Once again – the Cesarewitch remains a German race!
Big Easy’s sire Ransom O’War disappointed at stud, this should be his most important success as a sire.
… Credit the patience of giving the mare time to come back but what ever the problem was and im sure we still dont really know, then it wasnt really showing up at home so much or else why were they running her at all?
Mdm Head said in an interview before the race in the parade-ring that Treve suffers from "kissing spine" and that this year Treve is 150 %, whereas she was 200 % the year before.
After al those rumours concerning Sea The Moon’s well-being after his spectacular Derby-win (did Soumillon stop the horse too harshly after passing the line, is there a chip in STM’s shoulder?), now we have a definite, but very sad news:
http://www.racingpost.com/news/live.sd? … category=0
Nevertheless: STM’s lucky star has come down, unexposed and lightly raced Ivanhowe’s star is rising after all those setbacks of other major Arc-candidates. And what’s about Baltic Baroness (GER-bred, FR-trained) after Sunday’s Vermeille?
Will there be a match between JAP and GER on Arc-sunday on softish ground?
By the way well done on the World Cup

Agreed and thank you very much!

I’ll never forget that evening in April 1972 (the day, when High Top won his 2,000 Gns.), when I as a member of a school-class of 15yo on their 10-days England-journey had the luck to watch a total-outsider GER-team winning at the old Wembley Stadium (QF of European Championship). We had the noise of 100,000 people in the stadium in our ears for weeks.
It was one of the greatest moments of my life. In that night at Wembley it started, what has found a contemporary end at Maracana 42 years later.
He would have had a knighthood in England, if the Germans hadn’t scored that fluky goal in the 1990 semi

… and how many English players missed their penalty-shot in that and some other matches?
… and what happened in that 1966 final: for the 3rd goal the ball didn’t cross the line, while the 4th goal there had been fans on the pitch = 2 goals, that were not correct according to the rules.

In the only tournament of some importance, an English team won, that team was very lucky and had one more player (the referee!) on the pitch.
To make it short: The German team-members of 1966 always said: the English were the better team during that tournament and their WC was deserved.
So it’s useless to argue any more – since 1966 the verdict is obvious and doubtless: GER 4 stars, ENG 1 star in WC, and in European championship-tournaments a similar picture.

Kind regards to Gary Linacker btw.
Congrats from GER to all those who supported or even napped the German team!
You have been much more confident than I was myself after those defeats of Bundesliga-teams Leverkusen, Dortmund and München vs. Real Madrid in this year`s Champions League, after all those injured players at the end of the Bundesliga- and CL-season and that desastrous preparation camp in North-Italy just before the WC-tournament …
Finally, Gary Linacker was right again!
He deserves the "Bundesverdienstkreuz" (that is the German version of
OBE
) or even better a big German culture-prize for contemporary pop-art philosophy …

Will be a pity, if they (GER) can’t do it – when ever, when not now? That 7 – 1 vs. Brazil should be worth a WC of its own, although that team was so helpless.
They played again (after those wins vs. ENG and ARG during the WC 4 years ago) more "Brazilian" than the Brazilians did in their best days. The team is so focussed and determined after those hefty defeats vs. SPA and ITY in recent tournaments – and yesterday’s semifinal ARG vs NED was no revelation.

Wunder gibt es immer wieder …

It’s really working well with German sports at the moment:
Sea The Moon
: best 3yo in Europa, perhaps in the world,

Tour de France
: Kittel wins 3 of 4 stages so far,

WC at Brazil
: a German team showed some wildly-haired, vastly astonished Brazilian boys
how to play a game called Soccer."
Walk on through the wind, walk on …
"

… I don’t think that was a great field though. … but to see a horse as 4/1 Fav in a place for The Arc De Triomphe on the back of a German Derby win looks suicidal to my eyes.
Well, Lucky Lion can’t be a bad horse according to his previous performances and the stamina-doubts on him before the Derby. And then there is that 11-lengtht-victory in a mere canter after leading the race from the start and crossing the course the straight to the line. Even the time of the races is not bad under thess cercumstances.
That looks like a performance close to those of Australia. Let’s see, what the handicapper says this afternoon …
Of course, 4/1 for the Arc is rather shortpriced concidering that Damedream was around 25/1 on the day of that race.
Soumillon said just after the race: "
This is a horse well suited to even the most important French races
".
P.S. at 01:20 pm:
The handicapper gives STM a rating of 101,5 kg GAG = 123 lbs OR. This is the same rating as Australia got.https://www.racebets.com/de/pferdewette … ernal/4534
http://www.german-racing.com/mediathek/
That is quite impressive and certainly better than what Danedream, Pastorius or Novellist did during the same period of their 3yo-career.
Hopes are rising …. it was just the 4th race – and win – of STM.
Well, that would end a losing run for famous Röttgen Stud in the German Derby beginning after its Uomo won in 1959!
IMO a filly among the first 3 in the Derby is most often an indication of a sub-standard generation.
So the late entries prevent horses already entered from running if they have a higher rating? Seems unfair.
Since those rules had been introduced in 1979 the winner with the highest No. was 17 (Laroche). But there has been a 2nd placed with No. 20 and a 3rd placed with No. 19 aswell in that period.
Well, which version of elimination-rules is "fair"?
Those horses eliminated will get back their last stake (1,750 €) and the horses supplemented have to pay stakes of 10 % of the total prize-money = 65,000 € instead of 7,500 €.
In some 145 renewals there has never ever been a German Derby-winner who hadn’t won at least a single race before the Derby and I can’t remember a winner with an official rating below 106 (BHB) in at least recent 20 years.
The German Derby always has difficulties to keep its "G1"-level in International competition. So it’s good for the race to have entries with proven high ratings – thus horses from abroad are welcomed.

We are going to leave the thread-theme, but:
It’s Gino
was betrayed in the Arc! He was 3rd indeed in Zarkava’s Arc and the photo showed him in front of Soldier of Fortune, but the Longchamp-Stewards called it a dead-heat:
Sorry, I don’t know her personally. But
It’s Gino
, an unlucky Arc-third, is the revelation of sires in GER this season. What will he do with better-quality-mares?
Thank you very much! I’ll try to find this book.
