With heavy rain forecast, is this a joke or what? The game’s already going to the dogs but come on BHA get up off your ass and get something done for a change.

I’m no fan of watering, but Doncaster have a pretty good record when it comes to providing a decent racing surface, and I’m sure they know what they’re doing in this case.
A fiver says it rides no worse than g/s for the Lincoln,EC?March 25, 2010 at 08:52 #285466Why do they have to maintain good to soft ground its only a 2day meeting its hardly likely to be firming up at this time of year.
March 25, 2010 at 09:22 #285469I couldn’t believe the interview with the CoC. Why does he feel it is his job to engineer good-soft ground for a flat meeting?
March 25, 2010 at 09:33 #285471Where does it say they are watering? BHA site says the ground is now soft, good to soft in places after 6mm of overnight rain.
March 25, 2010 at 09:44 #285473"The going for the opening day of the Flat turf season at Doncaster on Saturday was unchanged at good to soft by clerk of the course David Williams on Wednesday.
Williams said: "We had 2mm of rain overnight on Tuesday, going into Wednesday morning, which was forecast but we’ve had a dry and breezy day today. I’ve just put a bit of water on to maintain the ground."

March 26, 2010 at 11:11 #285675Why do we now have flat courses watering to maintain good to soft ground? I’m not saying we go back to the days of racing on hard ground but at worst it would have been good maybe good to firm in places, but with the rain the north west had last night, if some of that crossed the hills then they could easily have genuine soft patches.

Clerk’s report for Wednesday was expecting rain on Thursday and Friday. Most of course now Soft. He denies any watering since last St Leger meeting. Was this RP searching through the archives for something "new" to say, even if it made no sense to a 3 year old and referred to watering sometime in 2009 or earlier?

A bit like Cheltenham moving the final flight 70 yds to avoid whip bans but that actually happened, I think
March 26, 2010 at 16:24 #285738Grass is robust.
That is why it is so successful.
Doesn’t need this constant watering.
Will make it weak.
