A richly deserved win for a horse who has been openly campaigned giving 15 lbs to one who has only started running properly since the weights were published.
Has also done us a favour by putting an end to the tiresome stats saying greys and French breds don`t win. Don`t think Nicholas Silver will be referred to much anymore.Very well said – sick of O’Neill playing this card; don’t know how he gets away with it.
Very, very good read indeed and thorough

One i would like to add to my 2 is
Others I have backed are:
I will also have a small EW on Deep Purple who is classy enough for this but on breeding shouldn’t stay 2 1/2 let alone 4 1/2!!Be lucky all who have a bet and let’s hope they ALL come home safe and sound tomorrow

Agreed GDC, if there is a 100/1+ horse in the field it is surely Midnight Haze. At well over 200/1 on betfair he’s a must bet for me.
Thirded, think Midnight Haze underrated. Have him with main bet Chicago Grey and According to Pete.
Barney Curley in a tweed skirt.
Bold Sir Brian N/R. Bugger.
Probably tells you something about the success of the watering operation.
Very surprised at the lack of comment about Son of Flicka; maybe everyone’s looking forward rather than back.
Now I like McCain; his horses generally seem to be trying and to run their races, but this fellow’s four runs this season just stink to me.
Barney Curley couldn’t have done a better job and the lack of an enquiry or reference makes me wonder what the stewards are there for.
Have a nasty feeling that Third Intention will be Pricewise pick. Knocking EW bet
Gold Cup day 2011. From the early start on the gallops, getting to see Hurricane Fly led out for a pick of grass, to almost turning myself inside out screaming them home in the Gold Cup. Much as I love both horses, my heart really wanted Denman to beat Long Run, and the reception The Tank got on his return made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Wandering over to the testing boxes afterwards to see both horses, and missing the next race(s).
I’m so glad I made the most of what’s turned out to be my last chance to see Denman on a racecourse.
Ok, a bit long to be a moment… so there was a moment when Denman outjumped Kauto and I thought the race was his, and could happily have died right then.
My own thoughts exactly; well expressed
Jeez, what a spot that was. Hope you got on
Haven’t seen this before ? Minella Stars sent off at that price today at Newbury
Utterly horrible

No, nobody questioned the ride at the time and funnily enough in a poll of Lesters greatest rides
The Minstrels
Derby victory came 2nd only to
Sir Ivors
Derby win with
Royal Academy
in 3rd. Now for a horse so ‘Gruesomely’ ridden ‘Mighty M’,you would think he would have been scarred from it but again No!,he only went on to win the Irish Derby and The King George! He was an incredible horse who responded to Lesters urgings with the heart of a Lion, but hey that was REAL racing for REAL race fans, not for you faint hearted wimps!

How do you know, did you interview everyone interested in racing? You mean nobody with a public platform criticised it and that is true, but that, and the fact that the horse ran well afterwards, don’t together mean that Piggott didn’t flog the horse mercilessly, because he did. Saying that is not being a wimp, it’s having a germ of humanity
KF – As Pompete pointed out some time back several of us on TRF have been campaigning against what we would argue was excesssive whip usage for
years
.
You think you have the rights on reality KF?
Can I tell you what is REAL KF. The rules are REAL. Change and progress is REAL. Uncomfortable, yes, like all change, but REAL.Where were you 10 yrs ago when
Omerta
won the Irish national? I never heard you and your merry men slating Lesters Derby victory on
The Minstrel
. Was it acceptable in your eyes for these horses to be ridden so vigourously then? Of course it was,Why? Because nobody for one minute thought the horse was being abused and guess what it wasn’t.You lot are jumping on a bandwagon lead by spineless leaders of an organisation (BHA) who are ultimately guided by a Nanny state who in years to come will be the death of National Hunt racing on safety grounds and you are supporting it at the first instance,of course you all realise that being REAL racing fans moving with the times eh?

I think you’ll find a fair few who thought The Minstrel was abused, whatever the rules at the time. Gruesome exhibition from Piggott.
The thing that I’ve noticed recently is the trend for more than one horse in a race to shorten dramatically near the off, without any degree of balancing drifting by others.
Overturn 7-2 to 7-4 was one, but the one that really got me was in Chance Du Roy’s race – Fistral Beach was 100-30 from 5s, while Osric went from 8s to 7-2!!!
The 3rd fav was well supported too, yet the longer priced horses barely moved. Seemed very strange.
Dunguib out for season.
Not sure of Kauto Star, not heard anything for a while.
With that name, I doubt you’d have seen him, either

That must have been fun; well done
Well I was right!(not too often that happens) I said whoever gets to the rail first will win and he did.
With respect, you’ve only proved 50% of your theory.
You need a pretty vivid imagination to assume it would have been true the other way round…!!!
The picture does look bent to me, I am a dab hand at Photoshop and if I had called a monumental wrong result then I could easily manipulate the photo in 5 minutes tops.
I said the same to Elvis and Lord Lucan in the pub last night
That’s Alan Potts who posts on here as APRacing MM.
Suspected as much, thanks for clarification
