pricewise I guess….)
