    AGONZALO HIGUIAN 22/1 TOP SCORER

Had a great season in naples and scores as many goals for national team than Messi played 3 fewer games in group stages one goal behind Messi.

Followed you in at 20/1 Darren.

I wouldn’t give up on Spain. Holland manager probably got inside the head of a lot of the Spanish players and knew how to get his team to beat them. Won’t know the other teams so well. Mind you, can’t wait to see the next Netherlands game!Have picked England to win tonight in my competition hoping they can surprise people a bit.

A poor start for England. After the Costa Rica surprise they had a great chance to put themselves in pole position. No doubt the cheerleaders will be out in force trying to drum up optimism but I wouldn’t be in any hurry to take the 10/11 that they will still qualify. The Italians have been cut in the outright market but I doubt they will have anywhere near enough ability to make a serious impact in the knockout stages.

Switzerland vs Ecuador 1st scorer Josip Drmic 6/1

Had a wonderfull season in Germany in Nurenburg and could be a suprise package in this world cup.

France vs Honduras. Paul Pogba 1st scorer 9/1

This rampaging midfielder for Juventus is one of the best in world and can become one of the best in the world once this world cup ends.

Argentina vs Bosina.Angel Di Maria 11/1

Best player in champions league final can make a impact like that in this world cup.His late runs into box can give him the 1st goal here.

Were Costa Rica any use against Italy ? They’re 7/2 to beat an England side that will be trying new faces.

Divers such as Arjen Robben should never be given a free kick of any sort in their team’s favour. Absolutely sickening. Mexico’s manager is absolutely right.

Indeed, what possible excuse can there be for using officials, particularly the referee, from the geographical region of one of the teams?

International-football administrators make the administrators of American pro boxing seem like angels of light. Alas, all sports at the highest levels seem infected by the cynicism of high-power business types. I expect most of them are lawyers.

There is something about sports that seems a little bit spiritual, particularly team sports, so rank injustice in world competitions is just vile.

What I was getting it above, was expressed perfectly by the Pope when he described sports, especially team-sports as a metaphor for life, demanding the same strong character traits, etc.

The greatest football talent on earth never dives – because he doesn’t wan’t to, and more importantly, because he doesn’t need to.
That’s just one of the many attributes that sets the mercurial Lionel Messi out from the rest. A little guy who plays the game in a manner that is totally refreshing and quite often, spectacular. An innocent among cynics.

Ronaldo, Suarez and Neymar should never be considered or mentioned in the same league as the little Argentinian genius.

This is has been a good World Cup – particularly the emergence of another up and coming world superstar, namely James Rodriguez, the young Columbian striker who has been a breath of fresh air. We’ll be hearing a lot more about him, that’s for sure.

As for the punditry : Robbie Savage and Phil Neville talk the biggest load of coswallop ever. At least Fabio Cannavaro and Thierry Henry have an excuse – although, to be fair, listening to Cannavaro’s strained pidgin English was toe-curling. Why was he hired, I ask. Because he is a world cup winner :? Come on !

Best unintentional quote came from the monotonous Phil Neville while commenting on the "magic foam" used by referees at free kicks.

Neville said : there’s the ref marking out his imaginary line.

News for you, Philip. Something which can clearly be seen by players, spectators, and the vast viewing public is most definitely NOT imaginary.

If only Mr. Neville was imaginary.

Nessi has such magical skills he has no right to be on this planet.

He’s like Secretariat, running in a different race from the also-rans in the Belmont, and the Golden Baar, when Ben Hogan wrily remarked, ‘He plays a game with which I’m not familiar.’

Yes, Rodriguez looks like another genius, doesn’t he? But I also marvel at the skill of Eden Hazard. How he back-heeled an inch-perfect pass to another forward running full pelt a good few yards behind him just took my breath away.

The vision these guys have, to take in the positions and movements of the other players through 360 degrees!

I think I’ll be giving the Wexford races a miss this evening with the two matches on. Would love to see Colombia beat Brazil. On form they should be favorites but Brazil are Brazil and beating them on their home turf won’t be easy. Hopefully another big performance from James will see the Colombians through.

Don’t really mind who wins the first match. Varane looks a serious talent for France and if he can keep the shackles on Muller then I’d just about give France the edge.

Really put the kybosh on Varane, who Hummels got the better of the score Germany’s goal. A joke refereeing display didn’t help the second match.

It’s really working well with German sports at the moment:

    Sea The Moon

: best 3yo in Europa, perhaps in the world, :)

    Tour de France

: Kittel wins 3 of 4 stages so far, 8)

    WC at Brazil

: a German team showed some wildly-haired, vastly astonished Brazilian boys :? :o how to play a game called Soccer.

Will be a pity, if they (GER) can’t do it – when ever, when not now? That 7 – 1 vs. Brazil should be worth a WC of its own, although that team was so helpless.

They played again (after those wins vs. ENG and ARG during the WC 4 years ago) more "Brazilian" than the Brazilians did in their best days. The team is so focussed and determined after those hefty defeats vs. SPA and ITY in recent tournaments – and yesterday’s semifinal ARG vs NED was no revelation.

Even England would have beaten Brazil on the night…or perhaps not :?

I’ve found it all very disappointing I’m afraid, although I don’t know enough about football to say if the football was good or bad. I certainly didn’t find it entertaining [although I have enjoyed watching Holland..till last night].
