I could get this completely wrong but I think the 6.6 about Boro is ‘free money’ in terms of laying it off for a profit once the United squad is announced.
Boro will be fielding a full strength team (injuries permitting) tomorrow and have looked a decent footballing side, despite conceding late goals in every game they’ve played.
I’ve took the 6.6 with the assumption that 48 hours after the Chelsea game, United will name a reserve squad (or perhaps something weaker) for this Carling Cup match. United rarely take this competition serious these days and lost at home to Coventry last season having fielded a very young team. If they field a young/reserve team this time I can see Boro’s price coming into 4 or even less, therefore allowing me to trade off for a profit before the game even starts.
Have I got this right or not?

September 22, 2008 at 13:16 #181942Good shout there Mikky I reckon – I’d just take the 6/1 available with Bet365 and try to ride it out.
Even if Utd fielded a full side, 6/1 is crazy odds for another Premiership team, especially one which tends to raise their game against the big 4.
September 22, 2008 at 13:35 #181949Don’t disagree with you on the value aspect, but United’s Second XI is still mightily strong.
They have some terrific young players on the way up and bolstered with other fringe players they would be more than a match for most Prem. teams.
I assume that they will play Tom Heaton in goal.
He’s the best keeper United have at the moment. Foster is always injured, Kusczak is mediocre and Van der Sar is well past his sell-by.September 22, 2008 at 18:07 #181974As I thought, it looks like Sir Alex is going to give some ‘lesser’ known players a chance tomorrow.
Some youngster by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo is in the squad, whilst Sir Alex looks like he will be having a look at unknown players like Tevez, Giggs, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Vidic to assess how good they can be.
I’ll get my coat

September 22, 2008 at 19:27 #181987IA good spot Mikky – hadn’t even looked at this weeks league Cup fixtures.
I agree with DavidB that M’boro are overpriced at 6’s; they’re capable getting a result in a "proper" game, and even if United do field some big names, are they really going to be 100% up for it?September 23, 2008 at 08:46 #182033Man Utd squad for game against Boro;
Kuszczak, Amos, Neville, Brown, R Da Silva, O’Shea, Evans, Gray, Chester, Eckersley, Hargreaves, Ronaldo, Anderson, Nani, Gibson, Hewson, Possebon, Cleverley, Welbeck, Manucho.
It doesn’t look that strong to me. Yes they could field a strong looking midfield in Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani but they won’t play 90 minutes and the rest of the team looks far weaker than what Ferguson hinted he was going to play.
I’m more than happy with the 6.6 and I’ve even backed Boro/Boro in the half-time/full-time market at 13.5. Win or lose, I think Middlesbrough are over-priced here.

Good luck with it.
I’m a City fan but like to keep an eye on The Red Rags and have been very impressed with what I’ve seen from Da Silva (one of talented twins), Possebon and Wellbeck. The Angolan Manucho is also supposed to be a star in the making.
We’ll see tonight.
