    Man Utd squad for game against Boro;

Kuszczak, Amos, Neville, Brown, R Da Silva, O’Shea, Evans, Gray, Chester, Eckersley, Hargreaves, Ronaldo, Anderson, Nani, Gibson, Hewson, Possebon, Cleverley, Welbeck, Manucho.

It doesn’t look that strong to me. Yes they could field a strong looking midfield in Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani but they won’t play 90 minutes and the rest of the team looks far weaker than what Ferguson hinted he was going to play.

I’m more than happy with the 6.6 and I’ve even backed Boro/Boro in the half-time/full-time market at 13.5. Win or lose, I think Middlesbrough are over-priced here.

Probably because they saw him as a threat Crizzy. They’ve done it to Monty countless times and unfortunately it’s something you now expect when playing in America.

Not sure what type of things they said but Lee looked quite upset about it and to say it was shameful must mean they said some dispicable things to him.

I was quite shocked to see the footage of Azinger in down town Louiseville telling the people to cheer when Europe missed a putt. Was this footage shown before the Ryder Cup started? I certainly never seen it. He looked as though he’d had a few beers, got on stage, took the mike and told the crowd to cheer when the Americans hole a putt and to cheer when Europe missed a putt – that in itself was quite shameful in my opinion.

As I thought, it looks like Sir Alex is going to give some ‘lesser’ known players a chance tomorrow.

Some youngster by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo is in the squad, whilst Sir Alex looks like he will be having a look at unknown players like Tevez, Giggs, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Vidic to assess how good they can be.

 I’ll get my coat

Agree with the above David except in Westwood’s case.

He looked up for the fight until being dropped on Saturday morning – from that moment on he looked deflated. He had two magnificent comebacks on Friday to snatch two halve points and by all accounts was raring to go on Saturday morning.

When he was ‘benched’ on Saturday it’s reported that he was far from happy with Faldo and some strong words were said. From that moment on his body language suggested he didn’t want to be there. Yes you can blame him for taking that attitude, but should Faldo have reigned him back when he was raring to go?

Europe’s ‘big three’ golfers have always been regarded as Monty, Clarke and Westwood and yet on Saturday morning (for the first time in around 20 years) neither of them were involved in a fourballs/foursomes – and Garcia wasn’t there either.

Regarding Harrington then he has to be a major worry. This is two Ryder Cups in a row now that he hasn’t performed. He is a tremendous golfer and very much a single-minded one. He focuses immensely on the big tournaments during the summer and you can’t help but feel that he is mentally worn out come September/October.

I have no worries about Garcia. He has a fantastic Ryder Cup record and is as passionate as anyone, but his game just wasn’t there this weekend. He will be back. Jiminez seems to me to be a tournament player rather than a match-play player.

All in all the picture isn’t anywhere near as bad as is being painted by the media this morning. We won three cups in a row and narrowly failed to make that four despite some players under performing and arguably one of our better players (Luke Donald) being absent through injury.

European golf is in a fantastic state at present and come 2010 our squad will be brimming with talent. Garcia, Westwood, Harrington (if he get his head right), Poulter, Donald, Casey, Rose etc will all be around, while players like Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher, Oliver Wilson, Oliver Fisher, Rory Mcilroy, Francesco Molinari and Nick Dougherty will have taken their game up a notch. Add to that, players like Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson then there’s 16 players you wouldn’t mind having on your side without me even going deep into the memory bank.

If I had the patience (and I don’t) to wait two years for a bet to be landed then I wouldn’t be against backing Europe now to win in 2010 – though there isn’t much point considering their price will be roughly the same when it starts :D

Yes it was unbelievable golf at times. The Poulter/McDowell pairing shot eight birdies in the last twelve holes and only went from being level to winning one up such was the standard by Furyk (mostly) and Perry.

Then there was Robert Karlsson firing in birdies all over the place to secure a half point in his match – brilliant golf.

Faldo’s selections yesterday were questioned by many, including myself and some very knowledgable guys in the media, but Europe won the day and closed the gap narrowly on the Americans – you can’t ask more than that. As you rightly say, Poulter has been outstanding.

It’s going to be a cracker today, though again Faldo’s ‘tactics’ will be questioned putting his best men out last when it’s possible that American will win enough points early. I hope for his and Europe’s sake it works out well. I will be the first to acknowledge a (what would be) tremendous achievement if it does.

Thanks for all the kind words.
One tip for any that follow me: Do not emulate me by mentioning the ex-girlfriend and failing to mention the wife- on rations for a month :(

 You never – what were you thinking Carvills? (so much better than Denis :D )

As everyone has already said, it was a gread read and congratulations on your first tip. Hope it leads to bigger and better things.

