Thought it was made clear on the TV ,that the horse ran ,after having bolted, because the owners wanted it to,having travelled a long way to watch him.If there is to be an abritrary decision to take him out ,to save the punters, then someone like the stewards should make it.
March 25, 2010 at 10:40 #285480Hugh Taylor’s tips still get supported regardless – two at Exeter on Monday (Osokenda, Bernard), Herbert Crescent at Kempton last night, and now Dinner Date at Kempton tonight who is 5/1 already from 7/1 first thing this morning.
March 26, 2010 at 11:29 #285681That’s racing unfortunately.
Sorry but I completely refute this. Racing is about giving all horses and equal chance under the conditions to run to the best of their abilities. What happened with Nevertika meant that horse was never allowed to do so. Owls FC was withdrawn as it turned out so at least no-one lost money on the horse, but it was poor PR that it wasn’t clear until after the race that the horse was withdrawn. There should be a procedure in place where any horses that are withdrawn at the start, such information should be made available to the public via the PA system beforehand.
I was referring to Owls FC not Nevertika. I agree horses who bolt should never be allowed to run. But in jumps races, sometimes you get unlucky and your horses misses it, the jockey is napping or one or two are allowed to steal a few lengths at the start.

Paul Struthers stated that would always happen now, it’s always done in Ireland even if they have to butt into Dessie’s commentary at the beginning.
If, as it looked, the jockey of Owls FC disobeyed the starter why wasn’t he penalised? - AuthorPosts
