Well three out of four and the Steelers almost covered the spread. You actually did well considering there were more unpredictable results. Andy Dalton was in Mr Hyde mode after his horrendous performance last week, and who could have forecast the Rams restricting Peyton and the Broncos to seven points.

Six weeks to the playoffs and the picture is still clear as mud. Can the Cards really become the first team to play a Super Bowl in their own stadium and should the NFC South still have a playoff spot as none of the teams in it appear to want to qualify.

Mark Bradstock said on ATR yesterday that Carruthers will be back over the cross country fences next month.

I think everyone knew that Pineau is being prepared for one race only this year. I just find it a shame that trainers are now running national contenders over hurdles to protect their handicap marks. Add this to Balthazar King now heading straight to Aintree as he runs better fresh and it adds to the disappointment that we don’t see the best horses running enough.

It’s not a "mid afternoon bookies benefit", it’s one of the best quality handicaps of the whole season. Not only did it produce a fantastic finish but the first four home will all be contesting graded races this year.

There needs to be a proper debate about the amount of jumps being omitted in races as it’s bringing the sport into disrepute. I thought the problem had reached it’s nadir when the world’s most famous race had it’s most famous fence omitted. But then last season we had 2 mile hurdles being run at Ffos Las with only 3 hurdles being jumped in the whole race and a mile long run in. Ridiculous. And I could bring up plenty of other examples.

A few years ago Perth held a schooling session after racing with the plastic hurdles which are now in use at several Irish courses. It was their intention to switch to these if the BHA gave the ok. Does anyone know what happened?

Will there be a drop in admission prices to reflect the reduction to six races at many meetings? Thought not. Less product for the same price.

Mind you, with RUK’s new winter season ticket I shouldn’t complain too much.

Was that the gaff meeting with the £25k sprint or the one with a £16k chase? RUK should be showing all available meetings whilst C4 cover a premier meeting uninterrupted.

If C4 didn’t show any paddock shots then it’s a poor show by them.

As the going has changed today from heavy to soft, heavy in places it doesn’t look like your wish will be granted.

So there we have it. Just 5 weeks into the season and there are no unbeaten teams left.

This is as hard a season to predict as I can remember. Every week is throwing up head scratching results and no side has looked really impressive. In the AFC the Broncos still look the team to beat as they rack up points on offence but the old mantra that offence wins games and defence wins championships is lurking at the back of my mind.

The Chargers are impressing but I still feel they will beat themselves at some point. The Ravens and Bengals may well make the playoffs but don’t look like Super Bowl teams and ditto the Pats, so it may be the Colts who provide the biggest challenge to Denver.

In the NFC Seattle impressed me on Monday night despite the penalties, botched snaps and drops. But it’s so hard to repeat. The Niners haven’t impressed at all but are the sort of side who can make a run at the end of the season. Detroit and Arizona don’t have the winning mentality(or a kicker in the Lions case) I just can’t have Chicago while Cutler’s the QB.

The East is up for grabs but Philly can’t keep relying on special teams and defence while the Giants have overcome a horrendous start and Dallas are moving along quietly.

The Packers look to be hitting their stride and should take the NFC North whilst the South is a close call between the hot and cold Panthers and a Falcons side that can’t win away.

So in summary who will win the big one? How the heck do i know. Ok, at a push, I will say San Fran to beat Denver.

    Innocent until proven guilty?

Yes, there are cheats in racing. Just as there are players match fixing in football and cricket and taking drugs in athletics and cycling.

I didn’t know much about his charitable work but that just adds to the legend. I always enjoyed the chats with Matt Chapman and the winning enclosure antics.

He took the Clive Brittain approach of not being scared to throw his horses in at the deep end and sometimes had an optimistic view of his horses abilities but I always cheered his runners on and the Irish racing world will be poorer without him. RIP.

The problem is that there’s too much AW racing. The greatest thing about British racing is it’s variety with courses from Chester to Newmarket on the flat and Cartmel to cheltenham over jumps. The sand plays a part in that variety but not to the extent that it is now dominating the Calendar and with Newcastle, Catterick and Chelmsford all trying to stage AW fixtures there’s a real danger of racing on these shores turning into the borefest that is American racing.

I am quite looking forward to seeing the AW champs on C4 although as I said earlier Musselburgh should get recognition for putting a really good card on that day as well.

If Musselburgh run their lucrative Good Friday meetIng next year he hopefull C4 will make it a double header.

Shortly after the Irish Champion stakes last night The presenter (Sean wotsisname) stated that he was sure the race would be debated in tomorrow’s Sunday forum.

Technical problems? Someone didn’t turn up?

I would agree that’s it’s what you do in the playoffs that count. You have to get there first though.

Green Bay are a decent bet although i still think the Lions have a real shot at the NFC Central. And Minnesota’s running game could make them competitive. We’ll know more tonight.

I would be happy to see the Seahawks repeat as I love watching that defence.
