I went to the winners enclosure to greet Bryony’s return. She received a great reception.
Around a hundred racegoers waited for fifteen minutes in the rain while the presentation and post race interviews were conducted just so they could cheer Bryony up the steps to the weighing room. She received at least fifteen requests for selfies or autographs and didn’t turn down any of them.
It was also good to see some of the other jocks who were coming out for the next race give her a wee word of congratulations. Patrick Mullins and Harry Skelton were two of them.
I just saw this race on Twitter.
Did the jockeys not know the rules as it appeared all bar two could have pulled their horses up before crossing the finish line?
Or did they decide that their mounts couldn’t take part in the rerun having completed most of a circuit?
Was there a decent crowd Rob?
I have been watching a few of the old Nationals on YouTube this week and I completely agree about Julian Wilson. Hanmer was left with only two fences after Valentines at times.
I also saw a clip of Tommo standing next to Rummy’s grave. He was part of the radio 2 commentary team in 1973 with Michael Seth-Smith and Peter Bromley and says that Peters commentary that day was one of the best he has ever heard. I don’t suppose anyone has a copy of it.
As for now I was a big Simon Holt fan and thought he should have been given the job by ITV but to be fair to Hoiles he has been an admirable replacement. To add to those two I’d go for Stewart Machin, possibly my favourite commentator at present.
It’s a shame. The Go North series is a good initiative and the fields for tomorrow evening are just what was hoped for.
The official going at Musselburgh is soft which amazes me after yesterday. But gives those of you going(I’m working) some hope.
Just seen this.
Gutted. He was going to be placed before pulling up just before the second last. It didn’t look bad but obviously was.
I always cheered this horse on when he ran. He was a standing dish in class 5 chases at Huntingdon. He can only have been a couple of runs away from a well deserved retirement. And the Cornwalls can’t have too many horses.
RIP
Should have been Stefano. A mistype.
Sorry.
Some strong words or some absolute nonsense?
Alex Furey was the commentator, a fairly new addition to the roster.
What was the issue with him Mike?
I only saw the last race which had a cracking finish and Alex became suitably excited which is what you want from the man with the Mike.
The vast majority of all weather meetings through the winter are about media rights and betting turnover and nothing to do with attracting racegoers.
Nick Alexander in his blog last week called Newcastle”the most soulless course in the country” and said the AW track had ruined it.
Only 66.
To win a Gold Cup, Whitbread and Hennessy with three different horses is some achievement for a small stable. Absolutely loved Coneygree.
I’ll be cheering Mr Vango on if he goes for the Whitbread.
RIP
Stainsby Girl is being retired to stud after winning the Listed Mares hurdle at Haydock today.
Here’s hoping she produces a few winners.
Funnily enough Ian the couple who are creating the course have founded a pack of bloodhounds who chase human prey rather than foxes. I’m assuming the humans are volunteers.
It seems the way ahead as hunting is banned in Scotland although there do seem to be loopholes in the law.
What always annoys me is when they only show the leaders going over jumps in the early stages if a race.
And Roman Roy is now a non runner!!
Bryony was down to ride for Chris Gordon in the first but has been replaced by Rex Dingle. I’m assuming he was due to be at Warwick. Gordon is one of the few trainers to make use of her services these days.
I thought jockeys used to ask each other at the start who was going to make the running.
Nonsense from Pinchin.
Wasn’t she one of the female jocks who signed that statement in defence of Dunne?
And while we’re at it can we get rid of bumpers run on all weather tracks.
I thought they were run to allow inexperienced horses to get used to going between the wings of jumps. I haven’t seen any wings at Lingfield or Newcastle.