And don’t worry about the wife, she will forgive you in time – probably around Christmas and her birthday if my past experiences are anything to go by :D

I’m not quite so sure it’s a good thing for the Premiership Insomniac. If the Abu Dhabi United Group stick around then it won’t be a case of who breaks into the big four, it will be a simple case of a big five being created (of course, one will miss out on the Champions League every season).

It will effectively mean that 15 Premiership clubs are scrapping for 6th place in the league – one European qualifying slot perhaps.

My only concern for football and Man City is will this group stick around? Yes the same concerns were aimed at Chelsea when Roman took over, but you can see that he is a football nut and is passionate about it. How much does the Abu Dhabi Group know about football, how passionate are they, what is their real agenda etc?

Man City have now got money and good luck to them, but I’m already fearing for their long term future. Last weekend, Man City had four academy products in their team in the win against Sunderland (Wright-Phillips, Ireland, Johnson & Richards) but it has already been said by staff at Eastlands that some very promising youth players may never make the step up to the first team now.

How on earth can a promising 18-year-old striker get a chance when Robinho and his £50m strike partner (whoever it may be) are in the team?

If these new investors stick around then Man City will be fine but fewer kids will get a chance. If the new investors leave after a few years then City will be in a right mess (and could end up like Leeds). I’m not sure I like the thought of either scenario.

For the record, my mate went to the bookies yesterday tea-time as all the reports were that Keegan had been sacked, and they paid him out. :?

Wow, tell him well done, I’m amazed at that. Mind, I should never be amazed as I think I read somewhere that one bookie paid out on Stoke being relegated after their opening game of the season

You won’t get paid now I don’t think as Alan Curbishley has officially left West Ham.

The key word being officially, as this surely means that even if Keegan was sacked or resigned yesterday, it was never confirmed and bookies will only pay out on facts (official notification) rather than rumours or speculation.

Anyone backing Keegan can feel a little hard done by, especially if it concludes with him never stepping in St James Park again.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion even if it’s uneducated laced with sour grapes.

What are you talking about Fist? Did you even see the race in question yesterday?

About three months ago I took the decision to seriously reduce the amount of money I spent/gambled on horse racing – the reason being that I was sick to death of being frustrated at rides given by jockeys.

If I’d have backed that 2/5 shot yesterday, I would have been more than frustrated with the ride it was given by Spencer. He quite simply misjudged the situation and thought that he could just coax the horse home.

If he’d have won by a nose he would be being called a genius now for not giving the horse a hard race yet still winning. By the same token, he has to accept the criticism that comes his way when he gets it wrong. He got beat a whisker on an extremely backed horse when just a little more effort in the saddle would have won the race half a length.

I don’t like his riding style at all – it stinks of arrogance and cockiness. Give me a Seb Sanders or a Neil Callan any day of the week.

Terrible news. Heartfelt sympathy to Tim Corby’s family. What a tragic loss.

I’m fairly sure Tim was involved in the Katchit syndicate, one of whom post on here.

I echo the sentiments already expressed on this thread. Mr Corby was indeed the agent that purchased Katchit – I believe for around 15,000.

Tragic loss and terrible news. I hope Mick and his son have a speedy recovery and that the mental scars are not too long in the mind.

    It’s the ‘Panel’ Corm.

The only award that gets voted for by the public is the main award, all other awards are decided by the panel (whoever they are).

    Well done Cav.

    China – 100 medals
    USA – 110 medals

That’s bet landed I reckon – you did back ‘overall medals’ didn’t you and not just ‘most golds’?

As much as I love horse racing, and especially this meeting (as I go every year), I had written all chance of this meeting going ahead as early as last Saturday – the weather forecast for the area was dreadful.

It wasn’t just the turf that was the problem, it was the public walk areas, which from what national and regional news showed, were almost waterlogged.

Of course, they had to give the meeting the best chance of going ahead, and make a decision as late as possible, but it was pretty obvious it would all be abandoned unfortunately.

Lost today, tomorrow doesn’t sound too hopeful either.

Is this natures way of indicating that it she has no "appetite" for a four day Ebor meeting?

    Chris

So it probably didn’t even take them five minutes to make the decision. From pictures I’ve seen on tv, reports on here, the weather forecast in the area etc, they’ve absolutely made the correct decision.

The rain is set to continue all day up here. It’s a little better tomorrow but the rain returns on Thursday and Friday. I think it’s safe to say that this meeting will be lost (all week) unfortunately.
