Will the weather bail Ascot out ???, the dull drab prospect of Flat champions sloshing through bottomless ground be averted
Lets hope so
Will anyone learn from it ….I doubt it
Champions day in the 3rd week of October just begs for trouble
October 15, 2014 at 19:36 #492419As the going has changed today from heavy to soft, heavy in places it doesn’t look like your wish will be granted.
October 16, 2014 at 04:04 #492437Cud it…..?
Shud it….?
Wud it…..?
Of course it will.October 16, 2014 at 07:39 #492448And now back to heavy after 8mm rain overnight. Interestingly, they haven’t provided an updated going stick report since last Friday. At that time the numbers (6.2 round, 6.9 straight) indicated soft ground and there’s been 50mm+ of rain since Friday.
When the reported number on the round course was 5.2 on May 11th, 2012, Ascot abandoned races scheduled on the round course and divided two straight course races to produce a six race card. Don’t suppose that option will fly this time!
October 16, 2014 at 07:43 #492449And now they have produced an update, with the round course reported as 5.0 at 08.30 Thursday.
At no meeting in the last five years have they raced on ground with such a low reading. The historical data can be seen here:
October 16, 2014 at 08:58 #492457Heavy rain expected at Ascot overnight and showers again on Friday night, if the meeting is run then I expect any decent horse to be a NR and them finishing like 3 mile chasers which will do nothing for the reputation of racing.
October 16, 2014 at 09:02 #492459Anyone want to buy a return rail ticket from Taunton to Ascot?

"Better water just to be sure that it”s safe ground"
Shouldn’t laugh as watering is the one thing that really annoys me but I had to chuckle.
October 16, 2014 at 09:27 #492467It must be firm if Lucky Kristale is still in the running.
Either that or they are fitting her with wellington boot style horse shoes or George Margarson is the new Michael Fish. Here he is below

No more rain forecast.
Alas Rod Street will continue to make money for himself and balls up racing.
October 16, 2014 at 19:53 #492522Having looked at the decs , it’s hardly what you’d call the creme de la creme of 2014 flat racing stars on Saturday.
It doesn’t justify that type of price money and running the meeting when it does it never will.
October 16, 2014 at 21:18 #492533HKJC are expecting to simulcast five races from Ascot, along with three from the Caulfield Cup meeting.
early form guide out:

I hear they are renaming the horse to Kristale.
