After having a good look at the card, the two I like best are Jukebox Jury in the Sheema and Crowded House in the World Cup, both hopefully improving and each way chances for yards that have won on the night in the past (admittedly with better chances).

Is there never any "dross" on the turf or even over jumps with very low grade horses running for peanuts where the occasional big price winner springs up from nowhere? Why do people who don’t like all weather racing feel the need to beat it at any opportunity?

I’d possibly be proven wrong but I think if they were to hold a ‘veterans race’ at Cheltenham in 2011, it would be an Our Vic victory parade were he to take part.

Maybe that’s why I’m keen on the idea!

To be honest, I don’t think Our Vic owes anybody anything and if he was retired today I think it would be richly deserved. While I have be critical in the past of those who slam the constant running of older horses, I think he has been totally overdone himself the last few months or so and my tune has changed a little.

Irrespective of their strange wardrobes, Tan, Alice, Lesley and Emma et al are like the Oracles of Delphi in comparison to the vacuous presenters of The Loose Women Show.

We don’t know how lucky we are at times in racing.

But shouldn’t they be compared to other racing or sports presenter rather than presenters of a show that caters for an entirely different audience? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those men who complain about them just because they’re women and quite frankly don’t mind any of them too much apart from Plunkett who I just can’t stand.

Obviously he can, but I don’t see him doing so. I wouldn’t get too carried away by his Gold Cup third. A great achievement undoubtably, but he stayed on past tired and non staying beaten horses who actually raced to win. He’s had a good season and will run well, but he wouldn’t be my choice as the winner.
As for Treadwell not keeping the ride, its not surprising really, it was a chance spare for him last year and had Nick Gifford had a horse in either race, he’d have been on that.

I’ve not seen the photo of Kirby but certainly welcomed the sight of Mrs Spencer this morning. I must admit though, I’m not sure Channel 4 need to give additional advertising time to Dubai on top of the ones before and after each ad break etc. More worryingly, what was up with Michael Dickenson’s right arm, it just could seem to want to stay still during his brief chat with Simon Holt.

    That’s racing unfortunately.

Sorry but I completely refute this. Racing is about giving all horses and equal chance under the conditions to run to the best of their abilities. What happened with Nevertika meant that horse was never allowed to do so. Owls FC was withdrawn as it turned out so at least no-one lost money on the horse, but it was poor PR that it wasn’t clear until after the race that the horse was withdrawn. There should be a procedure in place where any horses that are withdrawn at the start, such information should be made available to the public via the PA system beforehand.

I was referring to Owls FC not Nevertika. I agree horses who bolt should never be allowed to run. But in jumps races, sometimes you get unlucky and your horses misses it, the jockey is napping or one or two are allowed to steal a few lengths at the start.

At the price I couldn’t even look at the favourite although I respect the trainer and think he’s got the best jock on him too. I quite like Prime Exhibit and will have a couple of quid on Doctor Crane too.

Why do we now have flat courses watering to maintain good to soft ground? I’m not saying we go back to the days of racing on hard ground but at worst it would have been good maybe good to firm in places, but with the rain the north west had last night, if some of that crossed the hills then they could easily have genuine soft patches.

Nearly a week since I emailed them; still no reply.

To be fair, that’s not like them. Every time I have sent an email Tanya or at least someone using her account has replied pretty quickly, certainly that week and once or twice my emails have been forwarded and the recipiant got back to me including from the BHA. I guess they’ve had lots of similar complaints and are still wading through them

I don’t mind the 4 day Festival or the new races, but I’m not sure we need a Veterans race. We’ve already seen the likes of Monet’s Garden and Our Vic take on and beat the younger brigade, so I don’t see why they need their own race. But I guess you could say that about mares.

That’s racing unfortunately. It’s not great if its you, but there but for the grace etc etc. But some starters do have a lot to answer for.

I’m not sure the guy should be warned off, or at least not for any lengthy amount of time, but he should be fined and lose some owners priviledges for a few months. But it was the heat of the moment and he lost it. Not great admittedly, but hardly totally unforgivable.

I sometimes wonder about official going reports though. How many times do you see it reported as good or good to soft and they are clearly going in very deep or kicking up tonnes?
Clearly Denman is better with cut and Kauto probably better suited to good, especially over an extended trip like the Gold Cup, but of the two, Kauto is the more versatile. Also because Denman is the heavier horse, he probably doesn’t let himself down as much on firmer going, it will be interesting if he runs at either Aintree, or even more bizarrely but still suggested by the trainer, Punchestown.

I think their overall standards have quickly slipped and the show is a shadow of what it was. I appreciate they have to appeal to a wider audiaance than just racing fans and punters, but have dumbed down too much at the expence of the actual racing chat/content.
I thought the Cheltenham coverage more resembled a daytime magazine type programme, especially with the whole dual presentation of Down and Plunkett saying alternate lines a la Richard and judy.

Credit to Nick Williams and his team for getting her almost back to her best this season. She’s probably been as consistent this year as she’s ever been.
As for Trabolgan, he broke my heart when he won his Sun Allaince as I was on Comply or Die big time. And he never got near the credit for his Hennessy win that he deserved.

Let’s hope they are better than my favourite filly Bosra Sham’s offspring who never ammounted to anything.
